I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand ISIS could be a threat on the other hand Iran is a threat. I wonder if we wouldn’t be better just letting ISIS fill the power vacuum rather pushing them out and letting Iran get a foothold in Iraq and Syria. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?

Welcome back, again. I experienced a problem for a week where my comment would show as posted — and then vanish! A few of them then reappeared several days later. At first I thought I was being “moderated” but then, again..?
Same thing here. After going deep in my Disqus profile I found all the comments marked as spam. I gave up and created a new profile, same thing happened. I finally created a new email address and used it to register. That seemed to fix the problem.
I fixed my problems by always … always… always.. did I say always? clicking on the little red circle… not just the notification balloon… and keeping it up to date – grayed out.
I always do that because I’m OCD about notification icons, My email is inbox, social media accounts, work email, etc. all have to be inbox zero or I flip the fuck out.

Heard a very interesting discussion on this situation this morning. ISIS is a threat to everybody!
The questions though is ISIS more or less of a threat than Iran. In the long run Iran is a greater threat and if ISIS really believes they are the new caliphate they are going to have to fight Iran at some point which will leave both of them weakened. As long as they make no direct threat to US interests let them conduct their affairs as they see fit. If they become a threat to Israel or other US interests wipe them off the map.
From what I heard, ISIS is even more of a threat than Al Qaeda ever was, especially since it has more of an organized military operation, and if it gains traction and followers, it could definitely be a threat to us and other countries. They were even too extreme for Al Qaeda and were kicked out. It has about 10,000 men and “has all the trappings of a state, with courts, schools and services.” Sounds very organized and scary.

I like an idea I heard on TV. The prime job of the USA in this should be encouraging an Arab League version of NATO to get up and running.
We have trained the air forces of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia and it’s time they showed their stuff against a bunch of Sunni extremists that everybody hates.
Then, let them negotiate the redrawing of the map of Iraq along ethnic lines, which seems to be the only way to solve those problems.

As deplorable as it might be, what is going on in Iraq is not a case of terrorism aimed at the US. It’s religious warfare between Muslim sects. ISIS is Sunni and the Iraqi government is Shia. They have been at each other’s throats for centuries…long before the British created Iraq, Iran, Syria, etc. Look at Ireland. The Brits divided the island and the Catholics and Protestants fought forever. The current situation is another example of what can happen when governments cross politics with religion. Unless, we are willing to redraw country borders in the Middle East to accommodate religious and ethnic groups, the US should not get involved. I do not believe there is any other political or diplomatic solution here… and military force will only help in the short run.
At the very least (and probably no more) we should support our allies the Kurds and not backstab them as one of the Bushes did the Marsh Arabs.
The Kurds… Middle Eastern Mafia.. they have no qualms at all selling rockets to Iranians, or buying them from Iranians, and selling to Turks, or Syrians.
