By FITSNEWS || From the “you didn’t build that” file of colossally dumb political utterances, the usually polished Hillary Clinton committed a major unforced error while campaigning in Boston, Massachusetts on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley.
Perhaps you’ve heard the quote already?
“Don’t let anybody tell you it’s corporations and businesses (that) create jobs,” Clinton told the crowd. “You know that old theory, ‘trickle-down economics.’ That has been tried, that has failed. It has failed rather spectacularly.”
Really?
Last time we checked perpetual government “stimulus” was spectacularly failing our country – to the tune of 93 million working age Americans out of the labor force, stagnant wages and $18 trillion in debt.
Oh and record government dependency … which was probably government’s objective in the first place.
By contrast, businesses – especially small and mid-sized ones – do create jobs. And they’d be creating millions more of them if government would stop taxing and regulating them to death.
While Clinton’s remark is shockingly stupid, it’s not surprising coming from her. After all she is the mother of U.S. president Barack Obama‘s socialized medicine law. Or grandmother, if you ask some of her opponents …
Clinton has been working hard in recent months to distance herself from Obama – burnishing her credentials as a “neo-conservative” (a.k.a. warmonger).
Her objective? Picking up moderate voters who approve of the “Republican” foreign policy.
Not sure how this helps that effort …

“Eat the rich” is an easy sell as the economy deteriorates . People are suffering more and see the big corps getting all the tax breaks they can’t get…so naturally it’s easy to hate them.(and anyone “doing well”, because the assumption is they cheated for it)
Never once do they consider that they reason they are struggling has nothing to do with a corporate tax break. They are just struggling, see the inequality, & are rightfully pissed but misplace their blame.
It’s gov’t that both has impoverished them and created the atmosphere of economic inequality, but they are blinded by their emotions and the demagogues that play them like a fiddle(credit Hillary).

Why do so many assume that people who rail about the rich being greedy are jealous? I, for one, would not want to be Donald Trump or a Koch or the CEO of a corporation. Who needs that much money? With all those starving and thirsting in the world, it’s a sin. Most of them could never spend what they have in their lifetime and work too hard to keep it. Money can’t buy love or happiness.

Nope, government also hires to satisfy demand, such as demand for more infrastructure.
No its factual logic, businesses only hire because of demand, and its the intention of the business that they will make more revenue from fulfilling demand than the expenses they will pay for having the employee (its how they make a profit, Revenues exceeding expenses)
Demand creates jobs
Businesses would be perfectly happy if they could do said business without employees as employee compensation is an expense.
But in order to meet consumer demand, they must have labor.
Correct. And thusly businesses create jobs … to supply the demand.
And if there were no demand, there would be no business … and no jobs … and no profits for the business … and no taxes to collect.
In one of my businesses, I used to have six employees. Now that business only requires three employees, thanks to Oh Bummer and politically greedy government replacing the demand with welfare recipients, who are now dumbed down and rely on trickle down poverty.
So like I said, its demand, not business that creates jobs, since without the demand the business will not hire.
Of course missing from that equation is government, because government can not efficiently replace business in fulfillment of a demand, even when government tries to.
Example = health care insurance. Even if it is perceived that business is providing health care insurance at an excessive or exorbitant profit, government still can not compete.
In most cases you are correct, government cannot compete with business, as it is less efficient.
However there are cases where business, left to its own devices will come up with a situation that is less economically beneficial than allowing the government to take a role.
Lets look at your healthcare example.
Yes business can give more efficient care than government can. However when dealing with a situation where healthcare costs can become too expensive for people to afford, or where people will choose to take advantage of more expensive forms of care (such as ER) in order to avoid paying health costs, the government has a role to play.
Government should not be the first option, but it should be used to help deal with situations where the free market on its own will create a negative result.

Oh? If (health care) costs are too high for people to afford, then there must be an imbalance in the supply and demand equation: greater demand, smaller supply. … Which the private sector (business) will promptly address but government can not address without additional taxation.
The imbalance is of course driven by government in the case of health care insurance. Fully 30% of the costs (overhead) of private sector health care insurance is spent satisfying government regulations. (Ask any medical insurance office worker or private general practice nurse.) … Yet Even with that, the private sector is able to deliver health care insurance more efficiently than government can … except for BummerCare and the add-on taxes, tithes and tributes.
In order for that to happen, you have to have a situation where Doctors don’t benefit from offering patients the most expensive treatments.
Its in a doctor’s best interest to push the more expensive treatments which will benefit their bottom line.
If I’m a doctor and I know by offering the more expensive surgery I can make more money than if I offer prescription drugs (or tell them to just eat a healthier diet and exercise more), which do you think I’ll offer?
Patients trust their doctor’s and usually don’t know enough about medicine to ask for cheaper alternatives, this results in higher medical costs, which the insurance companies push onto consumers.

And to pay the associated taxes to support an interfering government.
BTW: That doctor who overcharges for services will not be taking home too much in the way of additional profits as competing doctors will get some of his business, either at a lower cost to the patient or with better service or both.
Not likely, as the supply of doctors is lower than the demand for medical services (as there is a license required to be a doc, the supply is limited).
So any decent doctor will be able to find enough patients to go home with a fat wallet even if they gouge.
The free market does not work for healthcare unless you are willing to let people who cannot pay die. The demand for healthcare is inelastic. People who need healthcare have no options. Further, there is oligopoly power involved in the health care market. The AMA must approve new Medical Schools and the licensure of doctors. They have always controlled the number of doctors.
The bottom line is the individual has no market power in the healthcare arena. Doctors who overcharge will still have all the patients they can handle, so long as payment is guaranteed by someone.
Everyone should have access to quality health care, and that will not happen in a free market system.
We probably have the most free market health care system in the first world, and the results fall well below the health care results of most of the other first world nations.

This is what happens when some folks confuse “healthcare” with “health care insurance”.
The free market does have options for people who can not pay for healthcare. One does not always have to pay in money, but can pay with barter or trade (as happened regularly during the Great Depression) for healthcare … And in the case of the doctors’ bills, many doctors operate under the strict Hippocratic Oath, to heal the sick and injured without regard to compensation. And I, who may be able to afford my own healthcare, do not mind paying extra to know that my neighbor is cared for even if he can not pay.
Health Care Insurance is an entirely different matter.
Too many folks there is no difference between healthcare and health care insurance … because the g’ment/media/”progressive” Fascists have brainwashed the Helots into believing everyone “needs” the insurance in order to get the care. (Something akin to the “no-fault” auto insurance that is seemingly “required” to drive a car.)
If the doctors say they will not take barter or trade, only money, then you cannot barter or trade.
And Doctor’s may operate under the oath, but if the patient refuses to pay the bill, guess who gets stuck with the cost?
That’s right, the people who do pay.
And costs rise.
This is where government can step in and play a role.
Then find another doctor.
Then find another government.
If the next doctor says the same thing, and you don’t know that much about medicine, why would you question it?

Consider the Nazis, consider the Italian Fascists, consider South Africa recently … One might also include considering the Plymouth Rock Pilgrims, who had a mortally rate greater than 50% until the Indians converted them to basic capitalism and family farming. (That’s right: more than half of the Pilgrims died of disease and starvation during the first year because they insisted on communal farming, communal living and communal health care.)
