FUNDRAISING CLINIC TO BENEFIT ADAM BACON
By FITSNEWS || In the spirit of the season of giving, we’d call your attention to the story of Adam Bacon – a Lexington County firefighter who recently suffered a serious neck injury while participating in training at a local Jiu jitsu facility.
According to our sources, Bacon was training on October 30 when he “was thrown, landed wrong, and damaged his cervical spine.” As a result, he was paralyzed from the chest down – except for some simple motor skills to his arms. At one point things got so bad he had to be placed on a ventilator.
“Injuries like this are extremely rare, we just don’t see them often,” one local martial artist told FITS.
In an effort to help Bacon and his family deal with the flood of medical bills they’re incurring, members of South Carolina’s martial arts community are hoping to rally public support behind an innovative fundraising idea.
This Saturday (December 13, 2014), the Columbia Grapplers, MMA Fighters and Martial Artists are hosting a day-long seminar where they will share their knowledge of basic martial arts techniques with the public.
The event starts at 9:00 a.m. and its various sessions will run off and on through 4:00 p.m. Of particular interest to parents? At 2:00 p.m. there’s a kid’s seminar that teaches children basic self-defense techniques and what to do if they are approached by strangers.
Access to all of the seminars is $40 – with all proceeds from the event going to help pay Bacon’s medical bills. It’s a great way to help out someone in need … and help yourself by learning some helpful life skills in the process.
The event will be held at Athlete’s Arena – 1019 Broad Stone Road (Inside the Plex) in Irmo, S.C. Oh … and if you can’t attend the event, you can contribute to Adam’s cause directly by clicking HERE.

Good luck to these guys … and good luck to Adam. We’ll be keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Darwin award recipient.
But why do they come?? It makes no sense 8-O
Best of wishes to him…..
I will pray for him …. Having been involved with martial arts study and training, this is a rare injury. But it is not uncommon for other lesser injuries to happen when sparing with another inside a dojo. I have seen broken legs, arms, dislocated jaws (mine once was), sprains, etc. But never anything like this.
