Whatever the reason, it must have been pretty damn good- they left the TR hissy-fit temper tantrum citizenship renouncement up (and bragged about leaving it up). Hell, that one’s still up! I don’t think this is a big mystery, though. He who writes the checks is the boss. Period. If TR wanted it off, then off it came. As we are constantly reminded, this is NOT a news site, so no big ethical deal there. The cool-guy street cred points take a real hit though…

Boy through to Joshua Tree is all pretty solid, Rattle and Hum is a great live album/video. They started losing momentum on Achtung Baby and never really regained it.
Mostly agree. I give a pass on Rattle and Hum but Achtung Baby is probably one of their best albums. Zooropa..so-so. Pop is rubbish. All that you can’t leave behind has a handful of good songs, Atomic Bomb has a handful of good songs. No line on the Horizon is rubbish. This latest album is not doing it for me either.

Achtung baby is track for track better than joshua tree and the tour stands as redefining what a stadium tour has to be. You just got old
Old? Hardly. I was 20 when Achtung Baby came out, and while I think it was a good album with some standout tracks it’s far from Joshua Tree level cover to cover. They were writing for pop radio, can’t fault them for that. It is quite interesting to hear the progression as a band that top notch producers like Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois afforded them.

I liked U2’s first album.Since then,they’ve been recording variations on that one,ad nauseum;a lot of echo,reverb,shoddy musicianship,poor songwriting,’sound and fury’,signifying nothing.
