“WAIT ‘TIL NEXT YEAR …”
By FITSNEWS || Hold up … hadn’t the University of South Carolina football program shed its perpetual status as a “wait ’til next year” proposition?
Seriously … for the last four years (and five Clemson games), “this year” has looked pretty damn good. And on top of that we were led to believe “this year” (i.e. 2014) was going to be the best yet …
Obviously that didn’t happen. Preseason hype has given way to midseason misery … most of it thanks to a South Carolina defensive unit that surrendered more than 500 yards on Saturday against Open Date State University (ODSU).
Yeah …
That was (not unlike the Gamecock defense) a joke. And a bad one. But numbers don’t lie, and coordinator Lorenzo Ward‘s unit ranks next-to-last in the Southeastern Conference in rushing defense, next-to-last in passing defense and dead last in total defense.
You don’t become bowl eligible that way … let alone win championships.
Anyway, against the backdrop of recently rediscovered mediocrity, the Gamecocks (and their SEC counterparts) received their 2015 marching orders this week.
Take a look …
2015 UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
Sept. 3 (Thu.) – North Carolina (in Charlotte, N.C.)
Sept. 12 – KENTUCKY
Sept. 19 – @ Georgia
Sept. 26 – CENTRAL FLORIDA
Oct. 3 – @ Missouri
Oct. 10 – LSU
Oct. 17 – VANDERBILT
Oct. 24 – Open date
Oct. 31 – @ Texas A&M
Nov. 7 – @ Tennessee
Nov. 14 – FLORIDA
Nov. 21 – CITADEL
Nov. 28 – CLEMSON
Hmmmm …
That’s actually a pretty favorable schedule … assuming the Gamecocks get their act together during the offseason.
LSU – one of South Carolina’s two western conference opponents – appears to be on a downward trajectory. Meanwhile Texas A&M – arguably the strongest opponent on the schedule – clearly isn’t as good as South Carolina made them out to be in this year’s season-opener.
Bottom line? If the Gamecocks return to 2011-13 form, there’s not a game on this schedule they shouldn’t have at least a shot at winning …

Interesting that three schools have open dates before they play Alabama.
Didn’t Clemson take a week off before SC last year..How’d that work out for ya’????…..LMAO….
Already done working on your blog for the day? Doesn’t take long to update a diary.
or the game before FSU too both this year and last
I guess your right, look at what Dirtpecker U. did with six months off before playing aTm.
7th Heaven on Nov. 28. That’s gotta really suck for a Clemson fan who makes believe he isn’t a Clemson fan but really is a Clemson fan.
The same with Clemsux before UGA, a team in which USC beat.
LOL is this a wait till next year story or are excuses just beginning?
You heard it here first…… 4-8, maybe 5-7 with a triumph in one of the “toss up” games.
It looks like Steve expected a bad season this year and scheduled it as such. He expects better play next year? Penciled out the fluff teams to some extent? Play the MAC teams.

They played good until the fourth quarter. By then, due to Sakerlina’s lack of offense, and TBG does mean lack of offense. BADOOM PSHHHH!, the D was gassed.
2015 = 7 – 5
