SOUTH CAROLINA REPUBLICAN DEFEATED IN BID TO LEAD HOUSE’S “CONSERVATIVE” CAUCUS
By FITSNEWS || U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney was handily defeated in his bid to become chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) – a group of GOP House members who ostensibly hold down the right flank of the badly fractured “majority” party in Washington, D.C.
Mulvaney – who ousted powerful U.S. House budget chairman John Spratt in the 2010 GOP “wave” election – was beaten badly by second-term Texas Republican Rep. Bill Flores.
Flores received 84 votes to Mulvaney’s 57 on the decisive second ballot, according to The Politico.
The RSC defines itself as “a group of House Republicans organized for the purpose of advancing a conservative social and economic agenda in the House of Representatives.”
“The Republican Study Committee is dedicated to a limited and Constitutional role for the federal government, a strong national defense, the protection of individual and property rights, and the preservation of traditional family values,” its website states.
All six GOP members of the U.S. House from South Carolina – including fiscal liberals Joe Wilson and Tom Rice – claim membership in the organization.
Flores, 60, will assume leadership of the organization in January.
“It is important that we take full advantage of the RSC’s size, character and the passion of its members to advance our conservative agenda in order to restore America to the ‘shining city on a hill’ that Ronald Reagan envisioned,” Flores said in a statement.
Conservatives within the group voiced their displeasure with Flores’ selection.
According to Breitbart, U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador was furious over the vote – and hinted that it might prompt an exodus of hard line conservatives from the group. Meanwhile former RSC leader Jim Jordan offered a substantially less-than-enthusiastic nod of support for Flores in the aftermath of the vote.
“I was for Mick,” he said.
Flores – who is friendly with several establishment “Republicans” in the House – has publicly said he does not view the RSC as a vehicle for holding the GOP leadership in Washington, D.C. accountable.
“There’s nothing in the mission statement about trying to hold leadership accountable,” he said.
We would respectfully disagree with that statement ….

Too crazy for the GOP Regulars? That ought to guarantee his re-election by the Tea-Tard Irregulars of SC.

Even his own party knows he’s cray-cray! One of SC’s finest.
lol…Dems vote again for Reid and Pelosi to lead them.
11 senate seats and 72 house seats lost under their marxist rule-and the gays and racists and the socialists and the perverts and the American haters elect em again.
crazy-crazy
You know Boehner and McConnell are about to stab you in the back on Obamacare and Amnesty – right?
No he doesn’t.
He’s an idiot. He really believes all that Republican BS?
And President Obama is STILL president and 2016 will be a smack down for the GOP. What’s your point? That the GOP is the real America/American haters and full of racist, bigots, and could care less about you or anyone else not in their little club.
I wanna run to be the top luney in the luney bin group.
“and the preservation of traditional family values.” That’s where the dopey GOP loses so many potential voters. Lee Atwater is long dead, and his Southern strategy doesn’t give you a nationally viable party any more.
And why is it that so many “family values” types are so wayward in their own personal lives?
Mulvaney. no clout, no stature, no respect, no ideas, and no good. He is just a Mega- taker, in Washington for the gubment check, the gubment healthcare and the gubment retirement. When will SC get tired of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to support these worthless people, who have never brought one thing of value to this state?
So who do you support to take his place?
It does not matter. The GOP will never remove him. The only way is to vote for his opponent. Whoever that is. Whoever it is cannot do any less than he has. Mulvaney is a lifer. He will sit on his ass and collect his gubment check, his gubment healthcare and his gubment retirement, until he is removed. All while bitching about people getting social security and medicare. Most of whom have done more for this state than he ever has.
“hinted that it might prompt an exodus of hard line conservatives from the group.”
Great, form a splinter group from the splinter group.
And how ironic, the left used to do this many decades ago. Ideological purity.
Mic is already running for governor and his comrades in DC know that, hence the loss.
In other sad news Annette Funicello has passed on.
oh but wait just like Jimmy Deminted he is a rising star???
The Steve King caucus decided they would deal with the open boring RINO instead of the closet RINO. Until a good candidate comes along they would rather deal with Boehner and Flores instead of “conservative” Mulvaney who is best friends with Mark Zuckerberg, Paul Ryan and Mario Diaz-Balart.
Mulvaney supports amnesty for illegals. He is also as bigoted as Lindsey Graham. Ingraham and others are going to find someone to primary him in 2016. Id rather a boring RINO like Boehner or Flores than a self professed Tea Party member (like Mulvaney or Gowdy) who thinks the movement is about pandering to illegals. Mulvaney has Spanish town halls pandering to illegals. Drudge Report and Breitbart have called him out.
“Louie is a member of the ship-them-home-in-boxcars caucus, and I respect that,” Mulvaney said.”
