FORMER HEISMAN TROPHY STAR MAKING AN APPEARANCE PRIOR TO FURMAN GAME …
By FITSNEWS || Two months ago the University of South Carolina football team was ranked No. 9 in the nation … and head coach Steve Spurrier was running his mouth like the Gamecocks were going to be legitimate contenders for the national championship.
Oops …
In the intervening weeks, South Carolina (3-3, 2-3 SEC) has come crashing down to earth in the most violently disappointing way possible – with this weekend’s showdown against in-state FCS rival Furman looking like one of the only “sure things” left on the 2014 schedule.
Of course the rapid decline of the Gamecocks’ on-field product gives us an excuse to look off-field … in this case to the Bojangles restaurant right across the street from Williams-Brice Stadium in downtown Columbia, S.C.
There, according to the press release we’ve just been handed, former Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers will be greeting fans, posing for pictures and signing autographs from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday (October 18).
South Carolina’s all-time leading rusher, Rogers won the Heisman in 1980 and went on to be drafted No. 1 overall by the New Orleans Saints. He and All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (2014) are the only two Gamecocks to be taken with the top pick in the NFL draft.
Naturally, the chicken-fed public relations agency promoting Rogers’ appearance wants to make sure those who stop by know they “can also pick up an 8, 12 or 20 piece Tailgate Special featuring Bojangles’ delicious fried chicken, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits, Southern-style fixin’s and Legendary Iced Tea.”
Nice … the iced tea even appears to have its own registered trademark.
Anyway, the Williams-Brice Bojangles is located at 937 Bluff Road in Columbia if you want to stop by.
And for those of you keeping score at home … PR Firm 1, FITS 0.

Fits, I have never pulled a Tango/Big T/ or what ever the idiot wants to be called now before, but seriously what is the point of this article?
Is George still carrying that Heisman around in the trunk of his car? I bet $5 it will b at Bojangles with him…
It will be next to Clemson’s Heisman winner…. number one over all pick….. William Perry?
What does George carrying around that Heisman in his car have to do with Clemson?
I keep reading about the history Clemson fans keep bringing up, but only see USC fans doing it.
I find it very interesting that Sakerlina fans like to brag that Clemson never had a Heisman trophy winner. That’s very true. But, they had John Heisman, the very man that Sakerlina’s best player’s trophy was named to honor. So who trumps whom?
Are you talking to a guy that played college football at Brown and coached at 8 other schools other than the whole 3 years he was actually at Clemson as football coach? A. His claim to fame as the coach came from the years he was at Georgia Tech not Clemson, and B. his trophy recognizes the player not the coach, so since he didn’t play for Clemson they have no claim there. So the answer to the boy in powder blue would be Carolina trumps both you and Clemson but good try there
No, I wasn’t actually talking to the guy. He’s been dead for years. But, yes, the same guy. His Clemson team did beat GT 70-0 once. The trophy was named in his honor (hence the name “Heisman Trophy”) and is given to the “best” college player each year. I qualify “best” because I don’t know that it is always true. However, it is ALWAYS true that the trophy was named for John Heisman, and it is ALWAYS true that your best player ever recieved a trophy named for a former Clemson football coach. Yes, he coached at Clemson for only three years. George Rogers only won it for one year. On another note: I have met George Rogers. He is very personable and friendly, and a pleasure to be around. I saw him play at Sakerlina and there is no doubt the trophy went to the right man that year.
Did he give you a bump?
no, but Sammy gave him a bowl and a pill, then drove him through tatertown. Its odd though, Sammy didn’t even win the Heisman.
The trip to “tatertown” was so George could visit a spot to which he never had been. The end zone at Clemson’s stadium.
When will Sammy come to the end zone at Williams Brice?
Sammy was a Heisman winner?
exactly, he wasn’t good enough
A bump? No. I shook his hand though. He is really a nice guy!
George earned it fair and square. It was not even arguable in my opinion.
I completely agree. George was a man among boys that year.
I see why you Sakerlina fans hate history so much. It’s because you don’t know shit about it, or you only use what’s convenient for you. The real Carolina is Blue. Since 1789. Same argument you use with that west coast crowd that wants to call themselves USC. Good try there, cocky boy.
Hahaha. USC-E; Carolina, South; one and the same.
Question: Siri, who does USC play this weekend? Answer: Colorado at 6:00 PM.
Question: Who does Carolina play this weekend? Answer: Which team, Carolina Panthers or North Carolina?
Hahahahaha! Laugh my ass off!!
Question: Who does Clemson play this weekend? Answer: Boston College at 3:30 PM.
Question: Who do the Tigers play this weekend? Answer: Boston College at 3:30 PM
Funny my phone responded to “who the tigers play next” by showing me Detroit Tigers baseball last game they saying “the Tigers lost to Baltimore in game 3 of the ALDS on October 5, 2014”, and then said “I don’t know who they play next” (I have no preset teams FYI in my phone). I then asked it “who do the tigers play next in football” and it asked me which tigers? It then listed. LSU, Auburn, Grambling st, Tennessee st,, Princeton, Missouri, Clemson, Savannah st , Towson or Texas southern in that order. So your Tigers were just before Savannah St, Towson St., and Texas southern. I honestly would have only thought after Auburn and LSU, but now im the one laughing. Im guessing you have an iphone5 or older..
If God’s not a Tarheel then why is the sky Carolina Blue??
Too small to be a nation, too big to be an insane asylum.
That saying gets more truthful every single day!!!
It ain’t all about some dipshit football team Sandlappers
5 years from now nobody will give a shit about some dipshit football team (no matter what part of South Cackylacky it comes from)!!!!!
How much is yo autograffs bees? Naw, just one autograffs?
Will he be charging for photos, will he accept chicken?
Dats weetaaadid sir.
No, he’ll defer to Jameis Winston for the autograph charge.
Really. Has George learned to write?
Its a pathetic thing when some guy has to show up at a fried chicken joint to shill his trophy.
I don’t know what is more sad, George Rogers pimping his trophy from 30+ years ago or some pudgy caucasian dickhead paying him for his autograph.
I wouldn’t go over the sidewalk let alone the street to demean some poor schulb who is pimping his trophy from 30 years ago.
Just as well to buy a coke for some poor bear at a roadside zoo and watch him drink the coke and piss at the same time………………….Been there done that back in the early ’60’s!!!!!
Come to think of it, the bear probably had more pride than George Rogers!!!!!
