“CONSERVATIVE” LAWMAKER VOTED FOR LIBERAL LEADER – BUT ONLY AFTER CONSULTING THE ALMIGHTY

|| By FITSNEWS ||  If there’s one thing we hate more than the race card, it’s the “Jesus card.”

Seriously … it’s not that we don’t love us some Jesus (our founding editor ate his body and drank his blood four times in eight days over the Christmas break), we just don’t think the Son of our Lord should be used as a crutch to explain away a terrible political decision.

Just as government should have nothing to do with the church (including the institution of marriage), Jesus should have nothing to do with politicians.  In fact our guess is he doesn’t have anything to do with them … but that’s not stopping them from invoking his name anyway.

Take “conservative” U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, who cast an inexplicable vote this week in support of uber-liberal U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner (a.k.a. U.S. president Barack Obama‘s best friend in Washington, D.C.).

In a lengthy (but not THAT lengthy) Facebook post, Sanford claims his decision to support Boehner – who stands for everything the former “Luv Gov” is supposed to stand against – was made after consulting with the Almighty.

“I pray now a lot more than I used to before votes,” Sanford wrote.  “This is not to say that God sanctions my votes, just that I hope he will grant me the humility to know what I don’t know.”

Oh … dear … GOD.

Is this guy for real?

Here’s a pro tip: If you’re going to sell taxpayers down the river, at least have the guts to accept responsibility for it.  Don’t drag Jesus down with you.

Of course as we noted the vote on Boehner’s speakership was a “gut check” decision … and only one member of the so-called “conservative” South Carolina delegation appears to have any guts.

Shame on Mark Sanford for lending his fiscally conservative imprimatur to Boehner, and double shame on him for implying Jesus had anything to do with his decision.

It must be tough to be a “conservative” and hate the Jesus card. Isn’t that their “go to” option on any issue?

Wouldn’t worry to much about it. You can’t possibly be a Christian and person of ‘faith’ when one’s sole purpose in life is apparently destroying people and bringing shame on your family.

It’s actually a lot less rare than most folks think- most cultures have created a “Jesus” to whom they can relate. I used to travel a lot, and I’ve seen black Jesus in Africa, swarthy Palestinian Jew Jesus in the Mideast, and even a short little Asian Jesus in Korea and a few other places along the Pacific Rim. In Central America- you guessed it- he’s often a little brown guy. The weirdest Jesus I ran into was during a month-long stay in Thailand- he’s mostly blue there (and so is Mary; I bought a few little icons). I was told by some of the guys on the trip with me that it has something to do with the Hindu God tradition there, but I never researched that… At any rate, it’s not a white / WASP thing, it’s just a religious / cultural thing.

Reply
Buz Martin January 8, 2015 at 6:45 am

There are blue people in the Appalachian mountains. Whole families of them. Wonder if they know of Blue Jesus? Will they go to Blue heaven if they die before they find him?

Reply

Jesus threw out the money changers…you know, the free market capitalists.

Reply
Nope January 7, 2015 at 1:18 pm

“you know, the free market capitalists.”

Jesus was not rebuking “free market capitalism”.

First and foremost, HE WAS FOR PROPERTY RIGHTS.

He told them, “Make not My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”(KJV)

So in context, it was the fact that the money changers(who were also corrupt) brought their market inside HIS CHURCH(property!) that upset him.

Also, for a little more context, the corrupt money changers were overcharging for animal sacrifice at the Temple:

“Confirmation that the Temple was being turned into a marketplace during the time of Jesus can be found in some early Jewish writings. First of all, there is a record of the common practice of setting up money changers in the temple area during Passover. The Talmud states the following: “Beginning on the 1st of Adar ( the month before Passover), a proclamation was made to the people that they should prepare the Shekalim . . . On the 15th day of Adar, moneychangers were sent out to collect the Half-Shekel for its donation . . . On the 25th day of Adar, moneychangers were installed in the Temple itself to help in the collecting the Half-Shekel donation” Megillah 29a-b

http://www.biblehistory.net/newsletter/annas.htm

That’s anything but a “free market” my friend…Jesus has nothing against people trading on a voluntary basis-that’s all a free market is. He just didn’t want it done on HIS property, that was also subverting & corruption HIS church, but using the concept of salvation to hammer people into overpaying for animal sacrifice.

Reply
TSIB January 7, 2015 at 3:01 pm

“Also, for a little more context, the corrupt money changers were overcharging for animal sacrifice at the Temple”

So Jesus was in favor of regulations on capitalism.

Reply
Nope January 7, 2015 at 3:40 pm

No, Jesus was in favor of property rights. Which means he was in favor of telling people what they could/could not do on his property.

Buz Martin January 8, 2015 at 10:54 am

Not accurate. It was not a free market system at all. You could not be a money changer unless you were “in” with temple, and since Rome was actually in charge of everything in those days, you pretty much had to be “in” with them as well. So it was crony capitalism. Just like what is really championed by many of the idiots on here who prattle on so much about free market capitalism.

Playing up your Christianity is an inexpensive way to get votes. (Pioneered by a Democrat, Jimmy Carter, by the way. Republicans never invent anything new). The only requirement should be that a politician acts like a Christian when he or she gets into office. It’s amazing that Republican voters don’t hold their politicians to that standard.

I can’t see why someone who makes a passing reference to praying for guidance should come under ridicule. I really don’t, especially when the commentator then tries to trump the Jesus card with a flush (or full-house) reference to having partaken in nearly a dozen Eucharists over the twelve days of Christmas. Why don’t we al – in the spirit of the season – refrain from mocking others’ expressions of faith? I bet The Big Guy upstairs would appreciate it.
