Libertarians typically side with radical leftist hate groups that support legalizing drugs, abortion on demand and the perversion of traditional marriage.
Siding with the ACLU, Planned Parenthood and the LGBT communities is “liberal” , not libertarian and they indeed have a PR problem in middle america.

Because while both liberals and conservatives find pieces and parts of libertarianism to be appealing, they find parts that don’t fit in with their world view, and they also find parts that neither of them would want.
Also, the few libertarian circles I snoop around in seem to be getting more and more ancaps, which I’m almost certain most every liberal/conservative would outright reject.
The only issue that defines rank and file Libertarians is legalization of weed.

When libertarians can start articulating the other side of the Faustian Bargain – such as eliminating the IRS, repealing the 14th Amendment, restoring the property rights stolen in the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s – vs just being a political conduit to legalize my next hit or paid screw I’ll sit up and start listening. Until then, uh, no thank you.
