WTH is going on in Africa. No one here is catching it (very few). Is everyone overthere grabbing there ankles?
Anyone heard from 9″. We need to run some tests.
One of the theories floating around is that the only ones catching it are people who received a certain vaccine. I forget if it is a recent flu vaccine or something else. Hmmmm…
The smart people are the ones catching it now. There’s only around 24 hospital beds in the entire US capable of providing top notch treatment for ebola patients. That means, if you catch it now, you’ve got a pretty good chance of being transported to one of those rooms, surviving the disease, and being immune from it in the future. Literally every person treated in those 24 beds has survived.
So, if the disease spreads beyond 24 people, you’re going to get treated for Ebola in a regular US hospital. Ask Thomas Duncan how that turned out. Yes, the better bet is to catch the disease now, become immune, then sit back while everyone else receives the Thomas Duncan treatment.

It’s amusing that the powers that be keep screaming NOBODY PANIC as if the only thing standing between us and roving hordes of gun wielding anti-ebola gangs murdering people for looking like they have ebola is their breathless exhortations not to panic.
On the one hand, we have a very real threat of a contagious disease infecting people who have been in contact with those that have the disease, on the other, we have an irrational fear of an Ebola panic that is based on nothing other than Mad Max and the imagination of the anti-ebola panic crowd. Yet, all I keep hearing is that nobody should panic. It’s pretty evident that our government’s focus is misdirected.

Ebola’s 70% death rate makes it slightly less deadly than riding the subway.
I never would wish anything upon anyone like this, but why would this guy knowingly fly from treating patients in West Africa into the US with quarantining himself upon arrival. He as a doctor should have known that symptoms can take up to 21 days to present and should have been prepared to be quarantined for 21 days. I blame the doctor/patient on this one and I feel bad for saying it.

It should be an automatic quarantine for those American citizens involved with treatment, who have returned to the USA. This incident is perfect proof that we can not trust entities in government to protect the masses. They are incompetent and worthless. They are the reason this thing will spread in the USA.

It is inexplicable that he was not self-quarantining. It’s just common sense. If a doctor (s) will not self-quarantine, then it is obvious that a mandatory, supervised quarantine is necessary. In fairness, we have a CDC director saying you can’t catch Ebola on a bus, but if you have ebola, you shouldn’t ride a bus because you might give it to someone on the bus. Therefore, it’s highly possible that whatever the administration said on contracting Ebola was completely incomprehensible.

The odds of your dying in a car accident on the way home from work are many times the odds of your even coming in contact with anyone who has ever had Ebola; the odds you will die within the next few years from some form of cancer are significantly higher than the odds you will ever encounter a person with Ebola. In fact the odds you will die from a mutated flu strain are higher than the odds you will die from Ebola. So no one is totally safe from anything.
So why don’t you just quarantine yourself in your house and make yourself safe. Except, the odds you will die in a house fire are higher than the odds you will die from Ebola.

Apparently Duncan was further in the progression of the virus when he arrived. The key to this seems to be catching it early and keeping the patient alive long enough for the body and or experimental drugs to work. Duncan wasven an experimental serum but it was too late. Fluids, and keeping the diarrhea under control seem to be a big part of the cure.
