HOLLYWOOD ICON DEAD IN APPARENT SUICIDE

Robin Williams – one of the greatest comedic talents of all-time – was found dead in his California home on Monday, the victim of an apparent suicide.

He was 63 years old.

“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,” Williams’ wife, Susan Schneider, said in a statement. “I am utterly heartbroken.”

Williams body was found shortly after noon Monday. The suspected cause of death? “Suicide due to asphyxia,” although a full coroner’s investigation is pending.

Williams’ publicist told reporters the movie star had been dealing with “severe depression” in recent weeks.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Williams starred in dozens of films and television programs beginning in the late 1970s – rising to prominence as Mork, the goofy alien in the hit NBC sit-com Mork and Mindy .

Some of his notable movies included Good Morning Vietnam  (1987), Dead Poets Society  (1989), The Fisher King  (1991), Aladdin  (1992), Mrs. Doubtfire  (1993) and of course Good Will Hunting , the 1997 instant classic that earned him an Academy Award for best supporting actor.

Williams also led the Comic Relief effort on behalf of the homeless, and would frequently travel to entertain American servicemen and women.

“Robin Williams was one the sweetest, most generous, caring, philanthropic people of our generation,” one of his producers said.

We agree … he will be missed.

I’ve noted the ignorant, boorish and vindictive nature of the euwe max comments. It really would be a breath of fresh air if he stopped posting here. He’s tiresome and predictable.

He watched Mork and Mindy over and over, and in the end, it killed him. Had he called me I would have warned him.

There is little doubt that some hate will rear its ugly head on this board at some point (based upon Williams’ politics), but it would be nice to think that folks could skip all of that for just a few days. Real mental illness is a tough mistress and Williams was a troubled soul, as they say, as he discussed pretty openly for many years. RIP.

I have no idea what his politics were. I do know that he was one of the funniest and most talented entertainer’s that God has ever created.RIP Robin. You were all class.
Politics? You brought it up. I am ashamed and disgusted that Obama has time to make a statement on a celeberties death however has NO time to address the issue of our ex- Marine being held and tortured in a Mexico prison. This after the 100,000 signatures were obtained. How about the Christian minister being held in Iran with 2 small children?
Disgraceful.

I brought up the politics (in a general way) to keep the morons here, and there are a few of those around, from taking the opportunity of his death to dig into all of that. That’s all; a little self-enforced peer pressure for the FITS readership, not famous for our restraint.

He entertained us for 40 years. He was very funny, but his talents also had tremendous range. He played many very serious roles in movies in addition to the comedic roles.

It is difficult to imagine the thoughts he was dealing with that caused him to decide that the best course of action for him was to end it all.

RIP now, Mr. Williams.

So did he do it David Carradine style hanging in a closet wearing a fishnet body stocking?

I have little sympathy for people who commit suicide.

Smirks August 12, 2014 at 8:22 am

If you have no sympathy, then have some respect. Depression is an extremely serious condition that can be difficult to treat. You don’t know what Williams had to deal with, none of us do.

Who are you to lecture anyone on having ‘respect’.You appear to be a weak-minded individual (case in point when you threatened to boycott FITS and take others with you when Will called you a socialist)iand in need of mental health services.
Don’t be ashamed. This should be an eye opener for you (Williams). Let me know if we can help before….

When have you ever shown anyone any respect except when they are as stupid as you are, which is to say, Grand Tango.

“Oh whoa is me, I’m now a D-List celebrity. Once a big television and movie star, now a middle row slot on Hollywood Squares. The paparazzi now is down to one guy with an iPhone. Life just isn’t worth living.”

Cry me a river there Mork.

You should be ashamed of yourself.
Maybe by putting others down, it makes you feel less worthless.

Oh boo fucking hoo. I’ve had a friend and people I know commit suicide, and I have seen what they do to those people around them by this cowardly and selfish act. Call it what you will but it’s still a selfish, cowardly act. People everyday a lot less well off than him are fighting for the chance to live because of illness and disease, and these healthy people decide life’s not worth living. I decided their decision made it easier for me not to even bother going to their funeral, I went to work, business as usual. Like what I wrote isn’t true. He was found by a “personal assistant”… how pathetic is it when your life is so busy that you have to hire an errand boy for the little things. He was married and had a daughter, so he had people who could get him help if he wanted it. It wasn’t like he was stuck in a one room apartment in the middle of the projects all alone.

I remember “Awakenings”. The character he played had as serious a problem relating to people as his patients.

The funniest scenes on “Mork and Mindy” were when Jonathan Winters played his baby boy. He made many late night appearances with Winters also. Jonathan was Robin’s mentor and idol. Jonathan Winters died exactly 16 months ago. I believe they are together now. Where those two are together has to be heaven.

The Birdcage – with two monumental talents – Robin Williams and Nathan Lane – is one of the absolutely most hilarious movies I have ever seen. I’m sure I’ve watched it at least a half-dozen times and am still not tired of it – in fact I watched it again last night.

At first, to me, Mr. Williams was just another funny man, good, but one of many. What sold me on his true talent was the movie “What Dreams May Come”. Ironically it also dealt with suicide. Its a bit of an odd movie but I liked it and it made me think, a lot. I will miss his talent.
