WHAT’S NEXT? LEE CORSO IN A TIGER HAT?
By FITSNews || Apparently ESPN was unable to find a South Carolinian of suitable import to feature on its College GameDay program. And so Gamecock football fans wound up with country singer (and University of Tennessee supporter) Kenny Chesney as the “hometown” guest picker for this week’s edition of the popular college football show at the University of South Carolina’s historic Horseshoe campus.
Just when you thought the GameDay humiliation couldn’t be more complete, though, along comes the talented and lovely Brandi Mills with a shocking tweet.
Brace yourselves, people. Because this is one of those “oh, the humanity!” moments.
Not content with the Chesney indignity, ESPN decided to rub a little salt in the wound by running a promo for South Carolina’s GameDay program on Thursday. The only problem is they got the wrong school.
Here’s a screen grab …

Ummmmm …
“That’s Tillman Hall, on the campus of Clemson University, which is not the University of South Carolina and is not in Columbia,” the website Deadspin noted.
Well, yeah … but this is worse than merely getting it wrong: Clemson has been the University of South Carolina’s arch-rival for the last 100-plus years!
Seriously … what’s next?
Will all four of the show’s analysts agree with Clemson defensive back Vic Beasley‘s assessment that he’s a “better player” than former Gamecock all-American Jadeveon Clowney?
Starring Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard, College GameDay airs at 9:00 a.m. EDT on ESPN. This is the show’s seventh appearance in Columbia. GameDay has been to Clemson three times – including twice during the 2013 season.
Anyway, for those of you who care about the game, No. 13/15 South Carolina (3-1, 2-1 SEC) hosts unranked Missouri (3-1, 0-0 SEC) at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in downtown Columbia, S.C. NOT Clemson. Head coach Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks – who needed a miracle to beat then-No. 5 Missouri on the road last year – enter the contest as five-point favorites.
RAPID REACTION
@fitsnews The photo is somewhat accurate, since USC has owned Clemson the last five years.

It’s a bit simple-minded to take that as a sign of disrespect. Some of the obviously affiliated broadcasters are a problem at times. Or bashing JD before he played a down at SC shows stupidity by the media. This is just a mistake. It’s a bigger embarrassment to ESPN than anything else. But leave it to the lock-steppers to read it wrong.
It’s paranoia to crap your pants over it.
And let me guess you monkey, there is some great insight over at the crappy page of yours. Save your wad for over there and stop stinking this place up so.
This is what happens when you have no history and nothing to be proud of.
No need to feel THAT bad, Clemson only missed the Civil War by forty years and has been awarding four year degrees for over seventy-five years. Don’t be so hard on yourselves.
Clempson has quite a history – beginning with the guy Tillman Hall is named after…
Don’t leave out Winthrop. Tillman had to battle what he called “effete dandies” who opposed the creation of Clemson College. “Effete dandies” can be interpreted as Tillman’s euphemism for homosexuals.
Winthrop tries to downplay that relationship – Clempson seems to be proud of it.
So, get a couple of your drunk buddies and go take it down like they took down statues of Saddam Hussein.
So how do you feel about the Wade Hampton statue on the grounds? Isn’t there also one of him on the USCe campus, near the Education building?
Wade Hampton is the antithesis of Tillman. In fact it was Tillmanites who made sure that Hampton died penniless. At one time Hampton was one of the wealthiest men in the country.
“Penniless”, you mean as in while having the largest estate in Columbia?
The home he lived in when he died was built for him by friends against his wishes. He died dead broke.
Just to make sure we’re talking about the same guy Squishy, I’m talking about Wade Hampton III. Wades I and II both died quite wealthy.
There were three of them?
Yes, Wade I fought in the Revolution and was a state representative. Wade I fought in the War of 1812 and
Oh yeah, he formed the KKK in South Carolina.
No, Hampton had no use for the secretive Klan and as I have pointed out numerous times, the Klan has never been a major factor in South Carolina. Hampton was supported by the Red Shirts, an overt group spring “whites rights”. The Red Shirts were more politically motivated and while they certainly acted against blacks, most of their actions were aimed at “Republicans”. They would break up their political meetings and generally create havoc for them.
Isn’t there a statue of Tillman within rock chunking distance of the USCe campus?
Yep, see below – and don’t give me any ideas. When I teach “the battle of Columbia”, aka, “the shelling/burning of Columbia”, I make it a point to go visit Ol’Pitchfork with my class and tell them what a terrorist he was.
That’s what liberal faculty usually do… so not that big of a surprise.
I’d hardly be categorized as “liberal faculty”. I just really dislike Tillman and all he stood for.
Are you like Sam Kinison in Back to School when you discuss him?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfi4s8cjLFI
No, I generally juxtapose Tillman, the African American Monument and the Confederate Flag. Hampton owned slaves when it was legal, Tillman tried to return them to that status when it wasn’t.
Let’s see, “Miss. State e”, could be what college? Now that has real historical reference, in a certain school’s charter. Know what I mean?
Allen University?
No, its the in the dirt pecker lover mother of yours.
1889-1861= 40 years using USCe math
5 + 1 = 6. Even an old shit kickin, Pickens Tech lover like you can do that math. Just use all the toes on your right foot….no, not that one, I said right foot.
That’s funny right there.
So this is your “explanation” for your erroneous math? Leave it to a non-technical person to try and justify their math.
NO TRUE SOUTHERNER USE THE TERM”CIVIL WAR” SIR!
Amen!
“The Southern Struggle to Save Slavery”
I assure you I qualify. Civil War has just come into common usage. Do you remember when you were inducted into the Children of the Confederacy?
Common for YANKEE”s and their ILK.
WAR BETWEEN THE STATES!
I generally go with unCivil War.
That would be the War of Northern Aggression.
Agreed. Beating Clemson by 2-3 touchdowns a year is not much to be proud of.
63-17
Oh, they have history but they are not proud of it. http://tundra.csd.sc.edu/slaveryorigin/resources.php?category=research&paper=1_2&type=web
A history that featuring such characters as slavery advocate John C. Calhoun, slaverowner Thomas GreenClemson, white supremacist and lynching law supporter Pitchfork Ben” Tillman, and Dixiecrat Party founder Strom Thurmond is nothing to be proud of … unless you’re a racist, too. Nothing in USC’s history, which began 88 years before Clemson was founded, comes close to generating that level of shame. Holderman might have been a queer spendthrift, but he did not thrive on hate.
Haha. Love the little brother syndrome down in cola. But it wasnt intended for you. That picture of Tillman hall has been the end of all those commercials all season, no matter what school the show is being broadcast from during that week.
GO TIGERS!
…and take Auburn with you!
Very smart Big Sister!
ESPN has sucked at covering the Cocks since their very first days on the air. They suck – anyone who’d hire lisping, lying, losing Lou http://thisiswhyitsucks.com/2010/11/12/hater-hall-of-shame-lou-holtz-edition/
I heard that Lou was the coach at USCe once upon a time.
He sucked at that too – 33-37 in 5 years 6-5 in his last season and he left us with NCAA violations. Looked like the grounds keeper standing there on the sidelines wearing his mothers glasses.
The late Head of Civil Engineering Department at Arkansas (where Lou once coached) told me when USCe hired him that y’all will find out just like the other schools where he coached that you will be happy to see him come but quite a bit happier to see him leave.
All I needed to know about Holtz was that he cheated at Notre Dame, at Arkansas, at Minnesota and probably every other school he ever coached at.
Too funny. Where’s Wu to defwend himself?
Probably trying to get an order right at the drive through.
Love how these Clemson fans chime in, as though they have deserved the right to be heard on anything related to college football.
Anywho, hope they study up on Connor Mitch… it seems the best way to beat Clemson these days is with your 2nd string quarterback.
Yes, Dylan has been there, done that already. He can rest up that weekend.
Damn FITS you ran an article about a Clemson student being found under a bridge near campus but the photo that you used was from either the nuclear plant in Seneca or the tailwaters behind the Hartwell dam which is on the other end of the lake between Ga & SC. Stock photos bullshit for both of you. Keep that shit between yourselves at media conventions for crying out loud.
tho’ it would be amusing to see tigers vs tigers… tigers lose either way
Nice photoshop Fits! You got one thing right. CU is the University of SC whether you or anyone else likes it or not. Deal with that you sports minded school, conference and supporters.
“Deal with that you sports minded school, conference and supporter”, Really??? Is your conference the same conference that has the no show classes at UNC or the pay for play at Miami, or the scandals rocking the school that wont even stoop as low to join you in football with Notre Dame, or the school that may have hazed a kid to death recently? Thanks for the laugh, and by the way you are an idiot.
The Clarke County GA Sheriff’s office says hi.
Sigma Phi Epsilon says hi, so do the kids parents, and all other suspended frats. (sexual misconduct???? hmmmm not good)
http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/23/us/clemson-university-fraternities/index.html
Who cares?
Did you see that “kufi” hat mark on Muslim Obama’s head? It was on thread of Holder. He must be keeping that prayer rug busy at night while Michelle is eating wings?
Do you have any natural teeth?
Missouri? Indiana beat Missouri AT Missouri last weekend after Indiana lost to Bowling Green which then lost toWWisconsin by 50 points.
A joke this game is even on TV.
Vic Beasley is now a defensive back??? I suggest Spurrier throw his way every other down as the mismatch would be monumental.
Well what did you want? A picture of a railroad tracks, some pallets and empty wine bottles? I know..it alls says “home” to cock fan.
It is no secret that ESPN does not like coming to SCAR.
