“CONSERVATIVE” LAWMAKER VOTED FOR LIBERAL LEADER – BUT ONLY AFTER CONSULTING THE ALMIGHTY
|| By FITSNEWS || If there’s one thing we hate more than the race card, it’s the “Jesus card.”
Seriously … it’s not that we don’t love us some Jesus (our founding editor ate his body and drank his blood four times in eight days over the Christmas break), we just don’t think the Son of our Lord should be used as a crutch to explain away a terrible political decision.
Just as government should have nothing to do with the church (including the institution of marriage), Jesus should have nothing to do with politicians. In fact our guess is he doesn’t have anything to do with them … but that’s not stopping them from invoking his name anyway.
Take “conservative” U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, who cast an inexplicable vote this week in support of uber-liberal U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner (a.k.a. U.S. president Barack Obama‘s best friend in Washington, D.C.).
In a lengthy (but not THAT lengthy) Facebook post, Sanford claims his decision to support Boehner – who stands for everything the former “Luv Gov” is supposed to stand against – was made after consulting with the Almighty.
“I pray now a lot more than I used to before votes,” Sanford wrote. “This is not to say that God sanctions my votes, just that I hope he will grant me the humility to know what I don’t know.”
Oh … dear … GOD.
Is this guy for real?
Here’s a pro tip: If you’re going to sell taxpayers down the river, at least have the guts to accept responsibility for it. Don’t drag Jesus down with you.
Of course as we noted the vote on Boehner’s speakership was a “gut check” decision … and only one member of the so-called “conservative” South Carolina delegation appears to have any guts.
Shame on Mark Sanford for lending his fiscally conservative imprimatur to Boehner, and double shame on him for implying Jesus had anything to do with his decision.

It must be tough to be a “conservative” and hate the Jesus card. Isn’t that their “go to” option on any issue?
Wouldn’t worry to much about it. You can’t possibly be a Christian and person of ‘faith’ when one’s sole purpose in life is apparently destroying people and bringing shame on your family.
A lot of conservatives of the libertarian persuasion are actually atheists — just like their idol, Ayn Rand. Will is an exception.
I know this is not popular position but I read “Atlas Shrugged” and I found it boring and so long. I wouldn’t quote Ann Rand to hang your hat on.
Yeah. It’s a dry read of a screed.
Thank you Mark Sanford for sharing with the people that elected you how your faith shapes your politics and influences your decisions on policy.
Tell that to Jenny and the boys…
Why don’t you send him money like you did Jim Baker?
We did send Mark money. Great investment in a Godly man and representative. Pro-life and traditional marriage-a fiscal conservative.
Joking right? Adultry, Divorce, etc, and all things Holey? No, that’s not a typo…
Sanford is lucky he still has someone who believes in him. Sadly, he has misused your trust, and maybe your dollars.
That was a good one!
Too bad his faith never helped him develop ethics…which pretty much defines 21st century christianists.
Exhibitions of faith fail without recognizing your own agency. Everytime Sanford opens his mouth about his interpretation of God’s interpretation of Sanford’s questionable behavior, it smacks of Narcissism and his entitlement. He LOVES giving himself a pass.
What a “get out of jail card” thing to do. “Sorry, I fucked you, but the Jesus told me….”
Spot on.
Americans should not elect legislators who take orders from foreign powers, even imaginary religious ones.
I take it you didn’t vote for Obama?
“I hope he will grant me the humility”
Sorry bub, I can’t grant you that…it’s the whole “free will” thing-but then again, you know that, don’t you?
Pathetic hypocritical cheater and liar.
Reminds me of Eckstrom and Peeler and Clinton. They must be quadruplets.
Get over it WW. Haley and Sanford stuck it up your liberal ass and ya just can’t stand it!!!
Haley and Sanford stuck it up your liberal ass
They’re just the sexual deviants that would try sticking stuff up peoples’ asses, huh? Is there room for Newt and Rush too?
I don’t think they supported your gay marriage?
pogo and GT both have quite the fixation on the nether orifice, do they not?
As a conservative, I find them both offensive. These two leeches have no place in public service. They have shown us who they are and it is well part time to say, NEXT!
Who is that guy in the picture? If I existed, I would have been a short, brown wavy-haired middle eastern man.
lulz…nicely done.
Anglo Jesus is more palpable to the WASP masses.
It’s actually a lot less rare than most folks think- most cultures have created a “Jesus” to whom they can relate. I used to travel a lot, and I’ve seen black Jesus in Africa, swarthy Palestinian Jew Jesus in the Mideast, and even a short little Asian Jesus in Korea and a few other places along the Pacific Rim. In Central America- you guessed it- he’s often a little brown guy. The weirdest Jesus I ran into was during a month-long stay in Thailand- he’s mostly blue there (and so is Mary; I bought a few little icons). I was told by some of the guys on the trip with me that it has something to do with the Hindu God tradition there, but I never researched that… At any rate, it’s not a white / WASP thing, it’s just a religious / cultural thing.
There are blue people in the Appalachian mountains. Whole families of them. Wonder if they know of Blue Jesus? Will they go to Blue heaven if they die before they find him?
Ha! I’ve read about that! Not many Hindus in Appalachia , though…
It’s called creating Christ/God in white man’s image. A form of control.

my bes. friend’s sister makes $85 every hour on the computer . She has been laid off for 5 months but last month her payment was $12113 just working on the computer for a few hours. see here now;.See More.
You need God to tell you what to do? Man up, for Christ sake.
Mohammed tells Obama what to do. You got a problem with that?
You’re a moron – stupid tells you what to do.
how original
get out your whip and throw him out of the Temple, like Jesus did to the hypocrites
Jesus threw out the money changers…you know, the free market capitalists.
“you know, the free market capitalists.”
Jesus was not rebuking “free market capitalism”.
First and foremost, HE WAS FOR PROPERTY RIGHTS.
He told them, “Make not My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”(KJV)
So in context, it was the fact that the money changers(who were also corrupt) brought their market inside HIS CHURCH(property!) that upset him.
Also, for a little more context, the corrupt money changers were overcharging for animal sacrifice at the Temple:
“Confirmation that the Temple was being turned into a marketplace during the time of Jesus can be found in some early Jewish writings. First of all, there is a record of the common practice of setting up money changers in the temple area during Passover. The Talmud states the following: “Beginning on the 1st of Adar ( the month before Passover), a proclamation was made to the people that they should prepare the Shekalim . . . On the 15th day of Adar, moneychangers were sent out to collect the Half-Shekel for its donation . . . On the 25th day of Adar, moneychangers were installed in the Temple itself to help in the collecting the Half-Shekel donation” Megillah 29a-b
http://www.biblehistory.net/newsletter/annas.htm
That’s anything but a “free market” my friend…Jesus has nothing against people trading on a voluntary basis-that’s all a free market is. He just didn’t want it done on HIS property, that was also subverting & corruption HIS church, but using the concept of salvation to hammer people into overpaying for animal sacrifice.
“Also, for a little more context, the corrupt money changers were overcharging for animal sacrifice at the Temple”
So Jesus was in favor of regulations on capitalism.
No, Jesus was in favor of property rights. Which means he was in favor of telling people what they could/could not do on his property.
Not accurate. It was not a free market system at all. You could not be a money changer unless you were “in” with temple, and since Rome was actually in charge of everything in those days, you pretty much had to be “in” with them as well. So it was crony capitalism. Just like what is really championed by many of the idiots on here who prattle on so much about free market capitalism.
Mark Sanford and Haley are the shit stains in South Carolinas underwear.
No, Mark’s a shit stain. Nikki is more like that bloody ready leaching stain in the middle of the panties.
Rocky! And here I thought you had affection for shade-y women of all stripes? She’s an immigrant too.
She’s actually not an immigrant. She was born in Bamberg SC, to American citizens.
Let’s take a peek at Will’s score card for voting for Boehner:
Sanford: Rebuked
Mulvaney: Rebuked — twice — after being warned
Gowdy: Crickets even though he missed the vote
Duncan: Props for voting for Gowdy
Wilson: Pending?
Rice: Low expectations
Whats-his-name: Who?
Lets take a peek at who CONTROLS government:
SENATE:REPUBLICANS
HOUSE: REPUBLICANS
GOV: REPUBLICANS
STATE LEGISLATURES: REPUBLICANS
Please get your head out of Will’s ass and face reality.
If you get yours out of Tango’s ass.
No hope of stopping the ACA till at the very least 2017. Muahahahahaha!
Really? SCOTUS in June. Read it and weep!
Not going to happen.
Not going to happen.
We’ll have already paid out subsidies for one year by then. :)
Hell, we had Dred Scott for years – slavery was wrong regardless…
Aren’t taxes going up and the subsidies going away?
UK Health services are our future.
Yoho?
Just another shameless, self-serving narcissist using religion to wipe their ass.
Religion has always been a tool for the ruling class to control the masses.
“shameless”
bingo
my half-sister makes $70 hourly on the computer . She has been fired for six months but last month her income was $15579 just working on the computer for a few hours. blog here;.See.More.
Yes, the escort business is booming. Apparently, she manages to stay online while servicing her clients. Ah, the wonders of modern technology!
Yeah well, not so much now… today it is sports and entertainment – both owned by the Democrat party – that are the tools in which the ruling class controls the masses.
That’s crap. The Democratic party does not rule sports and entertainment just because a lot of people in sports and entertainment happen to be Democrats. It is owned by big money, much of which is Republican money. Fox, for example. A major player in both sports and entertainment. You telling me Rupert Murdock is a Republican?
You hit it out of the Ball Park. KUDOS
Well, God came to “W” in the Rose Garden and told him to attack Iraq.
And, he told every single Republican who ran for president in 2012 to do so.
He spoke to Pelosi about abortion too
Even if Mark Sanford voted “no”, Boehner would still have won. He got the most votes.
Why are you all stepping on a dead horse? He’s made a comeback and you are still angry with him. Get over that and move on. See what you can do for SC not what SC can do for you.
Stand by your principles & vote your conscience…. unless you think you might lose.
Somebody should put that on a bumper sticker.
I think I’m going to try praying for politicians who aren’t half-ass Taliban Wannabes. Can we not find Leaders who can take care of the Public’s interests without trying to be our village witch doctor at the same time?
Jesus is not the best one to go to for political advise. He wasn’t in town a week and he gets crucified.
ba dum dum… ching!
Thought you said earlier that Sanford had deleted his Facebook page? Is this the second coming?
Probably deactivated and then reactivated it again. Shuts it down until you choose to start it back up. You can do that an unlimited number of times.
Hasn’t FITS claimed to be a follower of Jesus?
Like you?
Have I ever ridiculed people for being Christians..and do I attack them for it?
There’s a huge difference between ridiculing a politician for being a Christian and calling him on using his faith as an excuse for a cold, calculated exercise in political expediency.
After you have revealed yourselves for who, and what, you are….I’m more concerned with you – and FITS – acting as arbiters as to who is Christian enough, and who is not….in accordance w/ your standards.
Excellent! Speaking just for myself, it’s good to know you won’t have your delicate feelings hurt too badly by the fact that I see nothing at all Christian in the way you deport yourself on this site.
That actually is my point….I have absolutely NO desire to please you, the low brow, pop culture or the secular immoralists…
Your judgement of me is MEANINGLESS. I am the exact opposite of you….and that’s is what makes me EXCEEDINGLY rare and my views, valuable, while you are very common, cliche and not very interesting, except as an indicator….
He’s not ridiculing, nor attacking him for being a Christian, Einstein.
CornBread Confusedus says:
This SOB is gonna knock the gates of Hell of the hinges!
sorry dude, when you attend magic class and practice cannibalism, you are carrying water for not only bold hypocrites like sanford, but for religious extremists everywhere including the violent ones.
Playing up your Christianity is an inexpensive way to get votes. (Pioneered by a Democrat, Jimmy Carter, by the way. Republicans never invent anything new). The only requirement should be that a politician acts like a Christian when he or she gets into office. It’s amazing that Republican voters don’t hold their politicians to that standard.
The Luv Gov really ought to brush up on his “Bible-Speak” a bit. He sounds like he’s miming his Men’s Prayer Group leader, rather than someone who has seriously studied the Bible.
That’s ’cause that’s what he’s doing.
But, keep in mind it’s The Fellowship/The Family/C Street/National Prayer Breakfast/Prison Ministries/etc (they have dozens of front groups and change names as frequently as the Kochs change theirs) cult that also embraces the murderous dictators of the 20thh and 21st centuries and takes their money to get into the National Prayer Breakfast every years and sell access to the US President.
Excellent one, Awe SNAP!
Sanford is just Bat Shit Crazy.
Well. At least he said he’s not claiming that God sanctions his votes. That’s something.
Not much, I’ll grand. But it’s something.
I remember him.He was the lead singer for Grand Funk Railroad, before going broke, and giving his heart over to The Lord.AMEN and amen.
I can’t see why someone who makes a passing reference to praying for guidance should come under ridicule. I really don’t, especially when the commentator then tries to trump the Jesus card with a flush (or full-house) reference to having partaken in nearly a dozen Eucharists over the twelve days of Christmas. Why don’t we al – in the spirit of the season – refrain from mocking others’ expressions of faith? I bet The Big Guy upstairs would appreciate it.
