SC State House Lobbyist Shakeup

S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s former deputy Trey Walker is leaving his post as the University of South Carolina’s top lobbyist to take a similar job with the state’s largest health care company.

Walker – a longtime staffer with former S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster – is one of the consummate “good ‘ol boys” in state government.  He’s also the guy at the center of our recent story exposing how state lawmakers get preferential deals on college football tickets.

Which many of them pay for out of their campaign accounts …

Known around the S.C. State House as “Trey Boy,” Walker got his start manning rides at Carowinds, the amusement park located on the North Carolina-South Carolina border near Charlotte.  Now he’ll be setting the legislative agenda (i.e. pushing his old boss’s Medicaid expansion) for S.C. Blue Cross Blue Shield.

We’d like to say we wish Walker the best in his future endeavors, but we’ve not sure exactly how much “endeavoring” is associated with his “work.”  We know he watches a lot of sports on television … and tweets a lot about McMaster’s campaign for lieutenant governor.

Oh well …

A lot of those folks in Columbia got ahead by kicking their girl friends in the behind and rating on others!

Maybe he can run a blog on the side and get female friends to write about shoe shopping at quaint little botiques around Columbia and eating lunch on the sidewalk in 5-Points.

i knew Joe Rogers. Joe Rogers was a friend of our family. Joe Rogers was a Conservative Republican when it wasn’t cool to be a Republican much less a Conservative one.

Joe’s office was on W. Boyce St. in Manning diagonally across the street from the Clarendon County Courthouse.

RIP Joe Rogers, and screw you Richard Nixon. No thanks necessary, Joe, I said it for you……I know you were too much the gentleman to say so publicly.

I have known Trey like forever, strictly establishment Republican. Nice enough guy, making big bucks, why rock the boat ? Best to him.

Nice guy, no talent, for sale to the highest bidder. Isn’t that what lobbying is all about??

Trey Walker is the coolest guy in Columbia… just ask him. Outside of his high opinion of himself, everyone else just thinks he’s a douchebag. I’m sure the lobby is disappointed he’ll still be around; no way he is leaving USC by his own choosing. I mean, anyone who is subservient to Henry McMaster must be a total ass hat and should probably be jobless in general.
