YOU CAN ONLY GO SO FAR WITH IT …
Texas Gov. Rick Perry – the crony capitalist who was recently indicted in his home state on abuse of power charges – probably thought he was safely aboard the bipartisan bandwagon when he added to the recent rash of fearmongering over the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
After all, there is no shortage of over-the-top rhetoric coming out of Washington, D.C. with regard to this group (which is curious considering how recently our leaders were supporting them).
Anyway, during an address to the “neoconservative” Heritage Foundation this week, Perry alleged that ISIS fighters weren’t just planning to attack American targets from abroad – according to him, they’re already here.
“There’s the obvious great concern that, because of the condition of the border from the standpoint of it not being secure, and us not knowing who is penetrating across, that individuals from ISIS or other terrorist states could be (crossing),” Perry said. “There’s a very real possibility that they may have already used that (strategy).”
Surprisingly, the administration of Barack Obama viewed that statement as a “Fearmonger Bridge” too far.
“I’ve seen no indication that they are coming across the border with Mexico,” a top Pentagon spokesman told CNN. “We have no information that leads us to believe that.”
Ouch … “Fearmonger Fail.”
Here’s the thing: We don’t doubt that ISIS is actively trying to ramp up its attacks on American targets. Why shouldn’t they?
In fact we would humbly suggest that the elevated ISIS threat is due in no small part to America’s botched nine-year occupation of Iraq.
Does that make Perry’s assertion accurate? No … it just means that there’s no way additional military intervention is going to make us “safer.” It’s going to do nothing but provoke an attack … which may be what the fearmongers are hoping for.
