ETHICS REFORMER RECEIVES SUPPORT …
By FITSNEWS || Disappointed by a recent round of negative attacks from their own party’s nominee, Democrats in the Midlands region of South Carolina are rallying behind the candidacy of S.C. Rep. Kirkman Finlay – one of the few GOP lawmakers who has “walked the walk” on the issue of ethics reform.
In fact longtime Finlay ally Damon Jeter – a Richland County, S.C. councilman – is organizing a “Democrats for Finlay” effort that will culminate with a fish fry event this weekend.
Joining Jeter at the event is retired judge Mildred Weathers McDuffie and a pair of influential black pastors – Randall “Mack” Jackson and J.P. Neal.
These Democrats are all supporting Finlay because of his work on ethics reform – and his community outreach efforts.
McDuffie, incidentally, is a longtime friend of Finlay’s opponent – trial lawyer Joe McCulloch. In fact McCulloch’s wife recently described McDuffie as the couple’s “favorite judge.”
Other McCulloch friends have offered up kind words for Finlay. Take former Columbia, S.C. mayor (and current State House lobbyist) Bob Coble – who worked with Finlay when the latter was a member of Columbia City Council.
“He’s very smart and does his homework – always has,” Coble told FITS. “I also think he’s been focusing more than when he was on city council – zeroing in on specific issues that matter.”
“He certainly reaches out and is much more willing to listen,” Coble added.
Coble made clear he wasn’t endorsing Finlay – and that McCulloch was a “lifelong friend.”
This website has been turned off by the lies and distortions emanating from the McCulloch camp. Looks like we’re not the only ones …
For anyone interested in attending, the “Democrats for Finlay” fish fry will be held this Saturday (October 25) between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. EDT at Rosewood Park in downtown Columbia, S.C. (901 S. Holly Street).

Ha ha ha ha. You mean that ethics reform work where he introduced bills to give Bobby Harrell a pass? That same Bobby Harrell that will plead guilty today…..
Like I said, the bearded one must be scared. I bet they get less than 50 people from within the district at the fish fry, and most will be there for the free catfish and beer.
Keep drinking that Joe-Joe Juice.
Someone or whoever should distribute Finlay’s bill at the fish fry & have him explain his version of (de-formed) ethics.
Wait, isn’t it illegal for a registered lobbyist to host a fundraiser??? Again, questionable ethics with this guy!
Nothing is illegal in SC for our politicians, where you been ?
Damon Jeter is a registered lobbyist. His sponsorship of this event is a violation of Ethics laws. To the statute we go:
A lobbyist or a person acting on behalf of a lobbyist shall not offer, solicit, facilitate, or provide to or on behalf of any member of the General Assembly, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, any other statewide constitutional officer, any public official of any state agency who engaged in covered agency actions, or any of their employees any of the following:
lodging
transportation
entertainment
food, meals, beverages, money, or any other thing of value
contributions
But hey, Kirkman Finlay is an “ethics reformer,” right?
Kirkman Finley owes his entire inheritance to the descendants of Wade Hampton’s slaves and Will thinks we should pat him on the back for giving a few poor black kids some backpacks and hot dogs? SMH.
Reparations now!
I don’t agree with reparations generally but if ever there were a case for them then Wade Hampton’s heirs should pay.
I’m officially apolitical, but I could definitely rally behind that stud.I think naysayers are jealous because,KF is so damn fine.

“I could definitely rally behind that stud”
lulz…I have no doubt you could.
Get in line.We be pulling train!
Kirkman must be paying FITS good money for him to write this much. Anyone else think it’s pretty desperate for a sitting legislator to have to pay for this much favorable press….on a blog?
That is what fellow Democrats do for their own. Where is the News Here?
