South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson released the following statement:
“In the public interest, this matter has confirmed that no one in South Carolina is above the law. I’d like to thank Solicitor David Pascoe for agreeing to accept the designation by this office as prosecutor in the matter of South Carolina vs. Bobby Harrell.
“In keeping with the policy of this office, we have no comment on the specifics of the plea agreement Solicitor Pascoe has negotiated with Mr. Harrell. We took no part in those negotiations and were not consulted on the terms. When our office designates a solicitor to manage a case, our routine policy is to trust the solicitor’s judgment. This case was no exception.
“Going forward, as South Carolina’s chief prosecutor, if there is any reason to believe that Mr. Harrell is not honoring the terms of the plea agreement, this office will forward relevant information to Solicitor Pascoe for further action.”

Wilson has to cover his ass with this extremely light punishment.
Damage control. The citizens are in an uproar about the surprisingly extremely light sentence for serious act of fraud and serious theft of large amounts of money. So Wilson points the finger at Pascoe now, huh. Interesting.
Hey, don’t blame me. Blame Pascoe. What a weenie. How could you guys have allowed that crook to walk out of court with a wrist slap and tell the public he had done nothing wrong. He is essentially accusing the prosecutor of coercing a false confession. He is acting as though he is the victim here. What a load of crap.
Ok Alan, what about the Lexington Crime Ring, and assorted Richland/Columbia Rings of similar type? When are you going to show us that they are not above the law, too? Or could it be that in your world, some of them ARE above the law?
FWIW people, it appears that Alan DOES have a challenger in November. Yeah, his chances aren’t great, but he IS an option and he will get my vote.

The People of South Carolina have been sold out by Alan Wilson and David Pascoe. You should hear the anger tonight at the dining establishments, the bars, the mall, in homes. Tomorrow it gets blasted all over the state just how corrupt the justice system really it. It will go on non-stop for weeks on end. Every radio talk show, editorials, bloggers, everywhere. The peasants are seeing just how screwed up South Carolina really is. Harrell got off with just a ‘tap’ to the back of the hand. This is not justice. It is part of the deep rooted lawlessness in SC politics and its court system.
I cannot believe Pascoe did not even thank General Wilson during the court hearing. He thanked everyone except Wilson. Unbelievable. Perhaps Pascoe -a Democrat – and is considering a run for AG in 4 years and woudln’t want to give Alan – a formidable opponent – any credit. Or, Pascoe has a Napoleon complex. It’s likely a combination of the two. Wilson showed courage, leadership and tenacity in fighting public corruption. Shame on you, Pascoe! And you got a piss poor sentence, too. Perhaps if you consulted Alan, this would have come out better.
Wilson was in the hot seat and had to do something. He worried how that might impact his bid for re-election if he didn’t do “something”. Interestingly enough, he is still pretty much “hands-off” with regard to his dad’s pals in the Lexington Crime Ring or their counterparts/associates in the various Richland/Columbia rings.
Wilson is a weenie. That should be his campaign slogan.
The sentence includes his squealing on the participants in the vote swapping investigation. This investigation may include votes gathered to keep Jean Toal in her seat as chief justice and the black caucus. Harrell has been warned should he not be cooperative his probation can be revoked and four other charges that were not brought could be reactivated.
Another positive is that Harrell’s brother, who was on the selection committee of judges, has since resigned.
So while the sentence may seem light his star will be even further tarnished when he starts ratting out his former colleagues.
What a tool.
