BUCKEYE QUARTERBACK REPORTEDLY TARGETED BY GAMECOCKS
By FITSNEWS || While everyone in the Southeastern Conference remains on pins and needles awaiting the Will Muschamp verdict … don’t neglect the speculation swirling around Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller.
The 22-year-old signal caller – who posted a 28-8 record as the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback from 2011-13 – has one year of eligibility remaining in head coach Urban Meyer‘s program after redshirting this year with a shoulder injury. Most presumed Miller would return to Columbus as Ohio State’s starting quarterback for the 2015 season – but the emergence of redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett has thrown that scenario into doubt.
Many around the Buckeye program believe Barrett should be the starter in 2015 – with Miller switching to running back. Their argument? Barrett’s incredible 2014 season – and the back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing campaigns Miller put together in 2012 and 2013 (while playing quarterback). Plus Barrett under center and Miller in the backfield seems to fit Meyer’s offense better.
Miller’s argument for remaining under center? The 5,292 career passing yards (and 52 touchdowns) he’s thrown over the course of his career.
“I am on course to graduate in December and I want to attend graduate school, and then return to lead the Buckeyes next season,” Miller said in August after his injury.
Assuming he graduates, Miller would be in the same position Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was in four years ago when he left North Carolina State to play for Wisconsin – meaning he could attend any school in America as a graduate transfer student and play football without having to sit out a year.
So … is South Carolina one of teams hoping to land Miller?
Yes …
Sources close to the Gamecock program tell FITS head coach Steve Spurrier‘s staff is eager to lure the 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback from Columbus to Columbia – but it looks as though they’ll have plenty of competition.
Top 20 programs like Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon and UCLA all either have – or are likely to have – quarterback openings in 2015 (depending on who turns pro). If Miller is available, you’d better believe these programs will also be trying to scoop him up.
Miller injured his shoulder during the 2014 Orange Bowl against Clemson. Eight-and-a-half months later he was diagnosed with a torn labrum – resulting in season-ending surgery. In other words even if he does leave Ohio State – and the Gamecocks are able to convince him to transfer – there’s no guarantee he will perform at the same level he showed in winning back-to-back Big Ten offensive player of the year awards in 2012 and 2013.
Still … with no experienced quarterbacks on the Gamecock roster heading into 2015 Spurrier would be foolish not to go after Miller. Just as he would be foolish not to go after Muschamp.
After reverting to mediocrity in 2014, it’s time for Spurrier’s program to make some bold moves … and we can’t think of anything bolder than landing Muschamp and/ or Miller.

My major concern is he had the same injury as Willie Korn. QB’s have a hard time coming back from that injury. With that said, he would be the starter from the moment he put his foot on campus. There ain’t much behind him
LMAO!!!!! Braxton Miller WILL be the starting qb at THE Ohio State University next season.
Bucks are untouchable next year and will be plenty of snaps for Barrett in blow outs…Miller is also prone to injuries even in high school. Job will be Barretts after Miller leaves and he will only be a junior in 2016.
Anyway ,Spurrier is so senile he would probably make Miller a fullback?:-)
OH_IO …
0-2 against The USC
0-2 against Clemson too. lol…
so is that part of OH-IO is getting a new are code. 0-4-4 since they are 0 for 4 vs the state of SC
Tiss the season when O$U plays SEC team in a bowl and gets killed. 1-10 Dude! Feel free to return “up yonder”
Remember Alabama’s shellacking of Notre Dame a couple years ago?
Notre Dame is consistently the second most overrated team in the country.
Guess who’s the first?
SCAR. Weren’t they #6 in Sept.? How did that turn out?
I guess it never did seeing as how they were never #6, dumbass
Kick 6
After he sees what the SEC champ can do to a second-rate team like Ohio State, he might consider transferring to Vanderbilt. That’s about the only SEC team that could use him.
Miller could put up 45 points a game for any college football program-that means with South Carolina’s defense they would go 7-5.
Indiana beat Missouri @ Mizzou. SEC who?
Alabama crushed Mizzou as expected. I don’t see many heavyweights on Ohio State’s schedule. Wisconsin lost to LSU. Michigan State lost to Oregon. Ohio State lost to an ACC also-ran. Once Big 10 teams step out of the kiddie pool, they show how weak they are.
Wisconsin lost to LSU 28-24 and was ahead the entire game. Ohio State blew Michigan State out.
Alabama-Mizzou game was a one possession game in the 3rd quarter. Alabama can’t score enough points to beat Ohio State. Game on ‘turf’-no weather elements (which the SEC teams refuse to play in cold weather) and Bucks are too athletic for Alabama.

BAMA played FAU, Sou. Miss. W. Va. and W. Caroline. Tough schedule. Right Butch?
Four of seven non conference teams the SEC lost to this year were ACC teams.
Some times a blind dog catches a fish!!!
Bible Thumper-How about flip that conversation around and use the standard Clemson history lesson talk. SEC vs ACC over the last 10 or 15 years, take your pick. What is the record? Will you shut up if Alabama rolls your ACC heavy weight-Florida St?
THREE ACC VS SEC BOWL MATCHES
Miami, FL vs. South Carolina – Duck Commander Independence Bowl
(13) Georgia vs. (21) Louisville – Belk Bowl
(7) Mississippi St. vs. (12) Georgia Tech – Orange bowl
PLUS:
Franklin Amer. Mort. Music City Bowl
Notre Dame vs. (23) LSU
The SEC is higher ranked and picked to win in each bowl except Miami is picked over South Carolina and neither are ranked.
(1)ALABAMA AND (3)FSU MUST GET TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TO PLAY.
@ art slickster:
Wanna bet???
*chuckles*
the sec as a total has lost 7 non conference games out of 14 teams. ALL FROM THE SEC EAST!!! 0 from the west. The BIG TEN has lost 15 non conference games.
Would love to see Miller become a Gamecock. The Buckeyes are pretty crowded at quarterback with Barrett and Cardale Jones. Miller’s talented and a good kid. He deserves a chance to start somewhere.
You would love to see anyone be a Gamecock. Anyone could probably help you.
FITS is reporting that the Shamecocks are actively recruiting Miller? How does that happen?
Is that a NCAA violation?
And if he did transfer, wouldn’t he have to sit out a year?
Please read the article closely, if he graduates and pursues a graduate degree at another school, he does not have to sit out.
Your Boy, Willie Korn did that!
Reading what is actually said is not one of this kids specialties (although he is a “special” little boy).
He should become a Gamecock. Maybe get drafted into the NFL, collect his check and leave without playing a game. Y’all love that stuff.
about as much as our coach saying he has 4 NFL quality QB’s just a few years ago. lets look at how all of those turned out. Willie Korn, nope, Kyle Parker good but not good enough now playing baseball, Chad Kelly, hahaha nuff said Tajh Boyd, didn’t make it in the NFL. Stoudt, seriously???? so which ones was he talking about?
How many NFL QB’s has Steve turned out in 36 years of coaching? 2?
God you are a fucking idiot. Spurrier has been a head coach for only 25 years not 36 (unless you want to credit him with also the 2 years he was a NFL coach and in which case by default he would also get credit for all QB’s on the roster during that span too). He has directly coached as the head coach for at least one year of their college career 5 different QB’s to get drafted and PLAY for an NFL team. That’s one every 5 years (and a college career span for most nfl QBs is 4 years so 3 at the earliest so that’s not far off on the average). You had a shot to ask how many at USC had under Spurrier, but you missed it thinking you were smart and went with Spurrier overall. By the way in the same time frame (since 1987) your Tigers have had only 1 play in the NFL. (Boyd got drafted but never played). That’s 4 less than Spurrier did in the same time frame, and none for Dabo. If he keeps playing players hurt he will have the same total when Watcson leaves Clemson. I understand its the tater way to change the truth to how you wish it sounds but you aren’t even doing that. You are just being an idiot. Next time get your facts right before you go trolling.
Need names? go look them up yourself but you will find I am right.
And before you retort asking how many from USC, remember that it is the same for Dabo at Clemson.
Beats getting mercy drafted by the Jets, dumped, and then playing in the Fall Experimental Football League. Y’all probably too stupid to understand that.
Are those pot leaves on his helmet?
Nope. Buckeye leaves. I asked the same thing on twitter during last years Orange Bowl.
No brainer. Just think, this time next year he could be gearing up for the “Honey Boo Boo Gov’t Assistance Bowl” held in Columbia, SC.
HA … ok +2 for that … WELL played.
Sad but true…
Good god you people are delusional.
Maybe Amari Cooper will come to USC, too!
Or Swag Kelly? Would definitely make things more interesting.
But Braxton is from Ohio and was not born with SEC speed; right?
Fucking halfwhits.. brax is gonna shred all these dirty south rat bastard haters next year! O-H-.. I-O
And where all you “SloHio” haters at now, cause j Marshall and d Smith and zeke and our entire defense basically is all reaalllllyyy slows.. I mean all those sec guys are soo much faster!!! Pshhh… Get the fuck outta here.. Ohio state would put at least half the sec teams dick in the dirt in the first half and when I say half that is being very generous… We will see how slow Ohio state is on January One. on our 3rd string qb and still the best.. Y’all can’t hang with them bucks right now.. Maybe in week 2.. we all know how much y’all love to talk about week 2
you might want to finally beat a team from the state of SC first before you go trolling on a site in SC.
Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller.
Well…he would have a built in fanbase from the coastal areas of SC.
Will the last Ohioan to leave for SC please turn out the lights.
Loved his dedication to the Buckeyes through all the adversity they faced.
However…Braxton in Oregon gives so many exciting feelings! I’d love to see that one happen!
This sounds ridiculous. Texas needs him, not us. We have a 4 star dual threat on the way, and I think HBC has plans for the quarterbacks we have. They deserve their shot. With Pharoh catching, how well do you have to throw the ball?
ESPN 300 rates him a 3 star-graded out a 79.
I dont give a crap what espn rates anyone. I looked at his game film. Connor Shaw was a 2 or 3 star btw.
Well you are the one who said he is a 4 star, so you are recruiting service?
To be fair, most recruiting services have Nunez as a 4 star, anywhere from the 12-19 best dual threat QB in High School. ESPN does grade him at a 79, 1 point short of a 4 star. Rivals has him at a 5.7 or 5.8. Now Deshaun Watson was graded out as 6.1 and the #1 dual threat QB in the nation for comparison. However, regardless of ranking, if they are injury prone, they are no threat to the opposing team because they are on the sidelines. We hope the Gamecocks land an incoming freshman QB that can start very soon and perform well because they need it desperately.
ESPN is so biased toward the SEC it’s funny.
Cue the Cam Newton bags of cash left on the porch auction. I am sure he will be lured away by just the promise of an excellent graduate program in “sports management.”
Bottom line – Michigan still sucks
BRAXTON MILLER will be in attendance for the USC vs Clemson basketball game on next saturday!!!
