POWERFUL SPEAKER WILL GIVE UP HIS POST AS PART OF PLEA DEAL

By FITSNEWS || Suspended S.C. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell – one of the most powerful politicians the Palmetto State has seen in recent memory – will plead guilty to corruption charges and resign his office tomorrow (October 23), sources familiar with his thinking tell FITS.

“It’s time for him for him to move on – to put this behind him,” the source said. “He and his family have been dealing with this for two years.  He’s ready to be done with it and get on with his life.  Whatever the next phase is, he’s ready to get on with that.”

It’s not clear what Harrell’s punishment will be, but it is clear that he will have to give up his office – and withdraw as a candidate in the November 4 election.

Harrell will also be prohibited from seeking office for the duration of his penalty – a punishment reportedly insisted upon by solicitor David Pascoe.

The Lowcountry legislative leader – who has run the S.C. House of Representatives for the last decade – was indicted last month on nine counts of public corruption, prompting the powerful legislative leader to suspend himself from office the following day.

The case was initiated by a complaint from the S.C. Policy Council, a limited government think tank in Columbia, S.C.

“If the reports are accurate that the Speaker intends to resign and plead guilty to some of the charges, then this is a start,” Ashley Landess, president of the S.C. Policy Council told FITS. “Frankly, our expectation is that there is more to come.”

Landess is referring to an ongoing federal-state corruption investigation that was exclusively reported on by FITS last month.

“Our goal was to force the system to work – to hold the most powerful lawmakers in state government accountable,” Landess added. “But the system didn’t work on its own – we had to push it, and force it to work.”

One staunch Harrell ally blasted the case against the Speaker as “selective prosecution.”

NIKKI HALEY
NIKKI HALEY

Even Harrell enemies – while pleased with his decision to step down – expressed amazement that the powerful Speaker would be brought down on charges that were nowhere near as serious (or at the very lease, were comparable) to the charges leveled against S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley two years ago.

“She lobbied members of the House for her employers – including one paying her under the table,” one House member told FITS.  “He filled out reimbursement forms wrong.  But she stays and he goes?  I don’t get it.”

Obviously we believe Harrell’s crimes amount to much more than simply “filling out reimbursement forms wrong,” but still … there is a credible case to be made for selective prosecution as it relates to the way Harrell and Haley were treated.

For example, the allegations against Haley never saw a public court – instead they were whitewashed by a corrupt committee of her former “Republican” colleagues in the S.C. House of Representatives.

How is that fair?

Again, we’re not saying Harrell didn’t deserve to go down – in fact we called on him to resign last February.

But as we’ve repeatedly pointed out, Haley has done far worse than Harrell – and gotten away with it.

The governor was accused of multiple abuses of power during her six years as a member of the S.C. House of Representatives. Specifically, she was accused of illegally lobbying on behalf of Lexington Medical Center, her former employer from 2008-10. Haley was also accused of illegally lobbying on behalf of Wilbur Smith Associates – an engineering firm with extensive business before the state – and failing to report nearly $50,000 in income received from the company between 2007-09.

In fact FITS has spoken with several lawmakers who said they were willing to sign affidavits attesting to Haley’s illegal lobbying – but were never asked to do so by the S.C. House “Ethics” Committee.

Oh, and in addition to her own ethics issues … Haley (like Harrell) has some issues with political action committees working on her behalf.  Specifically, we’re referring to “The Movement Fund,” a group which has run political ads on her behalf – while paying big bucks to members of the governor’s campaign organization.

If there is any way for Charleston County Republican Party to cheat a candidate into this office, they certainly will do so. They cheated Paul Thurmond into office even though he has also participated in criminal schemes while in Charleston County Council w/ Elliott Summey. Charleston Republicans believe they have the right to criminally rule us because they believe they are direct descendants of Lord Jesus Christ.

Reply
Paul Thurmond belongs in jail October 23, 2014 at 1:16 am

Yo. Thurmond collected $100,000 in “consulting fees” representing the distressed near-bankrupt seller of swampland called “Bulow Tract” to Charleston County Parks & Recreation Commission — after strong-arming them with Summey’s help — into buying this property that was overpriced by $2 million.

CCPRC did not want to buy the land, calling it “mosquito laden” and “of no interest to the public.”

Councilman Dickie Schweers for instance said he got strong-armed by Thurmond and hung up on the bastard, voting against the scam.

Thurmond did this “consulting” six months after leaving Council and DID NOT INFORM COUNCILPEOPLE THAT HE REPRESENTED THE SELLER — OR HIS $100,000 UNDER-THE-TABLE “CONSULTING FEE.”

Takeaway: Charleston County residents got butt-fucked into buying a mosquito swamp that NOBODY VISITS and pocketed a $100,000 fee. Paul Thurmond is as corrupt as his father Sperm was racist.

Hopefully. Her main platform is ethics reform in the legislature, including abolishing the House and Senate Ethics Committees and turning responsibility of malfeasance by those crooks to a strengthened State Ethics Commission. I hear that she’ll be primary sponsor of such legislation or will support a similar bill introduced by another reform-minded legislator. This is legislation Ashley Landess and the SCPRC have been proposing for six years, and opposed by Harrell for six years. Harrell’s guilty plea, and others to come, will help usher in reform. Thanks be to God.

In memory of my Dad (career Army and top recruiter in the US), one of his favorites—-
————–
During the draft things were so hectic at Ft. Jackson that to speed things along new procedures had to be implemented. During the physical a doctor looks in one ear, another
doctor looks in the other, and if they can’t see each other you’re in the Army. If they can see each other, you’re sent to Parris Island.

Deo Vindice SC October 22, 2014 at 10:25 pm

I got ya, why ? live shifty .

shifty henry October 23, 2014 at 12:08 am

While I may joke around, I have always had great respect for our US Marines. My Dad wanted me to join the Army because at the time he promised me that after advanced training he
would get me transferred back to Ft. Jackson for my last two years and I could live at home. But I had never been away from home and wanted something else. My first choice was Parris Island but I passed on that because I did not want to fail and embarrass my Dad. I was a 100 pound, non-athletic guy and didn’t think I could survive that boot camp hell. The Air Force would not guarantee a school, but the Navy was glad to have me! So there I spent four great years that I will never regret.

One of my best stories was at an
abandoned pilot training base in Florida and which had been renovated for a new
school. By presidential directive the “fat”
was to be eliminated from the military to “improve our fighting ability.” We did this by a twice weekly run around the air strip which was 3 ½ miles around. We Navy guys were required to only lap it once around each day.

The small Marine group was led by a Gunnery Sergeant who (and this is the honest truth) looked exactly like Clint Eastwood did later in “Heartbreak Ridge.” He also had a limp, but no one could beat him on their first run individually. But on their 2nd run immediately after with no rest (you better believe it)each Marine had to carry a buddy until he dropped and then he was carried, andso forth. We were impressed and glad thatwe only had to go around once each time.

Every duty station to which I was assigned had some great guys, especially at our Embassy The Marines attached to our Embassy were the
best. They were sharp, impressive and represented the best image of the US.

shifty henry October 22, 2014 at 9:57 pm

During the invasion
of Sicily one of the boats carrying 33 Marines was heading for the beach. It was extremely
dark and storming furiously and the sea was tossing them about. Finally, the Commander
grabbed Corporal Peters and stationed him at
the front of the boat with a lantern. He ordered him to keep swinging it, so
they could see where they were heading.

Corporal Peters, through driving rain and cold, continued swinging the lantern
back and forth, back and forth. Then a big gust of wind and a wave hit and
threw Corporal Peters and his lantern into the sea. The Commander and
his troops searched for nearly an hour trying to find Corporal Peters, but to
no avail. All of them felt terrible, for the Corporal had been one of their bravest
buddies.

Sometime later, the Commander and his troops landed on the beach, wet and
totally exhausted. He rallied the troops and told them that they must go on.
Another hour later, one of his men said, “Sir, I see lights ahead.” They
trudged toward the lights and came upon a huge house.

What they didn’t know was that this was a house of ill repute, hidden in the
forest to serve all who came. The Commander pounded on the door, his
men crowding around him. The door swung open and much to his surprise
stood a beautiful woman. A huge smile came across her face, to see so
many men standing there. The Commander was the first to speak, “Madam, I
am the Commander of these courageous Marines. We are tired, wet, exhausted, and desperately in
need of warmth and comfort.”

Again, the Madam looked at all the men standing there, and with a broad smile
on her face, said, “Well, Commander, you have come to the right place. We can
surely give you warmth and comfort. How many men do you have?”

The Commander replied, “Well, madam, there are 32 of us, without Peters.” And the Madam

said, “You gotta’ be shittin’ me.”

Something is brewing. McMaster jumping in to be Lt Gov late March 2014 is certainly forboding. I can imagine our smart lawyers in our fair State talk, and talk, and nothing much is left to chance. Same goes for Prosecutors or investigators whether State or Federal. Humans do that kind of stuff (see human nature). For example, even if it takes a few years to pass a few laws, then run a few test cases before going after the intended Target, so be it. In this context, McMaster must have gleaned an upcoming opening in the Governor’s office way back in March from “sources” close to the Harrell investigations. Therefore, I say Harrell is pleading guilty to soften the looming Federal indictment regarding vote buying for Toal’s reelection. I also predict, based on Rainey’s renewed interest in having Haley own up to her alleged ethics violations, a criminal investigation against Haley based on Harrell vs Wilson.

It is called ” Republican Stew ” In my way of viewing it, it a freakshow to vindicate wayward republicans. As Sandi tells us, Nikki WILL be the governor again.

Is it true Haley’s campaign theme song is “The Bitch is Back”? Too bad nobody got behind Haley’s Lexington Medical Center and Wilbur Smith “jobs.” Oh wait. . . .there’s supposedly a confidentiality agreement in place with Lex Medical Center so they can’t talk about their settlement. Could ask Thad Westbrook the chairman of the foundation at Lex Medical who knows the dirt but. . .oh wait. . . he was appointed by Haley to the USC board with the free seats and perks. Stop the lies and the deceptions. Haley needs to GO!

Glenn McConnell is a hundred times more the criminal than anyone in SC in recent history. McConnell is probably in bed w/ Satan. Guilty pleas from Harrell should get maximum fines & prison time unless he gives over for prosecution more elite criminals than himself.

So anonymous people are willing to sign affidavits accusing Haley of wrong doing. WHY DON’T THEY DO IT?

I state anonymously that am willing to sign an affidavit stating that Will Folks performed fellatio on T-Rav. I guess that’s proof positive. The issue of the Folks T-Rav relationship is settled.

One of the biggest stories in this state this year and fits chooses half of the article to instead beat a dead horse. Harrell’s name is used 10 times in this article with absolutely no new information about her Haley’s name is used eight times.

God created houseflies, cockroaches, maggots, mosquitos, fleas, ticks, slugs, leeches, and intestinal parasites, then he lowered his standards and made you. I take it back; God didn’t make you. Fits False Allegation # 145 October 23, 2014 at 7:06 am

Child molestation theme by Fits against Haley failed and increased her lead.
The natural evolution by the obsessed one is to allege Haley is guilty of corruption and should be indicted. Removed from office.I look for her poll numbers to rise again. 54%-55%.
“anonymous” people tell me the bizzaro, conspiratorial agenda driven Fits will allege that Haley was with the “gentle giant” in Ferguson, MO when he stole the box of cigars and assaulted the store clerk.

She’s the one who got all this started with her “they all do it” defense that scared off the House ‘Ethics’ Committee.
Alan Wilson and the state’s judiciary didn’t have the balls to deal with her like they have dealt with Harrell. Let’s hope that comes back to bite them on the ass.

In 2012, when former Lt. Gov. Ken Ard pleaded guilty to using campaign contributions for his personal use, he resigned his post as part of the plea negotiations. Ard got five years’ probation, a $5,000 fine and 300 hours of community service.
Since then, it is rumored that Ard has only had to report in person to his probation officer but 2 or 3 time, never submitted to the probation department a urine sample for drug testing, and community service records have been fabricated.

House
Speaker Bobby Harrell plans guilty plea, resignation Thursday

It was
not immediately clear whether Harrell would plead guilty to all or some of the
nine misdemeanor charges he faces, or what specific agreement he has worked out
with 1st Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe.

The
move could spell turmoil for Republicans days before November’s election, as
well as mark a troubled end to Harrell’s decades-long career. Harrell was first
elected in 1993 and gained the speaker’s position – perhaps the most powerful
in South Carolina’s government – in 2005.

Harrell
was released on bond in late September after facing allegations that he
doctored flight records, reimbursed himself for flights that he didn’t take and
unlawfully paid himself tens of thousands of dollars from his campaign account.

The
resolution of Harrell’s case may be just the beginning for the Legislature, as
state and federal authorities are investigating members for allegations of
similar misdeeds, sources have told the Post and Courier. It is unclear where
the investigations stand.

In my opinion, there is likely way more to this than ” a few reimbursement forms”. He fought like a cornered rabid dog when Wilson started the process and ended up in the hospital. Not the behavior of a person being charged with fudging the numbers a bit. Lots to lose and he knew it. Good f’ing riddance. I won’t start about the legitimacy of his appointment of unqualified people to State positions. Sounds like our Governor. Just wish we had someone better to choose from. Another four years. Geez……
