It’s a bit simple-minded to take that as a sign of disrespect. Some of the obviously affiliated broadcasters are a problem at times. Or bashing JD before he played a down at SC shows stupidity by the media. This is just a mistake. It’s a bigger embarrassment to ESPN than anything else. Don’t leave out Winthrop. Tillman had to battle what he called “effete dandies” who opposed the creation of Clemson College. “Effete dandies” can be interpreted as Tillman’s euphemism for homosexuals.
Winthrop tries to downplay that relationship – Clempson seems to be proud of it.

Wade Hampton is the antithesis of Tillman. In fact it was Tillmanites who made sure that Hampton died penniless. At one time Hampton was one of the wealthiest men in the country.

They would break up their political meetings and generally create havoc for them.
