SINGER ATTENDS PRIVATE SCREENING OF DOCUMENTARY IN COLUMBIA

liz gunnBy Liz Gunn  ||  Tonight Columbia, S.C. paid host to a very special guest. And while it wasn’t the first time Grammy winning pop/country singer Kenny Chesney has visited the famously hot city, this time he wasn’t here to sing.

Chesney flew in Friday night for an uber-private screening of a documentary featuring South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier, held at Williams-Brice Stadium with the Spurrier family and very few, lucky guests.

In July, it was reported by Rolling Stone  that Chesney had co-produced the documentary titled “The Believer.”

The one hour biopic is all about the legendary head coach, as part of the “SEC Storied” series.

“They spent a lot of time with my family, wife, kids, grandkids and so forth, and a lot of former players. So hopefully it will turn out ok,” Spurrier said at a recent SEC media day event, in true nonchalant Head Ball Coach fashion.

“The Believer” will air (where else) on the SEC Network at 8:00 p.m. EDT on August 27th – the eve of the network’s inaugural live football broadcast (which features Spurrier’s team – the No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks – going up against the No. 20/21 Texas A&M Aggies).

The Gamecocks are currently favored by 10.5 at home in the first live game to be aired on the network.

Gamecock fans and football fans alike should enjoy the piece, which will include Spurrier’s tenure as a Heisman winning quarterback at Florida University, his brief stint in the NFL and how he made believers out of Gamecock nation.

The SEC Network can be found on channel 611 (DirecTV), channel 607/1607 (AT&T U-Verse), and channel 404 (Dish Network). Time Warner Cable subscriber channels will vary depending on your lineup.

Liz Gunn is a wife, mom, author, businesswoman, travel enthusiast, food snob, fashionista, lover of great wine and the No. 1 Gamecock football fan … ever.  A graduate of the University of South Carolina, she lives in Columbia, S.C. with her husband and daughter.

What is Florida University?! Coots..sheesh. Expected at least a shade more journalistic integrity…or common sense. Especially coming from such a proclaimed college (SEC) football fan.

Remember when Spurrier was the most hated man in Columbia when UF would be in town? USC fans used to spit on him and players as they came out onto the field.
