IT NEVER ENDS IN SOUTH CAROLINA … DOES IT?

Federal and state officials seized computer equipment from the town hall in Lyman, S.C. – while the local city council suspended the town’s “public works director.”

“With little more than an hour and a half of notice, council held an emergency meeting Tuesday afternoon,” reported Felicia Kitzmiller of The (Spartanburg, S.C.) Herald-Journal.  “While council members were in a closed-door session discussing a personnel matter, law enforcement entered Town Hall and were seen leaving the building with at least one computer.”

Ruh-roh … sound familiar?

According to Kitzmiller, a town employee said that the joint federal-state raid resulted in computer equipment being taken from the office of Lyman mayor Rodney Turner – who “did not attend (the) meeting and could not be reached for comment” afterward.

According to our sources, the investigation may have something to do with the ongoing probe into the illegal dumping of toxic chemicals in sewage systems along the Interstate 85 corridor in Charlotte, Spartanburg, Greenville and Lyman.

Earlier this year it was discovered that polychlorinated biphenyls (or PCBs) – commonly used in coolant products – had been dumped into Charlotte’s wastewater system.  Similar cases of PCB dumping and contamination in South Carolina have been uncovered.

Last year, a Lyman, S.C. police sergeant was arrested and charged with destroying evidence related to illegal PCB dumping.

A suburb of Greer (home of South Carolina’s BMW plant), Lyman’s population is roughly 3,000 – with a median household income of roughly $38,000.

I know,

Some of us have rolled our eyes over that for years but just about every mid-sized airport does the same thing……You pay some damn plane to land just once from outside the US and suddenly you are an “International” aorport

it’s not a bad airport but Charlotte Douglas or Hartsville International it ain’t……………….
And as a rule, the best buys are still out of Charlotte or Atlanta (depending on where you are going).
That being said: = Alegient(sp) has a damn great shuttle from GSP to Ft. Laureldale 1-2 per week non-stop then you are only 3 hours to Key West!!!!!!! The Floridians use it to golf in Hendersonville or Cliffs of Glassy!!!!!

Thanks for asking. How are you? Still weigh 400 lbs, sweat profusely and smell like a skunk? Mommy still house and feed ya ? How many refinances and/or 2nd-3rd-4th mortgages on Mommy’s house before the bank said no more? Did you ever get a drivers licence or vehicle or do you still hobble your fat ass around the Inlet on a cane seeking handouts from the locals-and walking out on bar tabs when you figure out it ain’t free? Still stalking local politicians and their families while creating bizarre tales and falsehoods of corruption that eventually play a roll in getting others sued for libel?

For the record, I’m now down to 255, not using a cane, never have lived off my mother at all, and in fact I am the one that basically keeps her alive and I treat her very well. The shit about skipping out on bar tabs was manufactured by Campbell for his own reasons because I do not drink, I seek no hand-outs from anyone, and basically I could never possibly do as good a job as the local pols themselves do in stalking each other.

PCB levels in parts of Lake Hartwell have resulted in warnings about eating fish caught there. An environmental engineer I know did calculations based on the concentrations reported and ascertained that in order to reach toxic levels, you would have to eat about 5 pounds a day of the fish, every day. But the Corps CYAed by putting out the warning.

Just like so many of those “deadly chemicals” , you would have to consume so much over such a long period of time something else would take you out long before the chemical , like old age. Like all the other environmental crapola, some common sense would come in handy.

“that in order to reach toxic levels”

That doesn’t even mean anything. Toxic to the worms (or shark or alligator) who eat you.

And too many environmental engineers are simply employed as apologists for pollution, though many others get paid big bucks to clean up this “trivial stuff.”

Reply
CNSYD August 28, 2014 at 9:42 pm

Human consumption you dope. But apparently you eat worms so perhaps their toxicity does concern you. By the way, how many sharks and/or alligators have you seen in Lake Hartwell?

Reply
Soft Sigh from Hell August 29, 2014 at 5:06 pm

Still nonsense. But I’ll bet you get that response a lot.

Though go ahead, try to explain it in detail:
“An environmental engineer I know did calculations based on the concentrations reported and ascertained that in order to reach toxic levels, you would have to eat about 5 pounds a day of the fish, every day.”
It directly implies that you can metabolize or excrete in a day a significant amount more than the amount of PCB in five pounds of fish. It infers, presumably, that “you” are in the most vulnerable part of the population: child, pregnant or lactating woman, etc.

You have the floor. Explain it.

The contaminant PCBs go illegally into restaurant grease traps in the middle of the night. These get pumped out and spread on farm fields directly or go to a sewage treatment plant where they absorb into the sludge which itself gets spread on farm fields. I’ll let you figure out the rest of the equation.

Red Bank family to receive $830,000 in water contamination case

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) – A large financial settlement was issued Thursday in a case involving a Red Bank family and Tin Products.

The case stems from alleged contamination of Crystal Lake from the Tin Products company.

The case was heard in a Lexington County courtroom where $830,000 was ordered to be paid to the Macaulay family of Crystal Lake.

The Lexington County Joint Municipal Water & Sewer Authority, DHEC and Tin Products were listed as the defendants in the case.

Red Bank had many home wells contaminated by industrial solvents a decade or so ago. 50 or more I think. Discovered by accident. Not a person in charge of any part of that failure to contain that contamination or find it in time was ever held accountable and absolutely no lesson was learned by SC’s “authorities.” It could happen again tomorrow. It could be happening today and we would not know for a long while and then again by happenstance. No one is looking.

The maximum allowable contaminant level in drinking water in the United States is set at zero, but due to water treatment technologies, a level of 0.5 parts per billion is the defacto level.

In 2013 in South Carolina PCBs were discovered in very high levels in wastewater sludge. The problem was not discovered until thousands of acres of farm land in South Carolina were contaminated by this hazardous material. An ongoing criminal investigation is underway to determine the perpetrator of this crime. While investigation was underway, SCDHEC issued emergency regulatory order banning all PCB laden sewage sludge from being land applied on farm fields or deposited into landfills in South Carolina.

Also in 2013, after DHEC request, the City of Charlotte decided to stop land applying sewage sludge in South Carolina while authorities investigated the source of PCB contamination. In February 2014, the City of Charlotte admits PCB’s have entered their sewage treatment centers as well.

Since I refuse to reply to that liar and coward “Sandi Morals” I will reply to you since your post does a great job of summarizing the situation facing wastewater treatment plants on the I-85 corridor from Greenville to Charlotte
I wrote 2 fairly long posts on the “Somebody gets something on Nikki Haley” article almost two days ago = PLEASE REFER TO MY POSTS ON THAT “THINGY” FOR MY SUMMARY OF EVENTS.
It is serious shit (pardon the pun) in that is is going to cost MILLIONS to rectify this situation for the wastewater treatment plants involved and they are some of the major treatment systems in the upstate: ReWa {aka: Western Carolina Sewer Authority} in Greenville.Spartanburg Sanitary System and CMUD in Charlotte not to mention a shit load (there I go again…) of smaller treatment systems in the Upstate including Lyman where the whole thing started.
I believe Columbia has tested “hot” as well but I don’t think that the Columbia Sewer Authority is affected to the degree that the plants along the I-85 corridor are.
These costs will be passed along to the users of said Sanitary Sewer Districts I can guarentee you that.
There is so much stuff going on in the Town of Lyman the you could not possibly make the shit up.
I won’t get into it at length here but if you go to “goupstate.com” (The Spartanburg herald Journal website you will see the town hall meeting last night was the leading article. Even more amazing when you click on the leading article, the side bar is chock full of the BS that has been going on since last August when this shit (insert pun here…) broke out
INCLUDING a Lyman cop who has been fired for evidence tampering concerning the PCB AFFAIR and the best of all: LYMAN TOWN COUNCIL HAVING A MEETING AND DECIDING TO GIVE THE K-9 MUTT TO THE DICK-HEADED COP WHO HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND IS AWAITING TRIAL!!!
HONESTLY, YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS SHIT UP BUT IS IS ALL TRUE!!!

The Spartanburg H/J has done an excellent jo on covering this situation and it is still developing.
i do think that when/if the perps are discovered who did this shit it will be BIG NEWS.
The FEDS (FBI,EPA),SLED,DHEC and others are all over this situation as they should be

Will do. You likely know as well as I do about the SC Pollution Control Act and the criminal penalties … but the feds can so much more with this. That is not to say, however, that both state and federal time in the slammer can not be imposed. And it would not be a double jeopardy matter either if it is. Sentences have been know to run consecutively. And in a matter like this, they should. The public’s health is at a very high risk with this dumping on the ground. The SC State Attorney General should have an investigation going on. If not, the public needs to know why. This is major chit. Those PCBs could in the long haul end up moving their way into the midlands via rivers, streams, rain run off, and underground water movement, just to name a few.

1996 A 36-inch Colonial Pipeline ruptured at the Reedy River, near Fork Shoals, South Carolina, on June 26. The ruptured pipeline released about 957,600 US gallons (3,625,000 L) of fuel oil into the Reedy River and surrounding areas. The spill polluted a 34-mile (55 km) stretch of the Reedy River, causing significant environmental damage. Floating oil extended about 23 miles (37 km) down the river. Approximately 35,000 fish were killed, along with other aquatic organisms and wildlife. The estimated cost to Colonial Pipeline for cleanup and settlement with the State of South Carolina was $20.5 million. No one was injured in the accident. The pipeline was operating at reduced pressure due to know corrosion issues, but pipeline operator confusion led to an accidental return to normal pressure in that pipeline section, causing the rupture.

Professor consensus: Haley will win

By GAVIN JACKSON

BY GAVIN JACKSON The_State

FLORENCE, SC — The consensus of six political science professors from around the state is that Republican Gov. Nikki Haley will win the Nov. 4 rematch election against Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen.

The professors announced their verdict Thursday during a forum at the University of South Carolina.

The 2014 rematch election is notably different than 2010 since neither are vying for the open spot. Haley is defending herself from Sheheen as he attempts to use her record in office against her in an attempt to dethrone the governor. Polls have shown Haley has wide support thanks to the economy.

The Pee Dee was represented by Francis Marion University’s Alissa Warters, who said voters will be looking at how things are now in their lives and not necessarily scandals at the Department of Revenue or Department of Social Services when it comes to casting their ballot.

“If we’re looking at defining in terms of what the voters are looking at, you look at the most recent (Clemson University) Palmetto Poll: it’s jobs, the economy and health insurance,” Warters said. “But I think you always ask the bellwether question and that’s, ‘Are you better off now more than you were four years ago?’ And Nikki Haley has to answer that and it’s going to come down to the economy and jobs, in all likelihood.”

The June 4 poll found Haley received support from 73 percent of those polled, compared to 6 percent for Sheheen and 2 percent for independent candidate Tom Ervin.

David Woodard of Clemson University, who taught Sheheen, put Haley with 55 percent of the vote to 45 percent for Sheheen ….
