PALMETTO REPUBLICAN LEADER BLASTS CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE FOR COMMENTS

By FITSNEWS || South Carolina “Republican” Party chairman Matt Moore is drawing praise from the libertarian wing of his organization after publicly rebuking anti-gay comments made recently by one of the Palmetto State’s GOP congressional candidates.

Last week “Republican” sixth congressional district candidate Anthony Culler referred to homosexual couples as “Gremlins” – a reference to the scaly, reptilian monsters in the 1984 horror movie.

“Same-sex couples that seek to destroy our way of life and the institution of marriage are NOT cute and cuddly but rather (for those of you that are old enough to remember the movie), Gremlins that will only destroy our way of life,” Culler said.

He went on to describe same sex couples as “bullies,” a “pestilence” and a “scourge on society.”

“Look away from this scourge on society and condemn it,” Culler continued. “Starve it out and actively stand against this movement and those pushing it.  Seek the dismissal of all those in the judiciary and legislature that support and seek to legalize same-sex ‘marriage.’ Stand against this and we will reverse it and drive it back into the darkness.”

Not long after Culler’s comments became public, we wrote a post highlighting how his views were not being called out by the GOP – which wasn’t surprising given same sex marriage is explicitly rebuked by both the state and national GOP platforms.

“Our party believes in the conservative definition of marriage, but we also believe in loving our neighbors and treating them with respect,” Moore told Maya Rhodan of Time. “Mr. Culler’s desperate, attention-seeking antics in no way represent the good, decent South Carolinians I’ve met across our state.”

In a separate interview with The Hill – a Beltway insider publication – Moore offered up similar language.

“Our party platform strongly supports traditional marriage and that won’t change in South Carolina over the next two years, but it’s important that we treat people with respect and offer solutions on a variety of different fronts,” Moore told reporter Peter Sullivan.

Interesting …

First off, lets dispense with the obvious: Culler is a fringe candidate running in a seat the GOP will never win in a million years.  So Moore is taking a limited risk in calling him out.  Of course according to recent polls, a majority of South Carolinians – including a healthy majority of South Carolina GOP voters – still support a government ban on gay marriage.

So Moore is taking a calculated risk in criticizing a candidate who is outspoken in support of such a ban … which oh by the way the state’s “Republican” governor and attorney general are still fighting to uphold in court.

Moore’s remarks drew praise from Daniel Encarnacion, a libertarian leaning GOP activist who previously challenged Culler to apologize – saying he would mount a write-in campaign for the sixth district seat in the event such an apology wasn’t forthcoming.

“Thank you to State GOP Chairman Matt Moore for also fighting for reasoned and respectful debate and dialogue and calling Anthony Culler to account,” Encarnacion said.

For his part, Culler is refusing to back down – posting a lengthy video to his Facebook page reaffirming his comments.

He also accused Moore of throwing him “under the bus” due to his “Christian and conservative beliefs.”

This website has always affirmed gay rights – including the right to marry.  However we don’t believe marriage is a government institution, arguing it should be left up to individual congregations which are held accountable by their parishioners, denominations and ultimately, their God.  Accordingly, we emphatically support the right of churches to refuse to marry any couple – gay or straight – as they see fit.

The funny thing is Nikki would never have anything to do with you in public. You would be rebuked, just like the dipshit in the article. Cheers!

Anthony Culler is going to lose, we know that. He doth protest too much…he has that “Gay Boy Southern Twang” to his voice. Just the way the SCPD likes it. Also, have you repudiated that pedophile associated with your blog? Could be trouble for you.

Times sure have changed. This kind of anti-gay speech would have been mainstream in the GOP 10 years ago. Now if we can just get to this new happy place with other issues like climate change, worker’s rights, universal health care, and campaign finance reform.

“Compassionate conservatives” sure can’t help themselves when it comes to comparing gay couples to dog fuckers.

Tom October 22, 2014 at 11:02 am

Larry, just as I don’t care that you fuck that goat in the back of your barn, when your toothless wife won’t put out.

By the way I am not gay, if that is what you mean by pervert. And I think hate mongers like you and culler are the perverts our society needs to worry about. A bunch of ill bred, uneducated rednecks who want to destroy anything and anyone that doesn’t fit precisely in their version of America. Which would be a hell hole.

One day you backwoods rednecks will actually all die out. Not that I will live to see it. But the Republican Leadership turning on you must have really stung. But don’t worry. They didn’t really mean it. They just wanted votes.

I’m sorry, did i use any words that were too big for you?

Just a question. You say you and Wallace are “buddy’s” yet you slander Mark Kelley on Fits?

You do know that Kelley and friends created Wallace’s political life in a bar he used to own called Shamrocks? I would assume they are still good friends?

Interesting.

Buz Martin October 22, 2014 at 8:50 pm

You don’t have friends who don’t like each other?

I did not slander Kelley. I don’t know whether or not he was directly involved in the transfer of money from Brad Dean to Gresham Barrett. Weirdly enough, David Wren said he was not, yet he got sued, as though he had said the opposite. Therefore I believe the suit was for the purpose of shutting Wren up about everything. Kelley was the guy chosen to do it. Which STILL does not mean he was involved in criminal activity. Just that some of his friends were. And I don’t believe that Randal was among them.

If this is all too taxing on your widdle brain, well … tough shit!

What are ya gals holding out for? Legalizing partial-birth abortion and infanticide? Don’t be disappointed with legalized perverted marriage drops the abortion rate.

You and the Democrat Party will just have to be more creative…

SC Political Digest October 21, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Good point ben g. The less intelligent “women” who vote for abortion Democrats have been convinced slaughtering little babies — that they are trusted by God to protect—is the advancement of womanhood.

Liberal (Clinton-esque) men use them up, while knocking them up—then let women F*#k their heads up, by ripping the life from their wombs. Classy bunch, those liberals. Real women lovers, for sure.

ben g. October 21, 2014 at 8:39 pm

Mother Teresa once said “if a mother can kill her own child, what can be next?”

Jan October 22, 2014 at 10:36 am

I don’t need to debate you on Abortion. That issue is set in the minds of everyone, and no one is going to change their mind at this point. We all have opinions as to when an abortion should or should not be allowed, and mine is most likely not what you think.

That said women understand that Republicans have fought women on equal pay, have fought women on family leave, have fought women on the need for a higher minimum wage ( as women are far more likely to be rearing a child alone than an man and far more likely to be stuck in working multiple minimum wage jobs) have fought women on the equal rights amendment, and even fought giving women the vote.

Women understand that the Republican Party is currently dominated by social conservatives who believe women belong in the home supporting their husband and his career.

Women understand that the Republican party wants to end Social Security and Medicare, two programs which women rely on heavily in retirement. Especially those who have stayed home to take care of their children, and may be left will little or nothing to live on in the event of divorce or the death of their spouse.

The Republican Party can continue to stand on, “yea we haven’t done anything for women, but we are anti-abortion, so vote for us” if they want to, but most women are not one issue voters.

“If men could get pregnant, abortion clinics would be like Starbuck’s. There would be 2 on every block & 4 in every airport — and the morning after pill would come in different flavors like sea salt & cool ranch.” SNL

Obama is losing women in droves, because he failed them, like I said he would. He failed ALL Americans, and I knew he would. The election – or presidency- was about about him, his selfishness and the special interest hate squads…

PS: The GOP will control Congress after Nov. 4, even w/ a 21% approval rating. Only the idiots have not figured out that Congressional Approval Rating number is meaningless….Control, and BLOCKING Obama is what it’s all about…and w/ the Senate, there will be more rejecting of Obama and his hateful, hurtful and stupid polices. (;

Smirks October 22, 2014 at 9:11 am

If the Religious Right’s arguments have taught me anything, it’s that gays are dogs/horses/children/mentally handicapped/psychotic/sexual deviants/perverts who hate god and simply want to ruin marriage for straight people. But you can’t call them backwards-thinking, closed-minded bigots because they’re just following their religion, so that makes saying outright offensive tripe absolutely A-OK.
