ALWAYS UP TO NO GOOD …
Neck deep in his own corruption, U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn saw the bad headlines shift to his daughter this week.
Mignon Clyburn – best known for her 2010 declaration that “every nappy-headed child in America” deserves to be connected to the internet – is embroiled in a scandal involving Comcast and Time Warner. The two companies were set to donate a combined $132,000 to a dinner honoring Clyburn – a member of the Federal Communications Commission.
Why is that shady? Well, Clyburn is currently reviewing the proposed $45 billion merger between the two companies – and the two companies doling out money for a dinner in her honor doesn’t sit well with Washington watch dogs.
Nor should it … that’s the definition of “wining and dining.”
Jordan Morrisey of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) says payoffs like this are standard operating procedure for companies like Comcast.
They represent “one of the more under the radar moves in Comcast’s merger playbook — a playbook that also emphasizes lobbying, campaign contributions and winning support from third-party groups, especially those representing minorities,” Morrisey wrote.
Under pressure, both Comcast and Time Warner have decided to yank their sponsorships. The two companies are still doling out big bucks to the Walter Kaitz Foundation, the group that’s honoring Clyburn – but they won’t be giving money directly to the dinner that celebrates her as a “diversity advocate.”
“We do not want either (Commissioner Clyburn) or Kaitz to fall under a shadow as a result of our support for diversity in the cable industry, which is why we are withdrawing our support for the dinner,” a letter from Comcast to the foundation noted.
For the record … we don’t care about the Comcast-Time Warner merger, which is being opposed by Netflix (and others) on the grounds it unfairly expands the company’s market share for internet service. Comcast would control 35.5 percent of the nation’s wired internet market if the deal goes through, although the company says focusing on that percentage is “misguided” and that the FCC should examine its share in each individual market.

Does anyone see a pattern?. I use to have a real estate agent who said he closes 94% of his business on the Golf Coarse:-) Nothing seems to have changed:-) Love it. Close that deal.
I have an agent that closes 74% of all of her business in the bedroom of our model homes. A former dancer who worked 6 nights per week she now works 6 days per month.
Dear Bob
Any chance I could take a tour of your model home
If you have a discount progam for owb’s, I qualify
thanks for your time
jimlewis,owb
Bet you could up that to Stefonick’s 94% number if you installed a pole in said bedroom for the “hard” sell when necessary.
“Comcast and Time Warner .. yanked .. sponsorships .. still doling out big bucks to .. Foundation, .. group .. honoring Clyburn .. won’t be giving money directly to .. her..”
Had a few minutes thought I would clean up your paragraph to better represent the facts of the issue
Fucking Cockroaches
“Directly” being the operative word….
Clyburn is just as qualified to serve on the FCC as she was to serve on the SCPSC>
Corruption comes in all races and political parties. How it is dealt with upon discovery is what separates the good from the bad. Don’t count on any apologies or resignations, never going to happen with this Administration and many in the have done far worse.
What are Mignon’s qualifications for this position… I mean besides having the last name Clyburn? It’s kind of like Mikey Campbell getting that $100,000/year position by Haley, not because he’s an expert in the area but because his last name is Campbell, the son of a governor that the people of South Carolina equate to Kennedy.
You won’t find that sentiment toward Daddy Campbell in the Lowcountry. While Governor all he cared about was Greenville-Spartanburg and BMW in particular.
Campbell is Teflon to those who idolize him. Even if he left office to become a $1million a year insurance lobbyist.
11 years on the PSC, which isn’t impressive at all. Last names mean a lot in Washington.
Also, Tom Wheeler is the chairman, who was basically a huge fucking lobbyist for cable TV. I don’t think Obama’s interested in finding competent people who work in communications and want to keep companies in line.
Shouldn’t Enos and The Kenyan be playing golf on a fairway and not in a forest?
They were sharing a
spliffquiet minute while playing golf.Perhaps the best place for the Kenyan is a golf course
Since deciding to be on permanent vacation for the remainder of his term he has ordered all sand traps to be removed from all golf courses under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government
Actually the Q ordered the removal – she was tired of hearing him bitch about sand in his vagina
2-Star general laid to rest, The Kenyan spends his day on the golf course.
The highest-ranking U.S. military officer to be killed in America’s
post-9/11 wars will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
A burial service will be held Thursday afternoon for Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene.
The two-star general was an engineer who worked his way up through
the ranks in a 34-year Army career. Most of it was spent developing,
building and supplying soldiers with equipment and technology.
Greene’s deployment to Afghanistan in January was his first to a war
zone. He was killed on Aug. 5 when a gunman believed to be an Afghan
soldier opened fire at a military academy near Kabul.
The 55-year-old Greene lived in Falls Church, Virginia, and is
survived by his wife and two grown children, including a son who is an
Army lieutenant.

How dare them swarthy Clyburns acting like the Thurmonds and the Wilsons, just to start the list!!
Fits has covered less swarthy people receiving money.
Haley from Georgia
Graham from Sheldon Adelson
Most recently Lee Bright from Novant Health.
So I’ve been curious, what is your personal hell? Are you a government mule locked away in a cubicle someplace that gets the occasional peek at Fits through a proxy?
:)
My hell is more multifaceted than that. There are droves of the demonic to bedevil me at almost every turn. On some days the crowd at Fits is among the more rational that I have to endure. The searing sulfur may come as a solace.
Why would you even bother to report this?…it has NO political value.
Like Rangel or Obama — no matter what they do, you Dumb@$$ liberals will trod back over and over, through the Corridor of Shame, and put the same old tired losers back in power. They just keep robbing you blind, and the uneducated will just get more ignorant, with each generation. There is NO scandal that can take out a Black Democrat.
Fits post photo of black person – here come the racists!
Fits is so racist. Thomas Ravenel is a proven criminal but loved. Clyburn is a decent black lawmaker and hated.
Ravenel was prosecuted — is the only difference. Clyburn is untouchable in this contry in 2014.
The racism against non-Democrat whites is more widespread, and government-sanctioned, than any of the Bull-$#it from the past liberals cling to…
Ravenel was prosecuted — is the only difference.
So Clyburn is dealing cocaine?
I could MUCH more overlook Clyburn dealing coke, than his immoral taking of the peoples’ will, by being placed in a Race-Hate-Based, gerrymandered Congressional district.
One crime – coke dealing – is called what it is, and prosecuted. But thanks to legislated liberal religous dogma, the other crime, taking power for the ruling elite class – is hailed as virtue by the ignorant and educated (like you)….
Clyburn is a decent black lawmaker
Black? Well, yeah, I guess so. Decent lawmaker? lol…
They were coon hunting, not golfing.
Money is green-corruption has no color.
For the record … we don’t care about the Comcast-Time Warner merger
I do. Fuck Comcast and fuck monopolization.
Monopolies are usually bad for consumers.
It’s another lesson from the original Gilded Age that we seem to have to learn again.
Don’t worry, I’m sure our corporate masters will give us enough company scrips to buy bread and water at the company store.
I am the only white guy living in a very old African-American neighborhood in Hanahan, a suburb of Charleston. Several of my black neighbors have large pieces of property that has been in their families for over 150 years (heirs property). This is prime residential land and developers are drooling over the prospect of grabbing it… by hook or by crook.
Over the last ten years thousands of cheaply constructed but expensive new homes have been constructed within a quarter mile of our neighborhood. My neighbors are sitting on roughly 250-300 acres of beautiful old Lowcountry forest land. Lots of deer, turkeys, foxes, birds, etc.
Anyway, when the surrounding neighborhoods were being developed we were excluded from upgrades to sewage, water, high-speed internet, etc. (Imagine that!) We finally got city water after a struggle.
The thing that galled me the most was that no upgrades were installed to give us high-speed internet service. I contacted Mignon Clyburn twice about this issue and, in both communications, I told her about the nature and history of my neighborhood.
and the problems we were having with Comcast and AT&T. I didn’t hear a word from her. No response whatsoever. So much for concern for her African-American brothers and sisters.
Time Warner Comcast merger is a clear and obvious violation of the Anti-Trust Act. It should not be approved, just like the ATT takeover of T Mobile was not allowed. When Bush allowed the Verizon rape takeover of Alltel on his way out of office. Bush directly allowed the destruction of the number 1 cell phone company in America. The loss of thousands of jobs, and the actual removal of hundred of redundant cell towers. Causing Higher prices for cell service, a lot worse cell service reliability, massive taxpayer costs for picking up unemployed Alltel workers out of work, and etc. These type mergers should never be approved. In fact: these now unregulated monopolies should be broken up. Just like Judge Green did in the early 1980s to ATT. Which set off the largest economic expansion in USA History. Competition creates Free Enterprise successes while Consolidation is the enemy of Free Enterprise.
Monkey see monkey do
What ever happened to the Clyburn corruption and loss of millions at SCSU? Are the feds and state investigating that shit?
LOL…….just look at the comments. No one nails the real timing of this dinner..!
Right before the November elections..? Gotta luv it..!! This is all about putting screws to Jim Clyburn and Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott and some future Palmetto investment. Just think….how do you make a “whip” squirm..? Go after his daughter with a lollipop. (AKA…Chitty, Chitty Bang, Bang tactic 601..) Dare to ask how much campaign donations have been slipped into some incumbent “war chests”..!? Mignon may be on a merger oversight board but look at WHO sits on certain “voting SEATS”..?
My BACKSIDE…!!!! Dare to wonder where BOEING pensions are invested..? Dare to wonder who gets royalties from COMCAST easement access…!? Dare to wonder how Time Warner influences the advertising rates on radio, TV and the web during the election run-up….!?
Ms. Mignon had better get her head out of the “clouds”..!!!
