I agree. And I’m confounded how a peaceable customer, eating his already-paid-for lunch, seated at a table, can be lawfully ordered to leave. By the restaurant, by a politician, by a politician’s staff, or by a policeman. I bounced this story off of a friend tonight and he can’t figure it out either. He said, “If this happened in Russia and Vladimir Putin was in town, I’d understand.” And then he said, “But then again, this is South Carolina, where politicians have no respect for law or ordinary people.”
Unless eating food and talking amongst yourselves constitutes “making a scene” nowadays. In that case, all paying restaurant patrons (a class of people that doesn’t include Haley, Christie, or the staffers who didn’t buy any food) are making a scene.
