Interesting that Boehner considers Duncan not worth the time to punish for his vote.
Exactly. “Back-bencher” is spelled Jeff Duncan.
“When firebrand Rep. Justin Amash (R., Mich.) rose during the roll call to cast his vote for Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), a fellow hard-liner, a wave of laughter washed across the Republican side.
There were more titters when Rep. David Brat (R., Va.), the upstart who defeated Eric Cantor in last year’s primary, cast his speaker vote for Rep. Jeff Duncan (R., S.C.), a backbencher of little distinction. And guffaws could be heard in the gallery when Rep. Curt Clawson (R., Fla.) cast his vote for Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.”

My bad.
“Do nothing Duncan” is on six subcommittees. Someone has to take up space on the rostrum. He’s not on any major subcommittees so he may have been below Boehner’s radar.
He’s been the chairman of several different subcommittees and sits on 3 major committees. I think you should check your facts.
Nothing new here, this was all fought out shortly after the polls closed on November. There’ll be pork galore coming down the tracks for South Carolinians and everybody in our delegation but Duncan will get to take credit for some of it.
What will stop this BS is when we as a state electorate say “…screw your pork…cut our taxes, reign in spending and stop passing laws that do nothing but make life more complicated…” and of course, that will never happen.
… reign in spending…
Ye cats!
Et tu, Colonel?
As king, I was reigning over the treasury and making it rain money like a summer shower when I was told I needed to rein in my spending before I gave all the money away.
I’d blame spell check but I’d be lying…
[TBG experiences a “shakes cane and yells ‘get off my lawn!’ moment.”]
Most kids today have no concept of “reining in” or giving a horse “free rein”, which is why the misuse is so prevalent. You (like TBG), are too “long in the tooth” to have that as an excuse.
Been chomping at the bit to use that one!! : )
BS. He heard the pots and cans that were strung around the campfire banging and clanging and simply threw some red meat at the wolves. Nothing more, nothing less.
Don’t confuse unprincipled fear with courage.
The wolves will be back again next time and he’ll throw more red meat at them for the same unprincipled fear.
“Belch. So guys, I just want to grap onto that waitress with my big hands like this,” the Congressman said, between finishing the classic J Peters Slow Roasted Prime Rib Sandwich (Thin slices of slow-roasted Prime Rib flash heated in au jus and topped with Monterrey Jack cheese. Served on French bread – a low price of $11.49) and tuckering into a Cinnamon Apple Crumb Cobbler (A warm apple cobbler baked with homemade cinnamon crumbs served with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce – just $5.99). When the waitress returned she asked “Will these be seperate checks?”
“Naw, sweetheart,” said the Congressman, “I’ll just charge that off to my Congressional office as a constituent meeting. Hey honey, what’s your name? Are you a student near here?”
None of that is accurate. Not even the prices.
Please FITS stop with all the Boehner stuff. The House Speaker election was never a contest. There was no chance Boehner would be defeated, which is why the majority of the SC delegation voted for him. It was political theater, nothing more, nothing less…and you fell for it. As for Duncan, he is a complete nonfactor in Washington. Grandstanding over the Speaker election is about the only way the leadership or the media will pay any attention to him.
Grandstanding — along with posturing and posing — seems to be what passes for courage in politics now days. Leadership requires hard work, engagement, persuasion, and (sometimes) making a deal.
It’s a good thing Duncan doesn’t give two shits what the media thinks about him, and does what he’s supposed to do: serve. Wish my congressman was like him.
B Gentry you are a COMPLETE ASSHOLE. Duncan is not serving his people. He’s serving himself at the troth and eating those big old fat steaks served up by the lobbyists who pay up and tells him how to his vote.
Only in Sic’s warped world is Boehner a liberal.
Sanford missed his shot to not only appear the conscientious father, but appease his constituency in light of the poor odds of beating Boehner. All he had to say was: “I kissed ass to provide for my kids.” Feeble, I know, but all these fu@kwit politicians are coming off as spineless do-nothing wimps no matter how they voted. Are they trying to build low-expectations?
The Mess in DC is so thick one can not make heads or tails of what is real and what is not. The Political System in America is stacked against honorable people.
