… AND THOMAS RAVENEL

We haven’t read much of Kathleen Parker‘s stuff lately.  The South Carolina-based columnist for The Washington Post  writers’ group just doesn’t interest us like she used to.

In fact it’s been so long since we last perused a Parker column we couldn’t tell you where the sardonic insider stands on any of the pressing issues of the day …

Having said that, Parker penned a must-read column this week on U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford – whom she refers to as an “erstwhile Appalachian trail wanderer,” one who “contrary to decorum and taste, continues to demand attention.”

It only gets better … or worse if you’re the “Luv Gov.”

Parker finds the ongoing fascination surrounding Sanford’s soap opera … well, fascinating … given that “leading men do not long hold an audience after they cry over themselves.”

Ouch …

“Sanford, apparently finding unbearable his irrelevance and growing obscurity, decided to drop his manly charade and write a torturously long Facebook entry in which, among other true confessions, he announced the end of his engagement to (Maria Belen) Chapur,” Parker wrote.

She’s referring of course to this tome … which has since been deleted from Sanford’s Facebook page.

According to Sanford, he and Chapur mutually broke off their engagement owing to the relentless legal machinations of bitter ex-wife Jenny Sanford, who was/ is allegedly holding access to the couple’s youngest son over his head.

(Cue Days of our Lives  theme …)

But Chapur says Sanford’s announcement caught her off guard … and the Argentine knockout has been less than accommodating in advancing the Congressman’s preferred narrative (which could be because that narrative has some holes in it).

Anyway … in assessing all of this from her Camden, S.C. farmland, Parker “wonders what ever attracted at least two women to Sanford, whose charms remain elusive.”

Tssssssss …. burn.

Parker also addresses the U.S. Senate candidacy of newly minted independent Thomas Ravenel in her column, referring to the Lowcountry businessman as “not a serious person.”

“Why run?”  Parker mused of Ravenel’s candidacy.  “The answer can only be to try to fill that bottomless trough of narcissistic need.”

Again … ouch.

Parker’s real target, though?  South Carolina … a state she refers to as “stubbornly defiant, bellicosely belligerent and heartbreakingly wounded by the humiliation imposed by its invasion and conquest.”

“This baffling state seems determined to besaint the besotted and magnify the man-child,” she wrote.

Yeah …

Her stuff is not half as good as what I’ve seen on SCPSD. She is an outsider, rooted in liberal media dictates. SCPSD is much closer and free to be honest. The site has several Sanford articles, that are much more provocative, accurate and insightful.

Surprised? I’m tough to predict. You should have figured that out by now.

Question: Do you want to know the fastest way to lose credibility on this site?

Answer: Describe a “Tango” post as “intellectual.”

We’ll have to start paying each other royalties- I throw your “TBG Rule #3” at some clown during a debate at least once a week, sometimes even in a meeting with actual people in a room. Stone silence usually follows, until I explain the rule at which point all are laughing (with the one exception, obviously).

Her piece meanders searching for a single theme and the only one it can find is snark dismissal. She could not muster enough on any one of her targets so she attempts to weave them somehow into one. And fails.
And ends with the lowest of potshots, suggesting a reality show starring the Narcissist King David Wannabe and the King Cocaine of Citzenship Renouncers be called Gamecocks.
Perplexing that she would drop the line, as it probably does not work for a national audience that will be reaching for a dictionary and alienates half the stats audience.

”The answer can only be to try to fill that bottomless trough of narcissistic need.”

That’s a +10 right there…lol…the only thing is, Ms. Parker needs to wake up to the reality that it’s not just Sanford & T-Rav, politics/power draws the worst of society in general, all with similar characteristics…it’s just that some sociopaths hide it better than others.

Like shooting fish in a barrel, but no Pulitzer material here. It reads like a FITS highlight reel. Parker needs to get a seat on The View.

How true, but in Sanford’s case why didn’t the voters in SC-1 see him as “a bottomless trough of narcissistic need?” What’s wrong with them? Do they feel he represents them well? Mark Sanford represents Mark Sanford. He is not even considerate of his wife (now ex-wife), his children or his “soul mate.”

That problem lies squarely on the shoulders of Democrats. SC 01 voters obviously do not identify with Obama and the Democrat Party. So much so that they would vote for any Republican over those turds. Used to be, there were Democrats who really did disagree with their national party bosses, and voted that way. But not anymore, as Sanford’s opponents all are on board with the National Democrat Party agenda, and support Hussein Obama’s agenda. Does anyone really disagree that if Sheheen does not quietly support the agenda of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Hussein Obama? Same goes for every Democrat in SC running for office – Brad Hutto, and the last union supported hack that ran against Sanfraud. Democrats could run and win in South Carolina if they were not so damn left wing. Voters are looking for an out with these corrupt Republican turds like Sanfraud and Graham. If Democrats would just nominate someone reasonable, and a Democrat that genuinely is at odds with the National Democrat Party, and would tactfully verbalize that opposition, they’d win back a few Federal and statewide offices.

South Carolina is only South Carolina in name only. Its a mixed puppy now, of sorts. So many transplants, multi culture mix. Not many who reside in South Carolina are true natives. So get it right, Parker. You are too old school and disconnected from the times.

Good point. Sanford is not a native South Carolinian.

Reply
Buz Martin September 19, 2014 at 3:30 am

SC has been a “mixed puppy” for the last 500 years. To the point that most of us are hybrids composed of different degrees of mainly European, Native American and African bloodlines. The illusion of “whiteness” on the part of most current natives of the dominant culture here is the result of deep-seated delusional thinking bordering on psychosis.

You, obviously, are just pure-tee et up with it.

The Yakima Herald. Now, that is big time! The relevancy of an article about sour apples in South Carolina–published in Yakima, Washington (population 90,000)–seems akin to making fun of all Canadians because of Rob Ford.

“’What is it about South Carolina?’ is a question I’m frequently asked” Exciting, riveting. Fantastic use of the “vague generalization,” Kathleen.

Parker writes with Southern drawl which l’m sure amuses her Northern audience and causes South Carolinians to cringe.
Parker fails to convey that many South Carolinians are as offended by Sanford and Ravenel as dignified Negro is by the antics of an “Uncle Tom” parodied in blackface in a minstrel show.

Kathleen, please do not demean Fratters by including Sanford.
T-Rav, maybe so, but Sanford was a fucking male cheerleader at Furman. No self respecting Fratter would ever trade his croakie shades and his one size too small khaki shorts for a purple FU sweater.
And the only thing fratters cry about is spilled beer.

If you want a reasonable facsimile of what South Carolina is, look no further than acting Sheriff Lewis McCarty over at Lexington County. Do not let that fair skin complexion fool you, under neath that thin skin is a reptile so two faced and able to exploit a criminal act in a single press release. He was indicted bad guy Sheriff Metts’ left hand during the last 45 years of lawful masturbatory bliss beguiled by their partner in ejaculation, Solicitor Donnie Meyers. Easily enraged when his desires are thwarted, he represents a time capsule of the worst South Carolina was and yet, embraced by the current subculture of schizotypal deputized miscreants, is the poster boy for present and future law men in their antiminarchism where high ideals of protecting individual rights, the government subverting its role as an agent of its citizens and “has no rights except the rights delegated to it by the citizens” is perverted by the same government that acts in a partial manner according to specific, subjectively defined laws and their enforcement.

Law enforcement is a higher noble calling, if done right. If to enforce bad laws written by equally wicked legislators is the job description, how can freedom and liberty flag waving constitutionalists carry forward the intent and subjectivism of unlawful laws? They can’t. By definition, a sworn in Sheriff, deputy, solicitor, or legislator can not possibly be a coward and an enemy to the very people they serve. Quite possibly that answer lies elsewhere.

To lack empathy with sadistic fantasies is only one layer qualities exhibited by our law enforcers and legislators. Possessing powerful sadistic traits, these “people” such as McCarty, Santiago, Lott, Keel, Metts, Williams, Wilson, Harrell, Leatherman, Sanford, and Meyers with their proteges often are severley socially anxious, they strike citizens as odd while internally create an internal world where they are superior beings thinking about themselves as gods. These people are not just self-centered with significant social deficits, they can not understand why citizens hate them since they feel as “victims” of the very hate and malicious disregard for citizens and their oaths the true victims, citizens, channel back to them in a primitive mammalian act of self preservation. Embracing victims of crime only if the occasion protects the familial, collegiate, or career wise connected to advance their inward delusions while simultaneously spitting on every other is their calling card. I am not finished.

Citizens can never accept the mentally ill ruling class and their enforcers to spite the founding documents they perverted for their own selfishly narrow purposes. Their response? Military grade weapons, tanks, kevlar body armaments, drones, sniper rifles to protect them from the justified bitter reactions to their defamatory press releases, prosecutorial misconduct, phony internal investigations, shammed grand juries, evidence gathered illegally, evidence tampering, illegal shootings, trampling of constitutional rights to their misperception that humanity is just like them!

These people think their ill gotten and illegal actions will transform humanity. It is these bizarre attitudes they carry that has mutated humanity into a prisoner mentality in their purposely created fascist state of existence. Their narcissistic entitlement, delusions of grandeur, paranoia, masochistic obsession with their own suffering, devastating envy, and sadistic fantasies of vengeance all result in horrific acts of violence against unarmed citizens and those detained by their unlawful enforcement.

OooooK.
What I want to know and cannot figure out from watching the Lexington sheriff’s news conference or reading the TV stories, did the guy who killed his 5 kids actually get arrested in Lexington County on 8-28 for putting his kids out the car at Wal-Mart and tell the cops that the kids were going to kill him and feed him to the dogs and they did not send him for an evaluation or did he tell that to a bystander who reported it to LE at some later point?
BTW, not one sentence of your 5 paragraphs makes a lick of sense to me.

In your parlance, our elected officials spit on our constitutional rights and get away with murder. The routine manner in their standard operational procedures exposed by courageous non-profits, journalists, and blogs (social media) is met by their unparalleled heavy handed responses of violence, amending the code of laws secretly, or unconstitutional court rulings which all greased by political favors, money, psychotic vengeance, and downright psychopathic lawlessness.
