… BUT HE DOESN’T WANT ANY “GROUSING”
Not since the O.J. Simpson murder trial has there been a legal “Dream Team” quite like the one coalescing around recently indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
But who should pay for all that legal muscle?
According to Perry, the taxpayers of Texas. In fact in an interview with the Associated Press prior to embarking on a pre-campaign swing to early-voting South Carolina, Perry said taxpayers should cover the bill – but he’s instructed his campaign accountants to pay it “to keep from having folks grouse about it.”
Hold up … that’s his answer?
National pundits took notice …
“As governor, Perry may think he’s entitled to state-funded legal support,” observed Sean Sullivan of The Washington Post. “As a politician, he probably shouldn’t press that argument.”
Ummmm … not to split hairs, here, but last time we checked Perry’s campaign account has basically become an extension of Texas taxpayers. Seriously … given the number of campaign donors he has hooked up with taxpayer-funded grants, aren’t Texans paying for his defense either way?

Isn’t that always the case, that the chump ends up paying the check?
“(G)iven the number of campaign donors he has hooked up with taxpayer-funded grants, aren’t Texans paying for his defense either way?” Isn’t that the very reason for his attempt to pressure the DA to resign?
Legal bills! We can’t even get Haley to pay her own campaign travel bills, much less her legal bills.
I was absolutely flabbergasted that Lexington County Council did something right and sensible for once, in telling Jimmy Metts to go pound sand when he was begging them to help with the legal bills he has and will run up as a result of years of malfeasance and inappropriate behavior while in office on his part.
I wish the Texas Legislature would grow a similar set of spherical or ovoid objects, even if only temporarily.
Jimmy is telling everyone in Lexington he’ll be back in office by October 1st
I hope not, but I don’t doubt that he is exhibiting such hubris. I hope the FBI and the courts prove him wrong.
If an elected office holder want taxpayers to pay their legal expenses, treat is like any other state contract. The have the state procurement department prepare and RFQ, accept bids for legal services, and award the contract to the low cost bidder.
Under what possible theory should the state pay the legal fees for a state employee in a case were he is accused of committing a crime. Crimes are by definition outside the scope of authority of the employee and not in the furtherance of his duties to the state. Therefore not the taxpayers problem.
I hate politicians, but look at it this way. In some cases, these actions are brought by political enemies just to cause trouble. There are lots of complaints that can be filed that can cost a pol a fortune EVEN IF HE WNS THEM ALL!
Legal cost should be looked at on a case by case, otherwise, you will end up with pols playing golf all day and not doing their jobs for fear of being sued into bankruptcy.
(Of course I know some polls already play golf all the time)
Guy on the left should be president. Guy on the right should be on the short bus.
I would kinda like to see both of them behind bars.
Attacking special needs children to try to elevate yourself and insult others is heartless and ignorant. I know special needs children who have a better sense of compassion and wisdom than you. You bigoted @$$hole.
Too close to the bone, eh?
Taxpayers should pay them. IMHO, as you noted in your other article about this, is a lawsuit about the office of Governor and the power of veto, not personal.
If he wants the taxpayers to pay for his defense, he needs to use staff attorneys from the state’s public defender crew.
He shouldn’t get to pick private attorneys from out of state and expect Texans to pay.
Far enough and I agree.
Taxpayers funded the bearded, toothless hag, who attacked him….So STFU FITS. If you can use gov’t funds to persecute a man for doing right, then return part of your welfare check and food stamp Greed, to help an innocent and just man….
Obama’s always preaching to us producing Americans to Sacrifice for the anti-Americans…let’s TAKE something from the lazy and the ignorant, like you…and see if you are STILL all-in for handouts, for those who refuse to contribute…
Right, you Medicaid drawing piece of shit.
Others counter your Bull-S#!*, but your hatred of ME is so much more pronounced. I think it’s because I accurately describe you for who, and what, you are better than anyone else.
You lie, and even include me in the mythology that you create to turn your ignorance into religion. It must be because you read my Website, and it HITS you right between the eyes…am I correct?
It must be because you read my Website, and it HITS you right between the eyes…am I correct?
Why would any sane person read your website when we can get “HITS” between our eyes here with your delusional bullshit served with sides of bad grammer and punctuation? Can we look forward to that trickle down econ. running down your pant leg?
Thank you for supporting my contention. I really P!$$-off you simple-minded little liberal cretins. I do it by presenting to you (on my website) logical, revelations that NO ONE else gives you. And that makes you feel stupid, as you should. Yet they (FITS and the DNC, Obama does not care anymore) tell you, you are the ‘best and the brightest.’ You’re really the bottom of the barrel and dullest.
I get a daily view count. So I know how many of you see it, not to mention the attacks I get from the Twitter feed or by e-mail.
Lizenby ( the abortion-queen now working for Ravenel) got big numbers…..So I have to figure it’s FITS readers, because no one else knows who she is….
Also: Some of you are so Hilarious (like on here) in exposing the ignorance of liberals (and what they don’t know about themselves)….
That really gives me a BIG charge…..I really LOVE it. It’s addictive like a drug getting you P!$$#d off by defining you for what you really are…….but never told…
Wow! You took time out of your busy(?) day to write me four paragraphs. I’m so honored to be part of your delusional reality.
Man – Republicans are idiotic looking.
Aren’t they all? I, for one, believe every single one of them looks foolish when they open their mouth and say “Washington is broken,” or “I mean business.”
Maybe I’m just too cynical.
George Soros is enabling the persecution – uh–prosecution of the Gov. The state is obligated to fund his defense. Put the blame where it lies
More ignorance from Rouge. Howbout them commies under your bed? Or are you worried the gummint “taking over” your Medicare?
Both
Yeah, well maybe so, but even the Wizard of Oz can’t give him what the scarecrow already had – a brain.
The taxpayers are footing the bill for the baseless prosecution, why shouldn’t they fund his defense. The whole reason for this goat roping is because Gov. Perry withheld funding to a anti-corruption unit that is being led by a prosecutor who was arrested for DUI and while in custody repeatedly demanded that the jailers call the sheriff because he would not stand for her being locked up. In addition she was blaming the arresting officer and jailers for ruining her career. Like Perry or not why should a public integrity unit be funded if it is being led by someone who obviously lacks integrity. If she was not leading the unit he would not have vetoed.
