“LOW RISK” NOSEBLEED SPARKS OUTBREAK OF FEAR …

By FITSNEWS || A United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C. has been grounded in Columbia, S.C. due to an Ebola scare.

Yes … you read that right.  There’s a plane on the tarmac at Columbia Metropolitan Airport that was diverted due to a passenger experiencing a nosebleed.

According to an airline spokesman, the passenger is in the process of being removed from the plane as a precautionary measure given that nosebleeds are an advance symptom of the deadly West African virus that has killed 10,000 people worldwide since December 2013.

Great … what could possibly go wrong in this situation?

Everyone around the situation is using the term “low risk,” so … make of that what you will.  But the scare is front page news on all the Midlands, S.C. news outlets.

The Palmetto State’s preparation for the Ebola crisis has been managed by S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and its director Catherine Templeton.  We’ve written a pair of stories on her efforts (HERE and HERE).  Templeton’s agency is reportedly monitoring the situation, as is the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) – the agency which vowed to “stop Ebola in its tracks” when the first positive U.S. case was reported in Texas earlier this month.

Yeah … that didn’t so much happen.

The South Carolina Ebola scare comes a day after Craig Spencer, a doctor who recently traveled to West Africa, tested positive for the virus in New York City.

RAPID REACTION

UPDATE: FALSE ALARM.

Wait, we are freaking out because of a nose bleed from a guy who was apparently never in West Africa. Lots of flights from the NE stop in SC in case of medical emergencies because of location, there was a story a couple months ago the CHS was increasing overnight staff because it was such a frequent occurrence.

Nobody gets a nosebleed from being in high altitudes, clearly it has to be Ebola. The FEMA death camps are coming! The FEMA death camps are coming!

If we don’t take precautions when we vote, that could be the case. What will happen if SC has 1000 Ebola cases after the election. Obama will quarantine the state and there will be no way to get medical care. It will be just like Liberia. This plan in in the works now.

“This plan in in the works now.”
The plan has been in the works for some 47 years my friend – it all started when President Obama’s parents paid those Hawaii newspapers to publish those fake birth announcements so he would have some cover for his actual Kenyan birth when he ran for President so he could then unleash the Ebola virus on the country . . .

I don’t understand why you keep saying that the CDC did not stop the Dallas outbreak When Duncan was diagnosed the CDC said, we know how to control this, we will stop this here. That is exactly what happened. The disease has not spread beyond the Dallas Hospital and everyone except Duncan is recovering. If there are no new cases from the flight by the nurse in the next 5 days, the Texas outbreak will be over and will have been totally contained.

seriously?!? October 24, 2014 at 1:26 pm

Other than the hospital a and the guy home, one maybe two nurses getting ebloa and then traveling by airplane to Cleveland. I think it is safe to say that because Ebola is highly infectious, but thankfully not highly contagious, the spread has been limited thus far inspire of a ‘how to/worst practices guide’ on containment from the CDC and not because of anything them.

Tom October 24, 2014 at 1:36 pm

Look, the nurse flying was a mistake. She was not symptomatic during the first flight. She had a slight fever during the second flight. The protocol at the time was that the virus was not contagious unless your temperature exceeded 100 degrees, which hers did not. That was revised later, and the CDC admitted she should not have been cleared to make the second flight.

Nonetheless, in 5 days the maximum incubation period from anyone making that flight will have passed. If there are no cases from that contact, the CDC will have contained the virus to the Dallas Hospital . It did not spread. They never said they could prevent future outbreaks, only that they could contain outbreaks.

This was not a horrible first run. No one who contracted the disease in the US has died.

Tom, again, agree to disagree, essentially so long as the disease doesn’t spread that’s a CDC win, that much I’ll say. Whether or not that’s because of the CDC men, staunchly disagree.

Now, albeit after a few horses have gotten out of the barn, we would close the barn door on travel from West African countries where this is a problem. We don’t need it here. The economies of those countries are FUBAR, always have been, and always will be. Frankly, I don’t give a shit. Cut off travel from those places or from anyone who has ties to those places unless they have undergone a four week quarantine. If they are unwilling to do that, let them stay there.
