SENATOR SAYS REPUBLICAN PARTY MUST BE “BIGGER, BETTER, BOLDER” TO WIN
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul brought a message of inclusiveness to the birthplace of secession this week, telling a packed crowd at a fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-South Carolina) that the Republican Party must expand its ideological borders in order to survive.
“We have to find a way to bring these new people into the party,” the prospective presidential candidate said, referring to the growing nexus of fiscally conservative, socially moderate independents.
“I’m not talking about changing our principles,” Paul added. “I’m not talking about changing our values. I’m talking about changing the way we talk about them – and in some cases changing who we talk to.”
Paul wasn’t just referring to people of different ideologies, either … something Mulvaney alluded to in his remarks introducing the Senator.
“If we don’t talk to gays, blacks and atheists, someone else will,” Mulvaney said. “And that someone else isn’t going to tell them what we really believe.”
During a question-and-answer session following the event, Paul was asked whether a GOP message of inclusiveness would ever be able to compete with the Democrats’ message of free money.
“The message has to be there’s no free lunch,” Paul said, arguing that free money ultimately places an affirmative obligation on taxpayers and reduces the purchasing power of all consumers.
“The value of your money shrinks,” Paul said.
Mulvaney chimed in on the question, too, saying “you’ve got to count on people’s ability to figure it out for themselves.”
Paul endorsed Mulvaney’s bid for a third term in the U.S. House, and nearly 400 supporters came out to Laurel Creek’s Magnolia Room – owned by S.C. Rep. Ralph Norman – to raise money for Mulvaney’s reelection.

“I’m not saying we should stop selling the same old turd, I’m just saying, well… Put it in a fancy box, wrap a bow around it, sprinkle a little perfume on it, and trick people into thinking there’s something other than a turd in there!”
We agree. They tried that with Hitler and Muslim Obama and it didn’t work.
Rand ain’t no Hitler/Muslim Obama however his desire to support his dad’s Looney tune platform of isolationism and despising Israel while sounding like All Sharpton on social justice makes him sound like Forest Gump/Pee Wee Herman and unelectable nationally.
unelectable nationally

yeah, but I voted for him anyway.
Speaking of fancy turds…

The cool thing about libertarians, as immoral plagiarists, can preach anything like they really believe it, but they vote Republican anyway – with regrets.
Rand Paul, on the other hand, will say any old damn thing.. wait, that’s the same hand!
Perfect!
Btw, Rand’s not a libertarian, he’s even said so himself.
He wants his fathers votes with none of the challenges of his father’s positions.
Rand is absolutely correct. A friend who works for a large corporate entity told me of speaking with a lot of co-workers who happened to be gay, who have generally conservative values and leanings, but who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Romney because of all the hate the establishment Republican Party likes to rain on them, pandering to the religious whackos. I really can’t say that I blame them.
Ditto atheists, Pagans, or any other group that the Christian political forces target as threats to their way of life. I don’t begrudge Christians living as they wish to live, believing what they wish to believe, but when they want to legislate everyone else’s lifestyle, what they can and cannot do, who they sleep with, when they can shop or not, drink or not, gamble or not, fuck or not, they have crossed over into territory very similar to that of the Muslims in the Middle East.
I’m not a Christian, but I get a case of the red ass with people bitching about Christmas decorations (secular OR religious) and like. I actually enjoy the festive atmosphere of love, forgiveness, family, as well as the music and decorations of that time of year.
I wish the Christian “majority” would just learn to live as they choose to live and get off of the backs of those who may not feel exactly the same. Until they do, the Republican Party would do well to distance itself from them.
As a devoted Christian, I agree with your comment. Christians should preach the gospel, but not try to force it on people through the government. I might also add that I disagree with the doctrines associated with the Temperance Movement, as it takes the Bible out of context. The Bible speaks of the joy of drinking wine as much as it speaks of the danger.
Brandon, I’m trying to “like” your comment but for some reason, the system is not letting me do it at the moment. Consider a “like” added to your comment, though. If more of your brethren thought as you do, you would probably see a lot more acceptance and maybe even converts.
Keep up the good work!
Right. Yet it is okay for the government to legalize over a million abortions of children a year.
You are a Tom Ervin kinda Christian-born again to try and get a partial-birth abortion democrat Sheheen elected and sanction gay marriage so mommy can be a hero at democrat party elitist-civic events.
How does abortion relate to the Temperance Movement? If someone wants to do something to their own body then that is different than murdering a child.
You seem to act as if I am in favor of abortion. I am in favor of letting people make their own choices about their own body, but I am not in favor of murdering children.
From a political standpoint, I think that the Federal Government should define abortion as murder. When a person commits murder, however, it is not the Federal government that prosecutes but rather the state governments.
You really have lost your fucking mind comparing ISIS with Biblical Christians in this country.
In regards to Romney and the Republican Party staying away from Biblical Christians. I agree about Romney. A good and decent man. Christians stayed home even though he was running against the anti-christ (?). A mistake. Your hero Harry Reid is a Mormon and that hurt Romney. Republicans staying away from Christians in this country? Go for it. Christian conservatives have held the line with your socialist democrat party despite ‘traitor tommy’type frauds like you. Pubs have picked up 2 senate seats, control the house and own 30 governorships since your hero Obama was elected. For the first time since the Civil War they control both the house and senate in a majority of states. Christians wlll give Pubs the senate again in November , despite a lunatic like Rand Paul.
You are dumber than Smirks.
I don’t recall specifically mentioning ISIS in my post, but if that floats your boat…
It was only what, 200-400 years ago that Christians were still burning, murdering, and torturing Witches. I believe a lot of those same Christians have returned to the present day. It wouldn’t take much in the way of words from a selected “spokesman of God” to get them doing it again, especially if a fertile legal environment for such existed.
The Muslim countries have strict laws and punishments for those who run astray of Islam. How much of a stretch is it when you would deny people basic rights, pleasures, and freedoms, because they don’t act as you do, believe as you do, or say what you do? Also, given that Islam is about 600 years younger than Christianity, I am guessing from this point, it will take them another 600 or so years to get to the same level of civilized behavior that Christianity now mostly demonstrates, where the beheadings, limb amputations, stonings, and the like are (hopefully) just a shameful and antiquated piece of their history.
Whatever gave you the idea that Reid is my “hero”? He is an enemy of freedom. Libertarians have a pretty much, “live and let live” philosophy. Harry is nowhere close to that.
I know many Libertarians that are Christians and they don’t mock and speak in a blasphemous manner against other “brothers/sisters” in Christ.
What the fuck? I notice you didn’t comment on the political/fact check I put on your silly ass in my previous post.
I also notice you denied your love of ISIS and Harry Reid yet failed to deny your god , Tom Ervin. :-)
So, being the ultra-Christian that you are, you really do support the lying, corrupt, dishonest, adultress, who is running for Governor?
Exactly. Sandi the Hack is Back!
Glad to be back Tom.I had to take a shit. System is clear.
Did I post that I was a “ultra-Christian”?
I have seen no reason to believe she is what you just described however I do think a socialist/libatardrarian calling her an “adultress” is ironic and hypocritical.Thought you Christ hating, ignorant SOB’s stayed out of people’s “personal” lives?
LMAO! How much is Ervin paying you and Fits?
the fact that you lumped socialists and libertarians together shows what an uneducated dolt you truly are. Socialism and libertarianism couldn’t be farther apart ideologically. Like most other moron Republican party hacks, you are more afraid of a TRUE Conservative who might actually get rid of say, 4-5 government agencies and cut a trillion dollars from the budget their first year in office, all because he might take a softer tone towards gay people and might advocate for weed to be decriminalized or legalized, than you are of these fraudsters who thump the bible and shout about starting another war, while giving you absolutely nothing but lip service in terms of dealing with the size and scope of the federal government and actually cutting spending by more than a rounding error.
Morons like yourself would rather elect a big-government, socialist-lite RINO evangelical like Huckabee or Santorum than a true limited-government conservative like Ron or Rand Paul. The fact that you save such vitriol for the ONLY true conservatives out there shows that YOU are nothing but a bible-thumping, SOCIALIST hack.
Is this where libratariantard for governor French ‘s wife shows us her tits again on Fits?
You libertariantards are more dangerous than liberals-the new version of moderates/RINO’s.
You don’t believe in a damn thing and your world view is shaped by the opinion that if you hate Christians and the church, support perverted lifestyles and abortion and legalizing drugs that dems/libs will like you and you qualify to shit in our streets at OWS rallies.
All I know is there are a few religions that somehow are accepting of newcomers, but don’t feel the need to force their beliefs down everyone else’s throats as a lot of Christian congregations seem to. Hindu’s, Buddhists, Sikhs, come to mind when thinking of religions who are content to do their thing but not feel the need to legislate their beliefs and way of living on everyone else.
It seems that you have spoken in a blasphemous manner towards me, yet I am a brother in Christ.
You said “You are a Tom Ervin kinda Christian-born again to try and get a partial-birth abortion democrat Sheheen elected and sanction gay marriage so mommy can be a hero at democrat party elitist-civic events.”
LOL, I have no idea who Tom Ervin is, but that comment was meant to be insulting obviously.
400 years ago is a long time ago. Sorry to break it to you.
Some things (and people) evolve and change at a very slow pace.
Christine O’Donnell, Todd Akin, Richard Murdoch, Sharron Angle…. that’s 4 seats “Christian Conservatives” cost us, and instead of looking at 56 or 57 seats (assuming a good November this year) we are now fighting just to get the majority. Evangelicals have run this party into the ground and cost us multiple, incredibly winnable elections, and drove the moderate of all moderates Mitt Romney to say a number of idiotic things he obviously didnt believe (self-deportation???)…. Look I’m a diehard Libertarian-Conservative, my actual beliefs on most issues are FAR to the right of so-called “Conservatives” like Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, etc…. but I am educated and adept enough to recognize that a Conservative majority is NOT achieved by running the equivalent of Ted Cruz in all 50 states…. run some firebrands solid-Red states, we NEED candidates like Mark Kirk to bring us states we wouldn’t normally win. THAT is how you win a majority. I think Rand Paul gets this and that’s why he’s been cordial with establishment figures.
And as bad as the GOP establishment can be, they know that this party cannot survive as the party of aging white southern evangelicals. Sorry but candidates who strongly oppose gay rights and support locking kids up for smoking weed have about ZERO chance of ever winning a presidential election again. The country has changed fast, and Republicans either have to stand consistently for liberty or the party might as well just dissolve and give up. The majority of the country is turned off by evangelicals like Rick Santorum and Bachmann. Outside of the evangelical south these people are laughed at and not taken seriously. Michele Bachmann is more likely to be President of Mars than President of the United States
“Rand is absolutely correct”
But CIC, Rand Paul does not want to change anything that the Republican Party believes – or does, once elected – he just does not want candidates to talk about it when they are running for election.
Here is what he said: ” ”I’m not talking about changing our values. I’m talking about changing the way we talk about them – and in some cases changing who we talk to.”
So “in some cases” talk to the gays and talk to the minorities and talk to the atheists but for God’s sake don’t tell them what you actually believe – especially if there is a chance that you are on camera or audio recording. It is all about “sleight of words” but it is the same old same old.
+20 Exactly. Its just more of the Mitt, I can’t tell you what I will do before the election, because I might not be elected. Rand is basically advising the GOP to keep its positions secrete, except in rooms filled with Republican donors, and then to be sure they are not recorded in those rooms.
“Its just more of the Mitt”
You and I don’t agree on much, but you are right on the mark on that one.
Rand Paul changes positions more than a weather vane in a tornado.
I don’t look at it that way. I look at it as he is tailoring his message to his audience.
Some people are opposed to that. In fact, his dad never tailored his messages.
On the other hand, some people think that it beneficial to tailor your message to your audience.
As an example, most of the apostles did not tailor their messages at all. The only one of the apostles who tailored his message to the different groups he was speaking to was Paul the apostle. Some argue that is why he had such success in gaining Christian converts.
Good point you bring up, SCBlues!
Yeah, OK…. that’s great that you think Christians should be more tolerant… think the Government is currently pretty tolerant of Christians?… or heck, just anybody that seeks personal freedoms and property rights. Tell you what Rand, I’ll be all “Big Tent” when we revisit the legislation of the 1960’s which effectively eliminated property rights in this nation. Basically, to enter into a faustian bargain to work with people I sincerely despise, I’ll need my personal space away from them. It’s as simple as that.
You trade the Christian votes for gays & atheists and the GOP loses even bigger, Rand’s an idiot.
You’ll never get hard core Christians to leave people alone, in their minds they are using government to save souls.
Rand is attracting a lot of people that wouldnt consider the gop… he has lot more support than most realize..with millennials… heres a good example . … http://www.yaliberty.org/convention/2014/report
Horseshit. He wouldn’t get 30% in Florida against Clinton.
Hey Saudi with no morals…Hilldabeast loses voters every time she speaks…with out help from anyone
I wouldn’t vote for him. Period. A loser and no chance in 2016. Barry Goldwater after dementia and liberalism enslaved him.
good. stay home. we dont need your vote. this party will be the majority party for years once we rid ourselves of neo-cons and bible thumpers and FINALLY can actually take a legitimate case for individual liberty and limited government to the American people.
Ole Rand called Hillary a “war hawk” today. Sweet Jesus. Clinton wanted to impeach Bush for Iraq.
Are Fidel and Raul Castro providing the “talking points” for racist daddy and Rand?
LOL, Florida also has more older generations and less millennials.
Paul would have zero shot at taking down Hillary in 2016, though most serious republican candidates would have about same odds.
When you cite a website devoted to the Paul’s, everyone knows that your source is biased.
Racism isn’t a principle or a value as Paul seems to think. As far as he and other republicans are concerned it is simply something they can use to get ignorant southerners to vote for them who are too stupid to realize they are voting against their own self interest even though they have benefited from the civil rights movement too.
I got to see Will from afar. I was too in awe to say hi. Will, you are taller and thinner than I thought.
It’s simple really. The evangelicals attempt to use the government to lead to a new revival is a flawed strategy that has led to them being marginalized. American history shows that revival happens out side of Washington and when it comes to town it loses it force.
So here the deal, we freedom loving people who want to stop the democrats from sniffing out the last bastions of liberty in this country will keep the government out of your churches and you can go about trying to affect the culture (which is the way every revival has happened in American history) . You have to be an utter igoranmous to think you can ban abortion or stop gay marriage if you don’t convince people through affecting the culture, simply arguing your point won’t work.
With that said you will keep quite, vote for freedom loving cannidates and stop coatings use elections by stupid comments about women having natural defense against getting pregnant when raped. Ok?
It’s a lot like scoring with chicks at a bar. How do you infer “I love you” when you really mean “I want to use you”? It’s a tricky game. The problem is – come the next morning – you really can’t go to that bar again for a few weeks.
heh heh, heh-heh you said come
You’re cracking me up. I wonder if Sandi ever says that word.
