DEMOCRAT: “WILL McMASTER RUBBER STAMP THE GOVERNOR’S HANDLING OF THIS CRISIS?”
Numerous Republican elected officials in South Carolina have bucked the leader of their party – Gov. Nikki Haley – regarding the ongoing scandals at the S.C. Department of Social Services (SCDSS). S.C. Sen. Katrina Shealy and State Rep. Jenny Horne are two names that come to mind … with Shealy holding hearings into the agency’s mismanagement and Horne demanding an audit of its finances and operations.
Who hasn’t uttered a peep on the scandal? Henry McMaster – the former Attorney General who is currently running for lieutenant governor of the Palmetto State.
McMaster was challenged to confront the scandal this week by Bakari Sellers – the moderate Democrat who is running against him for lieutenant governor.
“Children are dying and nothing seems to be getting done by the current administration,” Sellers said. “So I ask my opponent Henry McMaster, if he will rubber stamp the Governor’s handling of the crisis?”
Sellers also challenged McMaster to say whether he “believed the so-called ‘welfare-to-work’ gains touted by Haley in her latest television advertisement were legitimate.” Because there’s plenty of speculation as to whether that’s the case …
“He’s benefitting from her ads as a Republican on the ticket so he ought to say whether he thinks those gains are real,” Sellers said.
Former SCDSS director Lillian Koller resigned in June amid a flood of scandals – including allegations of manipulated data in its child welfare, food stamp and welfare-to-work divisions.
Most of those scandals broke exclusively here on FITS …
Sources familiar with the SCDSS audit requested by Horne tell FITS it is expected “any day now,” a development that’s likely to breathe new life into the scandal and create additional headaches for Haley and the rest of the GOP ticket.

What is it with your pics these days Will? First you have Sheheen playing with plastic dog poop (I guess), now Bakari is apparently doing press conferences from a land fill? Or is that Grand Tango’s back yard?
Did anyone ever figure out what was being reflected on the side of the airplane?
The Boeing photo is a strange one…
Are you ready to discuss your attempt to accumulate the remaining stores of Geritol from the Bahamas?
perhaps later this month…. I’m beginning to get suspicious that you may be associated with an “initialed” agency……
Where on earth did you get a Mentor?
Well, let me put it this way– it used to be “on earth” but it’s now “under ocean” so the story goes …..
Perhaps a hooters recruiter?
I’m going with the reflection being of an acre of misplaced luggage.
Maybe that he took a wrong turn….
I don’t know, COL. I think I see a mosque dome back in that photo to the left- this could be the ol’ “Look at me, I went to the holy land!” pic. Or, it could be a landfill…
Yeah, that is the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. That picture looks like it was taken from the Mount of Olives, cited many times in the New Testament. If you’re a Christian and you go to Israel you will want to go to the Mount of Olives. At the foot of the Mount is the Garden of Gethesmane, where Jesus was praying when the Romans came for him.
Very good – I completely missed the golden dome!
+10
Thanks- I thought as much. I’ve done a few work trips in Israel and that area of the world, but I am yet to have time to do the tourist stuff. One day…

But you repeat yourself.
Could be true, I’ll take it up with the Department of Redundancy Department…
Talk about a race of little interest, and a candidate who has to try to make it about the sitting governor. Good luck with that.
Go Bakari! Hopefully, a defeat of gasbag McMaster will send a message to him that SC is tired of him and his establishment Republican politics. Besides, since we pissed away our right to select Governors and Lt Governors from different parties in a referendum a couple of years ago, this will be our last chance to do this. No, I wouldn’t vote for Bakari just to take advantage of a right we voted ourselves out of, but I really think he is the better candidate of the two. With him in office, it will be nice not to have to hear from Gasbag Henry every day.
CiC, Bakari is a nice enough guy, I’ve met him on several occasions, But we need to look at the big picture. If the Republicans win big in 16 Nikki will , more than likely, move up the pecking order. Henry is positioning himself to finally be governor. Although Henry is establishment to the bone , he is still a better choice for Lt. Gov. than Bakari. Still haven’t figured out why Bakari gave up a safe hose seat to be a bug on Henry’s windshield. He is either going for Hutto’s seat in 16 or trying to take Clyburn’s seat when he retires. Stay tuned.
Hi RogueElephant! In my book, more reasons to keep Nikki down and keep Henry down. I really don’t want to see Sheheen as Governor (especially since he will likely make Leon Lott the Chief Of Stop Let’s Eat Donuts), but Nikki’s shameless corruption and self-serving behaviors since taking office do not need to be rewarded with another four years in office and a climb up the Republican Establishment ladder of corruption in SC, which smells worse with each passing day. My hopes (and I know you disagree) are that somehow we get Ervin in there and if he screws up, find suitable replacements in four years who are NOT Haley or McMaster.
Bakari would likely be better than Jim Clyburn on most days of the week.
We need to stop rewarding these corrupt RINO’s such as Haley, Lindsey, and more, simply because they have the “R” next to their name. They are no different than the Democrats who many dislike and in many ways they are worse due to the false labeling on the package.
“Stop Let’s Eat Donuts” + 100. Best one I’ve heard lately.
I still go back to rule #1 The worst Republican ex. Graham, is better than the best Dim. (Can’t think of one). I guess it is just me, but the basic philosophy of the Dims. the gimmie gimmie attitude of the entire party keeps me from entertaining the idea of ever voting for one. The Liberaltarians are too far toward the anarchy side. We need some govt. So that leaves us with too many RINOs.
Just how short is that leash Nikki has on Henry anyway?? Whatever the length, he’s been wearing it TIGHT since he caved for her in the ’10 runoff.
Henry knew exactly what Haley was/did/hid and chose unashamedly the win over principle. Henry McMaster is a game player-not a game changer!
I say boy dont you know you is questioning a highly respected pillar of the community…I want be signifying that with an answer …Haley is a respectful southern bell and you want be tarnishing her beloved image on my watch.. love and puppies…Henry….
Very, very many of the same problems that exist in DSS Child Protective Services exist in DSS Adult Protective Services. There is no meaningful oversight from the DSS State Office and some of the county offices are outlaw. DSS Spokesperson Marilyn Mattheus doesn’t respond to emails about some of these problems.
The Lt. Gov.’s Office on Aging needs to get involved in pushing for DSS Adult Protective Services to get the same legislative oversight that DSS CPS has very belatedly received. Why would anyone think that DSS’s problems exist in only one of its protective services programs? And, they are even easier to hide in APS because there is no computer documented ‘screen out’ process at all in Adult Protective Services.
That’s what Bakari and Henry need to be finding out about and talking about.
Geez, Sellers, from the legislature, bears more responsibility for DSS issues than a McMaster that has been out of office for how long now? Red herrings!
Where are the white women at?
