GOVERNOR SEEKS SPOTLIGHT AMID CORRUPTION PROBE
By FITSNEWS || S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley is not going to be outdone by what could wind up being the largest anti-corruption investigation in South Carolina history.
The first-term governor – who should have been indicted on corruption charges two years ago – is weighing on the matter in a variety of different ways.
First, Haley is unloading on S.C. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell – her longtime nemesis who was indicted on nine counts of state-level corruption earlier this month (and arraigned on those charges earlier this week).
“This is a good example, along with several others, that we’ve had on why we need to do (ethics reform),” Haley told reporters this week in responding to questions about the Harrell case.
Really? For those of you with short memories, Haley is a total ethics reform hypocrite. Second of all the “ethics reform” legislation she championed this year was terrible – and would have actually moved South Carolina backward on this critical issue.
Anyway … Haley’s other play? Touting the “work” of her Inspector General’s office – which according to multiple sources is conducting its own investigation into “the budget process and legislative earmarks” in the S.C. State House.
Hmmmm …
Obviously we support any effort by any agency to expose corruption in government. There’s certainly no shortage of it in South Carolina. But Haley exposing corruption? That’s a good one …

I seem to remember when the Ethics Bill was being debated, she was in New York at the Waldorf with Her Rock Star Joan Jett!! Why was she not in South Carolina showing some leadership and pushing to get Ethics reform Passed?

The temperature seems certain to become even more uncomfortable for the house and the senate. US Attorney Bill Nettles stuck his neck out. The people of South Carolina are now fully expecting federal arrest. They expect nothing less.

What? She’s not a hypocrite. She wants to make illegal all the unethical things she did legally in the past.
She did not do them legally in the past.
She just threatened to expose all the others who were doing what she was doing and the House Ethics Committee just let it all pass.
If they were going to find her guilty for those charges, then her threat is legitimate and morally justifiable. If the ethics committee found her actions violated ethics rules then everyone else who violated them should be exposed.
Yeah…that kinda makes her a hypocrite.
Hypocrite? It’s an overused word. I may be opposed to a tax break, but if I’m eligible, I’ll take it. I may be for a helmet law, but until it’s law I won’t use one. I may support a law preventing legislators from heading a PAC, but wouldn’t want my legislator to put himself at a disadvantage by not heading one if allowed by law. Nothing hypocritical about any of these positions.
The only entities that should be doing investigations are law enforcement officials. Not politicians. What are they attempting to do? Find evidence that can be used against them, and then alter it or make it vanish into thin air? They are all squirming with worry. And it shows.
