“WITH THEIR TANKS AND THEIR BOMBS AND THEIR BOMBS AND THEIR GUNS …”

Yeah we’re quoting The Cranberries … what of it?

As America descends into a militarized police state, “tanks and bombs and guns” are about to become a lot more prevalent on our “Main Streets.”

Unlike the entire “progressive” movement in America, we haven’t rushed to judgment regarding what happened on Saturday on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri – the St. Louis suburb where an unarmed 18-year-old black man named Michael Brown was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer. Two totally conflicting story lines have emerged – one from witnesses to the incident, the other from police.

Eventually, we suspect evidence will emerge to justify the one or the other – or some combination of both.

What’s not up for debate? The overreaction of the U.S. police state …

No doubt in my mind the Police,Judges,Courts,Lawyers and anyone that cant take your freedom away needs more scrutiny but that does not mean they need to be disarmed or pushed in a corner. American streets within the next 10 years will look like a foreign country simply because of the way the US Justice Dept.,The President and politicians circumvent the rule of law!

I notice that they are not giving out the name of the police officer. Totally understandable.

I also notice that they are not saying what his race is…. jus’ sayin, jus’ saying….. Wouldn’t it be funny if………..

His name is George Zimmerman…he was recently hired by the St. Louis PD on recommendation from a certain Wayne LaPierre.

“What’s not up for debate? The overreaction of the U.S. police state”

That is up for debate. The police are trying to protect homes and businesses.

What’s not up for debate? The overreaction of the protesters acting at night and providing cover for looters and arsonist. Unwilling to wait for local, state and federal investigations.

What say you on the press being essentially arrested and detained and bullied?
You don’t have a problem with a local police force, like Cayce for comparison, turning up with armored vehicles, assault weapons, full riot gear, tear gas and the like?

Where is Cliven Bundy in all of this? Where are the while militias swooping down to defend us from an aggressive and threatening law enforcement presence….oh yeah…it’s because the people are black and they don’t give a shit about black people.

Mike at the Beach August 14, 2014 at 8:24 pm

More efficient, anyway.

Bible Thumper August 14, 2014 at 8:00 pm

I said “That is up for debate.” I did not say I approved. Sure the military appearance of the the equipment is possibly inflammatory, but would you want to face that crowd without that equipment? There has been no serious injuries from the use of this equipment. In fact it has probably prevented injuries.

Bringing in another police force may help if they are not seen as protecting the police officer involved in the shooting.

The Clive Bundy protester who pulled a gun should have been arrested. I’m for law and order; left or right; black or right.

Fits said “we haven’t rushed to judgment regarding what happened on Saturday on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri”. He has rushed to judgment when he said “What’s not up for debate? The overreaction of the U.S. police state … ”

A protester was shot and killed, another was critically injured. They have been using both non-lethal and lethal rounds and full on riot tactics against people merely protesting. They have unlawfully arrested and detained individuals who are well within their first amendment rights to film, document and record proceedings.
I am with Fitsy on this one, the police have overreacted to say the least.

Bible Thumper August 14, 2014 at 8:28 pm

I haven’t found any serious injuries to protesters. One person protecting his property was hospitalized by looters.
Also most of the injuries occurred on Saturday night before the riot gear was used.
The article I read said 10 injuries including three policemen.

truthmonger August 15, 2014 at 7:04 pm

At what point is burning down buildings and shooting at helicopters “merely protesting”?????

sparklecity August 14, 2014 at 3:57 pm

That cartoon says a lot for the situation these days
Now we know the reason for the obscene price of ammunition now days
it’s NOT the jack-booted federal thugs in black helicopters buying up the ammo causing the price increase it’s your friendly local police department!!!!!!!
I jest but there is a kernal of truth to this matter. It is an established fact that police departments are doing more marksmanship training and along with that comes the requirement for more training ammo.
And honestly the MAIN reason for the increase in the price of ammo is due to right-wingnut HOARDING but increased firearms training by law enforcement across the spectrum has contributed to the price increase but it’s hard to figure why the price of .38 Special went up as well (no cop uses .38 Special anymore)
Recently I saw a crawler on the bottom of my TV (via a cable news network program – maybe Fox) that a state representaive in Virginia is proposing that ONLY law enforcement be authorized to possess body armor.
it is already illegal (in most states) to wear body armor while in the process of committing a crime (which is perfectly understandable). But banning body armor for anyone EXCEPT law enforcement will send the wrong signal and further the percepton that civilian law enforcement is now a para-military organization.

The way things are going these days, wearing kevlar might not be a bad idea!!!!

The police do need the practice, remember the guy in NYC the cops shot nineteen times, they fired 41 rounds and the farthest of the four cops was approximately 30 feet away.

What is scary is how many agencies have dumbed down their qualification courses to only 15 yards as the maximum distance a target is shot from. Geeze, back in the 60’s and 70’s and even into the 80’s, most qualifications had you shooting rounds out to 50 yards.

Reply
CorruptionInColumbia August 14, 2014 at 7:15 pm

“(no cop uses .38 Special anymore)”

Depends. SC Dept Of Corrections remains probably the largest Criminal Justice Agency to use .38 revolvers left in SC. Even now, only their SWAT (or like acronym) team and maybe a few privileged characters in that agency carry anything other than .38 revolvers.

A lot of cops carry lightweight 5-shot .38 Spl revolvers as backup and off-duty still, as do a good number of citizens.

I’m talking about the service weapon for line duty cops, not prision guards who keep the weapons locked up in the control center.
Back up snub nose .38 are no factor whatsoever for the reason for ammo going out the roof across the board.
i was just using .38 special as an example of what USED to be standard service revolver for law enforcement till the mid-70’s when most went to .357 magnum before going to the semi-automatic pistols later on.

I would describe the individuals causing problems as lawbreakers or criminals who are turning what should be a peaceful demonstration into something else entirely. I agree the police should be present and should deal with those persons, although I agree with the concerns Will and others have pointed out.

I think a lot of the comments on the other post devolved into massive stereotyping bordering on hate, though, which is what I was pointing out.

Have you watched the video of Michael Brown’s uncle trying to get to his nephew’s body and being stopped?
And a fun fact to know and tell – Ferguson is 67% African American. There are three African American officers on the fifty-three man police force. You do the math.

His nephew’s body was part of a crime scene. I understand that part. As to % of a profession based on race…. THAT I don’t understand. What you are saying is that, in order to AVOID being racist, we must BE racist by mandating a quota? Better question is this: What percentage of applicants are black, and what objective standards are in place to hire the BEST person for the job, regardless of race? By YOUR lights, Blues, professional sports needs to set quotas, too.

No, they haven’t. That’s a Lefty MYTH. Ask the Turks and Rom. In many respects, Germany and most European countries (esp. France) are MORE racist than the US.
And most of Europe is ethnically homogeneous. That has a LOT to do with things. Increases in immigrants to Great Britain have DRAMATICALLY increased the violent crime rate there.

I hate the militarization of the police.
And I also hate the rash, race-baiting sensationalism and looting and rioting over this incident that — as it is most likely turning out — wasn’t about race at all. With the news that Michael Brown is almost assuredly the guy who strong-armed an old shop owner and stole cigars just minutes before the shooting, it seems plausible (if not likely) that this big aggressive criminal was very much complicit in the initial shooting that happened in the police car. Whether the subsequent shooting was justified is debatable, but it certainly was not an incidence where he was shot simply for being black.

Huey Newton August 15, 2014 at 4:33 pm
