The official web portal of South Carolina’s all-powerful legislative branch of government went offline for an extended period of time last week – raising concerns that the website might have been hacked.
The portal – SCStateHouse.gov – was offline for more than 24 hours last Thursday and Friday, which we’re told was due to a “hard fail” of the site’s servers. Employees at the State House were told by legislative staff that the outage was a “Microsoft issue.”
Hmmmm …
SCStateHouse.gov (when it’s accessible) enables users to track legislation, roll call votes, budgets and other information related to the legislative process. It also allows them to find out who represents them in the S.C. House of Representatives and State Senate.
Why would anyone want to hack this site?
We’re not sure … as far as we know it doesn’t contain any sensitive information.
That agency’s already been hacked, remember?

Who runs the IT department? Jeez. Did any heads roll after the last time we got hacked?
Are you kidding me? Bill Blume (former SCDOR chief) was allowed to resign (certainly getting full retirement..AFTER getting a 5% COLA pay raise.)
You can’t get fired from state gubmint, can you? Man…I have GOT to get me a job working for the state.
I’m more amazed someone noticed the site was down. Not exactly the kind of site I’d really miss if it went down for a day.
Obamacare is functioning just perfect!
“State House Website: Hacked?” Of course it is, it’s full of them, hacks that is…
“Why would anyone want to hack this site?”
I was trying to rearrange the site entry to include “It’s a great day in SC!”, ok?
It wasn’t a hack, I just fubar’d the code and the whole thing went down.
I had to call my old prof @ ITT to get it straightened out.
OT though baby!
Strange how all these state hackings have happened during the Haley admin. Something very sinister here.
So it was an outage, not a “hack.” Facebook, eBay and Apple recently had outages and they have infinitely more resources for their networks than … Well, just about anyone. More deception from FITS.
Real question is, were there any votes during that time? Ha!
