HOW FAST IS YOUR WEB?
Virginia has the fastest internet speeds in America … while Alaska has the slowest (ruh-roh, Sarah Palin news site).
In Old Dominion, the web moves at a speed of 13.7 mbps … just ahead of Delaware’s 13.1 mbps. Meanwhile Alaska’s 7 mbps is the nation’s slowest internet connection – just ahead of Arkansas, Kentucky and Montana, each of which clocked in at 7.3 mbps.
The good news? Forty-eight of 50 states showed faster speeds this year, according to Massachusetts-based Akamai’s latest “State of the Internet” report.
The national average is 10.5 mbps – which ranks the United States just ahead of Canada for the fastest internet speeds in the Western Hemisphere. However our country’s web moves more than twice as slow as South Korea – where users enjoy a blazing fast 23.6 mbps rate.
Sheesh … no wonder that Gangnam Style video got so many hits.
In the wake of the report, Broadview Networks has put together a useful color-coded map showing the internet speeds of each state. States shaded dark green have the fastest connections, while states shaded red have the slowest.
Take a look …

Virginia has the highest network speeds…makes viewing porn on their gubamint laptops faster.
If they slowed it down maybe there wouldn’t be so many missing e-mails.
It also makes it easier to run them backwards – for some guys their favorite part is when the hooker gives the money BACK to the guy…..
They have the best net we can pay for.
I remember after Hurricane Hugo in September of 1989 some Bellsouth employees fist pounding some desks over the stupidity of not putting fiber all the way to the “house” on all new “re-freshment” taps and new permits. You talking about some mad engineers..
!!!
They knew then their goose was cooked..!!
I guess Bellsouth, being an independent company can do as they wish , but it would make sense to run fiber on everything new or repair. The days of the twisted pair should be long gone. Like last century.
Dallas
33.71 Mbps Down,
5.81 Mbps Up.

Now running right at 30 down, which will go to 60 in 4-6 weeks with fibre 100% – will be adding another pc back on with a router so that will decrease somewhat. I need this to keep up with YOU, Max…..
keep up with YOU

I’m an internet *god*… you’d have to cheat to keep up with me.
How many Pentium chips does it take to change a light bulb? Exactly 1.99438274289 –but 2 is close enough.

Bill Gates visited a prostitute. She charged him the basic rate, plus $ 99.95 for the upgrade, manual and customer support.
You get the speed you pay for. Right now I am squatting on the Wi-fi from a neighboring cottage on the coast at 4Mbps. I connected at a motel on the way at 8Mbps. At home I get about 16Mbps.
Although I did not download the report linked, I suspect that the speed figures for the various states reflects what the locals can afford as much as the capability of the infrastructure. As such, the speed numbers mean little. Virginia is highest because of all the well-paid government workers around DC paying for good connections.
Unfortunately, I am at the mercy of the Hillbilly Mob called Comporium. When I was with TW in NC, I never had problems and always had the fastest speeds of anyone I compared to on Cnet as far as locals.
Out here in the country using my Verizon Android phone as a hotspot on 4G getting 23Mbps down 2.17Mbps up.
