CONGRESSMAN ELABORATES ON HIS DECISION …
|| By FITSNEWS || This website applauded U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan‘s courageous decision to vote against fiscally liberal U.S. Speaker John Boehner this week. And with good reason.
“Duncan has taken a principled stand against chronic (GOP) equivocation – and in doing so has thrown down the gauntlet for the rest of the South Carolina delegation,” we wrote.
Unfortunately the rest of the South Carolina delegation – which is supposed to be the most “conservative” delegation in Washington, D.C. – didn’t pick up the gauntlet. As a result of that (and some pay-to-play hypocrisy across the river in Georgia), Boehner was reelected.
Even typically reliable pro-free market lawmakers Mick Mulvaney and Mark Sanford punked out on this gut-check vote … (read their excuses HERE and HERE).
Anyway … of interest as it relates to Duncan’s vote? Some comments he made in an interview with Roll Call – an insider publication widely read on Capitol Hill.
“We polled (the Boehner vote),” Duncan told CQ Roll Call on Wednesday. “We talked to a lot of folks during the Christmas break. And I just felt like it was a new beginning, thought we needed a new direction.”
Polled? Interesting ….
Duncan added that he informed Boehner beforehand of his intention to vote against him – and was not pressured to change his decision.
“That’s not the kind of guy John Boehner is,” Duncan told the publication. “He’s an honorable man. He’s served the country well. He’s been a great speaker under usual circumstances where we only had the House.”
Um … really?
Boehner is an over-tanned, over-served special interest sellout … not an honorable man. He’s been an awful Speaker who has served the country terribly. But that’s not just us kooky libertarian leaners talking … the vast majority of “Republican” voters are also done with him.
“We’ve never had much use for Boehner, who has been utterly worthless except in two areas: Capitulating … and getting drunk,” we wrote last week. “Seriously. Name the issue … and Boehner has caved on it. Embarrassingly so.”

… other members made Boehner aware of their intention to vote against him, and pleaded with the speaker to understand the political pressure they were under in their overwhelmingly red districts.
Exactly what was said or promised between Boehner and these members isn’t clear, but many members said they faced immense pressure from constituents to vote for someone else …

Washington, D.C. is truly a town of cowards, isn’t it?
Even some of those who voted the right way apparently did so from their knees …
UPDATE: FITS just heard from Duncan’s office. According to his spokesman, “‘polled’ was not a political poll commissioned by us or anyone else. It was based on conversations, phone calls, and emails from constituents.” We also heard from Duncan directly, who reiterated that point.

“Do nothing Duncan” is on six subcommittees. Someone has to take up space on the rostrum. He’s not on any major subcommittees so he may have been below Boehner’s radar.
He’s been the chairman of several different subcommittees and sits on 3 major committees. I think you should check your facts.
Nothing new here, this was all fought out shortly after the polls closed on November. There’ll be pork galore coming down the tracks for South Carolinians and everybody in our delegation but Duncan will get to take credit for some of it.
What will stop this BS is when we as a state electorate say “…screw your pork…cut our taxes, reign in spending and stop passing laws that do nothing but make life more complicated…” and of course, that will never happen.

Most kids today have no concept of “reining in” or giving a horse “free rein”, which is why the misuse is so prevalent. You (like TBG), are too “long in the tooth” to have that as an excuse.

None of that is accurate. Not even the prices.
Please FITS stop with all the Boehner stuff. The House Speaker election was never a contest. There was no chance Boehner would be defeated, which is why the majority of the SC delegation voted for him. It was political theater, nothing more, nothing less…and you fell for it. As for Duncan, he is a complete nonfactor in Washington. Grandstanding over the Speaker election is about the only way the leadership or the media will pay any attention to him.
Grandstanding — along with posturing and posing — seems to be what passes for courage in politics now days. Leadership requires hard work, engagement, persuasion, and (sometimes) making a deal.
It’s a good thing Duncan doesn’t give two shits what the media thinks about him, and does what he’s supposed to do: serve. Wish my congressman was like him.

Sanford missed his shot to not only appear the conscientious father, but appease his constituency in light of the poor odds of beating Boehner. All he had to say was: “I kissed ass to provide for my kids.” Feeble, I know, but all these fu@kwit politicians are coming off as spineless do-nothing wimps no matter how they voted. Are they trying to build low-expectations?
