“THROW OUT THE RECORD BOOKS?”
By FITSNEWS || You’ve heard the expression “throw out the record books?” Well don’t … at least not as it relates to the Carolina-Clemson football rivalry.
Since 1981 the team entering the game with the best record has gone 19-9-1. And if you’re wondering why those numbers don’t quite add up, bear in mind that on four occasions over that 33-year time frame the teams have entered the game with identical records (most recently in 2011).
Recent history has seen a reverse of the trend, though. In the last nine meetings, the team with the better record has actually lost seven times – including last year’s 31-17 Gamecock victory.
In 111 previous meetings, Clemson has entered the South Carolina game with a better record 61 times – posting a 40-18-3 mark in those games. The Gamecocks have entered the game with a better record 40 times – and are 21-18-1 in those games. Clemson enjoys a 6-3 advantage in those games in which both teams enter with the same record.
Overall, Clemson enjoys a 65-42-4 series lead.
For those of you keeping score at home, Clemson enters this year’s tilt with an 8-3 mark, while the Gamecocks are 6-5. Both teams have lost a step after posting double digit wins over their last three seasons – and Top Ten finishes in each of the last two years.
FITS referred to this series as a “Rivalry in Name Only” five years ago – when Clemson had won ten of twelve games. Since then, though, the Gamecocks have reeled off five straight wins – their longest streak ever against the Tigers.
First played in 1896, the Gamecocks and Tigers have met every year since 1909 – making this the third-longest uninterrupted rivalry in the nation (and the longest in the South).
Clemson enters this year’s game as a 4.5-point favorite at home … where it has lost two in a row to the Gamecocks. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EST on Saturday. ESPN will televise the game nationally, with Steve Levy, Kelly Stouffer and Dawn Davenport providing coverage.

I stand corrected we have only missed 2 games in the 1900’s were as UGAy and Scam Newtons University took time off for WW1&2. That being said i still think your a Dumbass Fits.
Interesting stats. Saturday we get to see Dabo cry.
Or Spurrier retire.
I think there may be just a little bit more pressure on Dabs.
Don;t feel so special.
That dude has like an $24 million buyout; he can lose to everyone for years in a row and not worry about it.
Thanks for the reminder that 1981 was 33 years ago. Ouch.
This is so boring…On SCPSD…We ask: Why is THE CHANT of 2004 (We Want Spurrier) never rehashed never referenced by the Dumb@$$ media…like FITS???
On FITS the posters chant “why does Tango keep advertising his crap here?”
Gamecock fans please behave this weekend while in Clemson. Remember you will be on the campus of a Top 20 Public University which I know is foreign to you. Enjoy!
