By FITSNews || This website gets tons of tips. How come? Because we religiously protect our sources (even the ones who don’t like us very much). Information is power, and the more you demonstrate to people that you can be trusted with it … the more they give you.
Hell, we get so much information here we don’t know what to do with all of it!
Anyway, the vast majority of information received by FITS comes from individuals who absolutely positively do NOT want their name (or any other identifying information) tied to the tips they provide. Which makes sense … and which is why we have a default setting of confidentiality regarding all of the information we receive.
Of course there are individuals and groups out there who don’t mind having their names associated with certain information – and who actually want some of our web traffic to accrue to their web/ social media page.
That’s why we’re announcing a new “hat tip” feature.
How does it work? Easy: If you submit a tip to this website (via our contact page, email, Facebook, Twitter or snail mail) we will continue to treat it as a confidential communication – whether you provided it anonymously or not.
However, on the off chance you wish to be credited with providing certain information just let us know by saying “I’d like a hat tip,” or “hat tip, please” or something along those lines.
And we’ll give you one …
Again, our default setting is anonymity … but we’re also more than happy to share the love to those interested in receiving it.
