“WE CAN’T LIVE IN A COUNTRY WITHOUT FREE SPEECH”

|| By FITSNEWS ||  So in the aftermath of the terror attack launched this week against French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, here’s a cartoon from David Pope of The Canberra Times in Australia that we feel sums up the situation about as well as anything we’ve seen.

Also interesting?  An ABC interview from 2012 with Charlie Hebdo‘s editor, Stephane Charbonnier.

“Our job is not to defend freedom of speech but without it we’re dead. We can’t live in a country without freedom of speech. I prefer to die than to live like a rat,” Charbonnier told the network at the time.

Later he added, “I haven’t time to be afraid.”

When terrorists attack people for speaking out, they bring more attention the people they attack. The 1st amendment in the U.S. is the most sacred of them all.

They’ve marterd the people they killed and the attackers will be forgotten along with all the other terrorists that died… because they deserved it.

“The 1st amendment in the U.S. is the most sacred of them all.”

Looking foward to the US reinforcing those values by allowing Julian Assange such freedom.

Please. That is as dumb as the ‘closet’ Muslim Obama not defining the Paris terrorists as Islamic.

Uh huh January 8, 2015 at 8:20 am

So you’re not aware of any?

Flip Coscoe January 8, 2015 at 8:24 am

The CIA and Pentagon are. Of course a radical socialist like yourself doesn’t believe we are at war with the terrorists-that they are just misunderstood, poor immigrants so we just have a disagreement on the definition of war.

Uh huh January 8, 2015 at 8:28 am

You are not aware of any specific occurrence, but you trust them?

Just like the FBI thought it was N.Korea that hacked Sony? Or that the CIA knew there were WMD in Iraq?

Seriously, how do you know what to believe when other people/agencies say things if that’s all you go by?

Flip Coscoe January 8, 2015 at 8:34 am

You trust our enemies and terrorists. I will trust those that seek to protect and defend this country everyday.

Uh huh January 8, 2015 at 8:37 am

“You trust our enemies and terrorists. ”

You know, you basically called me dumb earlier.

I have to say, after listening to your rhetoric, you constant false characterization of my viewpoints, etc., that it’s clear you blindly accept what ever you are told and then attack people without any logical or thinking basis to do so. I think that’s dumb. But hey, we are each entitled to our opinions.

Gold is a barbaric relic according to Keynes. Get with the program if you want to compliment me say:

Also, according to Bernanke gold is not money, but he can’t explain/doesn’t know why banks hold it.

Regardless, I know your intention was good, so thank you.

Really, I’m not basing my comments on emotion, I’m laying out my case. I don’t see yours as compelling.

Flip Coscoe January 8, 2015 at 8:38 am

Oh. That was Koolaid Saddamn gassed the Kurds with. He never had WMD’s.

Uh huh January 8, 2015 at 8:44 am

That wasn’t the “WMD” that the CIA claimed was there…they weren’t classifying it as such…old depleted mustard gas shells aren’t “WMD”. Even Bush said it:

“Now look, part of the reason we went into Iraq was — the main reason we went into Iraq, at the time, was we thought he had weapons of mass destruction. It turns out he didn’t, but he had the capacity to make weapons of mass destruction.”-Bush

It is scary. I sure appreciate having forums like FITS and SCPD to express opinions on politics however when I read the hateful comments about Fox News and other conservative MSM by radical socialist agitators like euwe max, Rocky, nitrat,Smirks,SCBlues etc…it reminds me how the inflammatory hate they project toward a ‘media’ they disagree with can be compared to what these radicals in Paris used for justification of their terror today.

Whether it is Paris, Ferguson or dead cops in New York the leftists need to dial it back a bit before we see something like the tragedy that happened in Paris happen at a conservative publication or Fox.

As Rodney King once said in the ‘Sermon on L.A.’- ‘can’t we all just get along’ ?

Reply
TyroneMamaCollards January 7, 2015 at 2:30 pm

it is the specific nature of Islam that fueled the attack. These are people who literally believe every word in the Koran just the way some Christians believe every word in the Bible. Religion cannot be used to justify policy or murder or terror regardless of the nation you live in. It not leftism that is the problem, it is the literal words of their Holy Book. Go buy a copy of the Koran at Barnes and Noble and read those parts of the Koran in the side columns called “hadiths.” It will freeze your blood and give you the shits.

Reply
Anonymous January 7, 2015 at 2:31 pm

It’s conservative religious people who commit nearly all of these types of crimes. Those were not liberal radicals in Paris, they were religious conservatives. Your type needs to dial it back and quit murdering people. Also, quit trying to justify torturing other human beings.

The back and forth between conservatives and liberals has been going on a lot longer then we’ve been around. Lately it’s been a lot more intense than I’ve seen in my 68 years and Islam has little to do with it.

Soft Sigh from Hell January 7, 2015 at 6:10 pm

Read about the late-1930s and the intense hatred of FDR, with a background influence of European fascism. It probably was considerably worse then than now. For example, Teabagger conventions pale next to Bund and Klan mass rallies.

I think Americans probably also hate each other less now than during the Vietnam war era and civil rights struggles.

idcydm January 7, 2015 at 6:22 pm

You could be right, it’s been a long time since I was called a baby killer but there have been some real hateful things said to me on this site. Maybe it’s because they can hide behind their keyboard and don’t have the intestinal fortitude to say it your face, be they conservative or liberal, which speaks volumes.

Soft Sigh from Hell January 7, 2015 at 6:27 pm

If you let the hate hurt, they’ve won. For good or bad, it takes a bit of a thick skin to post strong positions.

idcydm January 7, 2015 at 6:37 pm

The hate displayed on this site doesn’t hurt, expressing hate displays weakness and ignorance. As far as posting strong positions, hate isn’t needed, IMO it just weakens the position.

Mike at the Beach January 8, 2015 at 12:36 am

That’s a piss-poor analogy, but I think you knew that. Rattling cages…I get it. That’s a key difference between the cultures at play here, of course. Contrary to the hype, the US bends over backwards to reduce collateral damage and civilian casualties, and you know we don’t blow up reporters and cartoonists (unless the “reporter” happens to be carrying an AK). Islamists do collateral damage as sport. The incredible amount of killing occurring now across the Mideast and SW Asia receives very little coverage in the MSM, but it is atrocious. We should give the whole right-left thing a rest. I know plenty of progressives and Dems who are just about sick and tired of the Wahhabist / Islamist / AQ / ISIL culture, too.

Beirut Lebanon

Now, try again.

Reply
Mike at the Beach January 8, 2015 at 2:44 am

Not sure what your implication is, but I did a few pulls there. As I stated, we “bent over backwards” to avoid collateral damage and killing civilians. If you go way back to the 80’s, we shelled a few spots from offshore and caused some collateral damage, but only after taking direct fire and losing two aircraft to missiles from those areas. I am sure you also know that we lost a couple hundred Marines (on a peacekeeping and humanitarian mission) who were sleeping when the suicide truck bombs hit. War sucks.

um… who is “we” white man?

When did we last carpet bomb Lebanon?

Mike at the Beach January 8, 2015 at 3:48 pm

Dude…put down the Kool-Aid! By “we” I meant me and the guys with whom I was working in Beirut. Where you’re digging up the Jew thing I have no idea.

euwe max January 8, 2015 at 4:27 pm

You totally missed sigh’s reference.

I pulled the carpet bombing reference, because I felt you’d think this was a “proportional response.” Sorry for the inconvenience.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8a/Locations_bombed_Aug13_no_fact_box.jpg/640px-Locations_bombed_Aug13_no_fact_box.jpg

Mike at the Beach January 8, 2015 at 5:05 pm

I got the reference. Just because I don’t buy it doesn’t mean I don’t understand it; it simply wasn’t a valid point. If the US started assassinating reporters in their offices (in Beirut or elsewhere), of *course* there would be blowback from conservatives and everyone else, and rightfully so. As for your Wiki map, those are Israeli bombings (and not “carpet bombing” by any stretch of the imagination), not US military actions. The ground truth and facts just don’t match the narrative that apparently plays in your head, which must be uncomfortable.

euwe max January 8, 2015 at 7:14 pm

his reference was to Israel, not the US.

Mike at the Beach January 8, 2015 at 8:41 pm

Amigo…seriously…let’s drop it. You’re grasping now- are you and Soft Sigh on the phone or something? There’s nothing about that post (or the larger context) that says Israel. As a matter of fact, you only pulled that out after several specific references to the US. You even caught yourself on the silly “carpet bombing” accusation, which is patently, provably false (and that goes for the US and Israel). just…never…happened. Unless you’re living in Tel Aviv or Haifa these days, I took your use of “we” to mean the US. I’m going back to my corner- our worldviews are simply different. Namaste!

euwe max January 8, 2015 at 11:15 pm

In the course of editing, I often write stuff that requires revision. I wrote carpet bombing because of the saturation bombing in 2006… which no doubt destroyed buildings used in news reporting. It goes without saying that the United States never did, nor would, bomb Lebanon.

Flip Coscoe January 8, 2015 at 8:08 am

These despicable perverts of religion can really do nothing but sporadically kill innocent people every so often. They are so stupid, so wholly incompetent that they can’t even organize a proper military force to wage war on their so called enemies. Even ISIS is nothing more than a rag tag assembly of foreign fighters who managed to get their hands on some weapons.

Really…can’t we just nuke the whole middle east and start over again?

Just Me January 8, 2015 at 2:15 pm

Yup, they can’t do a thing. Just fly a couple of planes into buildings, light their shoes and underpants on fire. That’s all. Then the next thing you know we cannot bring a shampoo bottle in our carry on luggage and we have to take our shoes off and get a full body scan before we can get on a plane.
Do you remember when your family could meet you as you got off the plane? All these attacks are allowing our already overbearing governent to continue to take our liberties away in the name of safety.
An attack at a church here, an attack at a mall there and the next thing you know all the police are walking around with M4’s and we have battle tanks in the streets. It’s coming. All in the name of security.
Home of the brave my foot. Not any more.
