CANDIDATE BACKS INTERESTING MIX OF POLICIES …
Self-styled “independent Republican” gubernatorial candidate Tom Ervin has a new television advertisement up – one that lays out the basics of his economic program.
The ad – entitled “Common Sense” – features the former lawmaker and judge from Greenville, S.C. touting policies he believes will turn the state’s struggling economy around.
“Raise your hand if you think our economy is where it should be,” Ervin says in the thirty-second spot. “Now, raise it if you think it’s getting better? I don’t see a lot of hands.”
How could he? South Carolina’s labor participation rate is at its lowest level ever – and income levels in the Palmetto State are falling further behind the rest of the country.
Ervin’s solutions? He’d start with eliminating the individual income tax – an idea that’s near and dear to our hearts. He also wants to raise the minimum wage (an idea we oppose) and provide tax credits for small businesses (an idea we’re lukewarm on).
Additionally, Ervin says he would “stand tall for our port of Charleston,” an obvious shot at incumbent “Republican” Nikki Haley’s controversial accommodation of Georgia’s port expansion plans.
Here’s the spot …

Ervin, Haley, Democrat Vincent Sheheen and Libertarian Steve French are all vying for the governor’s mansion in 2014.

Oh God Cue Sandi The Haley Troll…..Let me put it in a fit….
TOM ERVIN WILL BE THE NEXT GOVERNOR OF SOUTH CAROLINA 2015…YEAH THAT WILL DO IT.
In before Sandi and Tango come over to make comparisons of Ervin to Obama and Luicfer’s love child.
Ervin-William policy postions apparently mirror Obama’s..Lucifer, Na although the ad where he used the widow for political purposes was weird, spooky and reminded me of a scene from the Exorcist. :-)
Finding Charlie Thompson Passed in 2009 Has 2 surviving children Had his own business
Sandi at least makes money off of it. GrandTango is dumb enough to do it for free.
As with all Republicans he neglected to say how he will make up for getting rid of income taxes. Another 1/2 a plan. Half a plan is not better than no plan at all. How will you replace the revenue, or what will you cut if you aren’t. These are simple questions.
He is not a Republican, He is trying to destroy the SC Republican Party by electing Democrat Sheheen.
Then I am good with it. The SC Republican party needs to be destroyed before they destroy the rest of us. But he still sounds like a typical Republican to me. No answers, just BS promises that will have to be paid for by hard working middle income taxpayers.
Tom, that’s easy. You jump up and down, spin around three times all while repeating the name of Arthur Laffer over and over. Then money magically appears. And the best thing about this plan is the more you cut taxes the more money you have; and if you eliminate taxes completely you have infinite money.
The Book of Laffer, written on the Holy Napkin, is a sacred part of the Tea Party Republican religion. How dare you mock Supply Side Jesus and his disciples!
Tom Ervin- Williams is running on the ‘Obama/Democrat-Socialist Platform’.
Ervin-Williams is supporting state sanctioned gay marriage and raising the minimum wage (which will close small businesses, result in layoffs and raise the price of goods and services) while eliminating any surplus by eliminating tax revenue and giving away tax breaks to business.
“Mix of politics”? How about “Mixed-up politics”? Quit the Democrat Party. Quit the Republican Party. Allegedly running as Independent while the wife has given the Democrat Party Governor candidate Vincen Sheheen (HIS ALLEGED OPPONENT HA HA HA) THOUSANDS of dollars. Public records apparently show his wife gave the SC Democrat Party $50,000 in 2010. $10,000 to Sheheen shortly before the 2010 governor’s election.

Poor Sandi’s sooo scared!
It’s the gay marriage part. It scares hell outta Republicans.
Since Ervin-Williams supports gay marriage he is then a Democrat, by your logic. You are as confused as Ervin-Williams.
You mean nobody else saw the part where Ervin said he wanted to shut down health insurance companies, nationalize the hospitals, and force government health care on all of us? Pretty sure it came after the part where he was going to take away all our guns and before the part where he demanded instituting Sharia law on the whole state.
Oh, wait, none of that happened. Sandi must be drunk at Calloways again.
Mental heaith services are available. You appear to be depressed. Reach out for help. It is not worth….
Let your family at FITS know if you need help!
“Sandi must be drunk at Calloways again.”
Tsk,Tsk…anonymous bloggers are not protected from the consequences of libelous and defaming comments. One thing to go after me (anonymous blogger or a public figure)-quiet another to libel a private business that is owned by REAL people.
Just ask ‘Elmer Fudd’ in Myrtle Beach. Carry on moron.I will forward your regards to Calloways.
Hmmm, call me intrigued; are you saying a bar can sue because someone said and unidentified person was drunk at the bar or are you saying its libelous to a bar to imply you were there?
I swear Tango and Sandi are the same person if they believe that line of logic…
The gentle whispering was creepy. It was a tone better suited to reading “Goodnight Moon” than discussing small “bidness” tax credits. Just sayin’
I agree. He sounds like a sicko old dude trying to talk some young sweet thing into doing something w/ him. If I was on a jury he was in front of, I’d be creeped out.
I kind of hear Lowell from “Wings” when I listen to his voice.
Robin Williams dead at 63.
If the FIRST Word out of his mouth is NOT Obma-Conomy, he is an ignorant MoFo. To be slow to understand WHO did this to our country, IMMEDIATELY dis-qualifies any candidate….
This fool is a Democrat is why he is clueless, and unable to admit the truth.
“Fix our crumbling roads and bridges.”
How?
&
Who pays?
Do you believe our infrastructure can be properly maintained without raising taxes? Just curious.
I do believe we need to scrap boondoggles and run things better, but I’m not sure if that will be enough on its own.
The same old tired Republican crap — tax breaks for the rich.
Since Ervin-Williams supports tax breaks for the rich he is a Republican , by your logic. You are as confused as Ervin-Williams.
State income taxes are paid by the poor as well, but obviously to a lesser degree. My biggest worry is what that cut will be replaced with. It is usually either sales tax, which fucks the lower/middle class more, or nothing, which creates deficits the likes of which may cost prominent Republican politicians their seats, a la Sam Brownback.
In before “Ermagherd, Smirks, Texas is doing fine! Please ignore their booming oil industry and the myriad of crap statistics that come with their craptastic state government’s management!”
By raising the state minimum wage to 12.00 an hour, allowing salaried employees who work over 40 hours base plus half, by lowering the state sales tax to 4%, by allowing counties to add up to 4% local penny option sales taxes,by raising the gas tax .15 cents for gas, .25 cents for diesel, by raising the “sin” taxes on cigarettes, blunts, cigars, wine, beer, booze, by replacing the 5% corporate tax with a .08% Gross Sales Receipt tax, by reforming how schools are funded by removing property taxes then dividing the state into 23 school districts funded only by the state casino gambling and education lottery proceeds will pave the way for 30 hour work weeks where SC gets out of the healthcare subsidy business. You see that, sports fans? Ervin? Real solutions, solid math, and reduced dependence on state government.
“By raising the minimum wage to $12.00/hr “.—You would shut down about a third of small businesses, and increase the cost to the public for those that can pass the increase along. “lowering the state sales tax to 4%”.—Lowering any tax is a good idea. “raising the gas tax .15 and diesel .25″ Why more for diesel ? Those who use diesel fuel are trying to make a living and the taxes and cost of diesel are already too high. Diesel should cost less than gas as it is lower down the distelates.(not as much refinement needed, therefore less cost to mfg.)”Raising sin taxes”, Who cares ? “by replacing the 5% corp. tax with .08% gross sales receipt tax.”— again any time you lower taxes it is a good thing. “Funding schools by removing property taxes” Here the fair tax could be used. “Dividing the state into 23 school dists.” I could go 46, one for each county, but there are certain circumstances where they need further looking. “funded only by the state casino gambling and ed lottery”. Real sin taxes. So there we have it. Erwin’s BS debunked. Nikki might not be the best governor in the country but compared to her “competition” in SC she is by far the best we have.
Small businesses are ripping off their employees. If they drop the healthcare plans and 401k matching, they can afford higher wages and fair corporate tax, and fuel.
Eliminating the personal income tax is a Republican idea. Raising the minimum wage is a Dim idea. Tax credits to offset the wage increase is BS. can anyone say hermaphroditic ? A politician that couldn’t make it in either party. That’s really bad. All he is there for is to cut into Nikki’s stomping of Shitheen. Just another loser.
No personal income tax.
Okay, how do you plan to pay for that? I really, really don’t want to be Kansas on steroids, Ervin. I also don’t want to see a barely progressive tax replaced with a regressive one.
Increase minimum wage. Offset with small business tax credits.
Ehh, an interesting proposal, but I’d like to see more details. How high is the increase? How much will the credits cover? What replaces the lost revenue for the state?
Fix roads and bridges. Stand tall for the port.
Well, you certainly can’t screw that up any worse than the current governor.
All in all, a bit that worries me, but far better than Trikki Nikki.
Damn. it’s so subtle, yet effective. It LOOKS great, unlike Sheheens which looks like it was done in an introductory powerpoint class at the community center. If he were just running on a party ticket, Haley would be reeling.
