WILL SOUTH CAROLINA GET BOUNCED FROM THE NATIONAL RANKINGS?
The University of South Carolina football team has been a fixture in the national rankings for the last four years. In fact you have to go all the way back to the 2010 preseason rankings to find a poll that didn’t include head coach Steve Spurrier‘s squad.
That’s a school-record streak of 65 consecutive polls … and the fifth-longest streak in the country behind Alabama (99), LSU (82), Oregon (78) and Oklahoma (66).
Will the streak end next week when the Associated Press and USA Today/ Coaches’ polls come out?
We’ll have to wait and see … but there’s a pretty compelling case to be made that the Gamecocks (0-1, 0-1 SEC) don’t belong in the rankings.
South Carolina wasn’t just beaten by No. 20/21 Texas A&M, they were humiliated – giving up a record 680 yards to a team that was supposed to struggle after losing former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.
Question marks abound in Columbia, S.C. – and while we’ll have to wait awhile to see how many of them are answered, we won’t have to wait long to see how far the Gamecocks fall in the polls.
For those of you keeping score at home, the biggest-ever tumble out of the Top 25 occurred in 2007 – when No. 5 Michigan was defeated by unranked FCS opponent Appalachian State. Two years ago, Arkansas began the season ranked No. 8 but fell out of the Top 25 after losing in overtime to Louisiana-Monroe.
Clearly Kevin Sumlin’s Texas A&M squad is a much stronger opponent than either of those schools … but they also whipped South Carolina by a much broader margin.
Our guess? South Carolina falls to No. 23 in the AP poll and No. 22 in the coaches’ poll … but then again we predicted the Gamecocks were going to cover the 10-point spread on Thursday night.
Oops …

Who cares, being number 9 didn’t mean anything.
If Steve can not get anything going with Connor Mitch, David Williams next week, we could very well lose prospects and commitments in our recruiting. Defense? New coach with swagger and credibility should turn those boys into men. Your call Coach Ray and Steve. When in command…command. Get points on the board and stop playing schoolmarm, Steve. Set the program up so you can retire in four years.
There is a new cheerleader this year. She has a nice ass.
Assuming that the defense will be ranked last in yards allowed, I’d say they fall outside of the Top 25.
Somewhat OT:
Most posters here at FITSNEWS have probably noticed that PORNHUB[dot]com, YOUPORN[dot]com and some other favorite sites are down. Apparently hundreds of thousands of members have been attempting to upload a 4 hour video titled “Aggies Anal Rape of Game Cocks”; which caused the overloaded servers to crash….
This is coming from a Clemson fan. It’s just the FIRST game. Put away the white flags, it’s still Spurrier and playoffs are a long ways away. Go Tigers!
Pastides and Tanner’s little circus number starting to fold. Hype over substance -after ruining what was before an institution of higher education, handing over the farm to useless smart state chairs, good young faculty are leaving in increasing numbers…and now we will watch a defense being overrun by many more teams. Certainly Georgia, maybe even the pirates…even Clemson has a chance this year! Start fining Spurrier ever time he throws his headset or visor – start coaching Steve, golf season is over!
Sic Willie, stick to pimping for T Rav!
It’s kind of pointless to worry about their ranking now. They have to play my Bulldogs in 2 weeks. If they look as bad as Clemson did, they won’t see the Top 25 for a long time.
