WITHOUT COMMENT, HIGH COURT OPENS DOOR TO EXPANSION OF SAME SEX MARRIAGES
By FITSNEWS || The U.S. Supreme Court is declining to get involved in the gay marriage debate – meaning numerous states that have struck down gay marriage bans (or have challenges to those bans pending on appeal) will soon join the nineteen states currently permitting same sex weddings.
Add it all up and there will soon be thirty states where same sex marriages will be expressly allowed.
Appeals court rulings struck down gay marriage bans in Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. Meanwhile there are pending appeals in Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming.
“The court’s letting stand these victories means that gay couples will soon share in the freedom to marry in thirty states, representing 60 percent of the American people,” a statement from the group Freedom to Marry noted. “But we are one country, with one Constitution, and the court’s delay in affirming the freedom to marry nationwide prolongs the patchwork of state-to-state discrimination and the harms and indignity that the denial of marriage still inflicts on too many couples in too many places.”

We addressed this issue recently in the context of remarks made by presumptive Republican presidential contender Rand Paul – who believes marriage should be left up to local governments.
We disagree with Paul. We also disagree with the court punting on this issue and effectively leaving the matter in limbo at the state level.
Seriously, there should be no confusion, complexity or contradiction on the issue of gay or straight marriage: For any American, living in any state.
If you can find a church that will marry you – no matter where you live – then you should have the right to marry in that church. Similarly, no church should ever be threatened or compelled by government to perform marriages in a manner inconsistent with their beliefs.
In other words, government should have no role in marriage – it should be left exclusively to individual congregations.

A hell of a lot of gay and lesbian couples work, pay taxes, pay into social security, and other things, yet are denied equal benefits to married straight people because of their legal status, which keeps them from being “legally” married. This is not right or just. I have lesbian friends who have been and are in this situation. One had to move out of the country because our immigration system was bending over backwards to harass her girlfriend when she came here to visit, trying her best to comply with all laws and rules for those visits. They noted the number and length (within legal limits) of the visits and said that “something” was causing her to visit this country and because they “feared” it might make her eventually decide to stay beyond the legal limits imposed in her visas or whatever, they started denying her requests to return here. She was a pleasant person to be around and not a criminal, drug user, or anything of the sort. She was from an English speaking country that is friendly to the USA. Meanwhile, we allow or deliberately import thousands of illiterate people who speak no English, from countries that have ambiguous intent toward the US, who struggle to function in our culture.
My friend couldn’t marry her girlfriend here because of our stupid laws. She moved to her girlfriend’s country, married her, and is enjoying a new life and career after retiring from the job she was in while living here.

The Supreme Court has not left the states in limbo. The Justices have simply refused to review the lower court cases, so they stand. At this point there is no disagreement among the Circuit Courts around the nation. Same sex marriage bans are unconstitutional. Every single Circuit Court that has heard the issue agrees. Wilson can jump up and down and vow to fight if he wants, but SC’s same sex marriage ban is going down. He is wasting state money. While the SC case is still at the District Court level, the SC Federal District Court is bound by the decision of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. That is why NC has already announced it will not longer defend its same sex marriage ban.

Sexual preference is a NOT A CIVIL RIGHT. Gays already have more rights than constructive Americans. You have no right to re-define government marriage based on your special interest group.

Yes it is. You have the right to like thin chicks, fat chicks, black women, white women, short women, tall women, women with huge racks, women with small breasts, blondes, brunettes, redheads, smart girls, dumb girls, etc.
You also have the right to like men if that’s your thing.
Sexual preference is an individual right. Just because you hate people that like different things doesn’t mean you should be able to strip someone of their rights.
Marriage is an individual right. Religion is an optional piece, you can apply any religion whatsoever, or none at all. Government’s role is to just keep a record of it and apply laws accordingly. All that actually matters is that the persons involved love each other and consent to being married. They have the right to be together. They have the right to not be oppressed by you or anyone else, just as you have the right to not be oppressed by them or anyone else.

No one is taking your right. You can marry anyone you want. But the PEOPLE – who ARE the government – have ALL RIGHTS to DEFINE marriage as we want. And you need to sit down and STFU…instead of whining for a special dispensation to feed your political special interest group.
Per recent polling data, a majority of the PEOPLE – who ARE the government support SSM. And, that number is rising. So, I’m thinking you should probably take your own advice, STFU and get over your personal hang-ups.

I hear that it’s not cheers all around in the gay community. A sizeable (and silent) minority preferred the ban, seeing as how it protected them from actually having to get married. Wonder how many straights wouldn’t be where they are today if they were able to say “Honey, I’d love to marry you but we’re not allowed to be happy.”
Good point, Crooner! As I have noted in the past, since the people so opposed to gay marriage seem to have such disdain for the gays, you’d think they’d support gay marriage. Then gays could enjoy divorce courts, spousal support, and all the other “advantages” of married life the rest of us get to enjoy.
Oh, and they could also get to enjoy going to jail for CDV (something that is now a legal impossibility in SC due to our antiquated views of gays). The first time they (whether married or cohabiting) have an argument and one puts a little scratch on the other or leaves a hand print on their face or arm, its away to jail for you and lifelong loss of your right to own a firearm, courtesy of Mr Lautenberg (may he RIH).
