FORMER LAWMAKER SLAPPED WITH FOURTEEN FEDERAL CHARGES
Former S.C. Rep. Thad Viers was indicted on fourteen federal charges in relation to his business dealings with a shady paving contractor, The (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) Sun News is reporting.
Viers – who was running for the U.S. Congress when a harassment charge forced him to abandon his campaign – has been accused of helping the contractor hide more than $500,000 worth of assets from an insurance company looking to collect on a $6 million debt.
The project was related to Interstate 95 – the South Carolina portion of which has fallen into disrepair in recent years. The alleged fraud was committed in 2011, when Viers was still a member of the S.C. House.
Viers is facing charges of money laundering, making false statements to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and engaging in monetary transactions involving money from criminal endeavors.
If convicted, he could face nearly 150 years in jail.
Viers was a leading Republican candidate for South Carolina’s seventh U.S. congressional district seat before his troubles with barbecue heiress Candace Bessinger became public knowledge. In fact he received the endorsement of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.
He dropped out of the race, though, and resigned his House seat prior to being indicted on charges related to his toxic relationship – later pleading guilty and serving sixty days in jail.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer prick uh guy.
TBG, continuing with Petey Pablo references, guesses this particular Grand Jury wasn’t “scared of a big dick.”
Also, a pic of the BBQ heiress’s big ol store bought titties would help balance out the motel pic of your new contributor.
One wonders how/why that photo was taken/chosen for her introduction.
She explained it in a post, but she can have Fits change it for her by providing another one. I suggest a photo of her playing sand volleyball.
Right on. Feds are the adults in the room.
Awesome. He’s going to miss those fake tits when he’s in Butner or Edgefield FCI.
More like Estill.
“He’s going to miss those fake tits”
Something tells me he’s gonna get more than his fair share of fake tits while in the pokey, they’ll just have some frank and beans to go along with them.
what a great Republican
As long as you SC Democrats have the most corrupt chief justice since Reconstruction, Jean Hoefer Toal, don’t throw stones at the Repubs. And she has Bill Nettles protecting her. Really.
So long as the Republicans claim the moral high ground in each election they need to ensure their house is clean. But then I guess Republicans claim many things while the truth turns out to be quite different.
Is it just me or does Viers bare a striking resemblance to Flounder in “Animal House”?
“Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.”
Sounds like a classy guy. Wonder if he’ll make his one phone call to a certain girl with fake boobies.
Or as you used to describe him back in the good old days when you used to show tits on this blog, “a baby holding an apple”.
Can we here more about his big apple head dick?
The sentencing guidelines and the Federal Government are absolutely insane.
Ever notice how with guys like Viers (and Ravenel) it’s never their fault or responsibility- there’s always some mythical boogeyman or conspiracy afoot. Poor Thad got arrested during his Congressional campaign because he was a threat to the machine? Abject silliness. He got arrested because he went full-on redneck pussy crazy and broke the law (several times). Now another (much seedier) set of allegations pops up; it’s starting to look like a pattern of some sort is developing. Get a mirror.
Exactly. But you left out Lee “it was everybody’s fault that my business failed” Bright
I own that SOB. Everytime we meet he fails to look me in the eye.
makes me think of this scene –

The moment may have have looked something like that!
FITS is using David Wren material from TSN? Has Wren payed his part of the $600,000 he owes former state legislator and current lobbyist Mark Kelley for defaming Kelley?
You keep forgetting that the case is being appealed, and will likely be appealed all the way to the US Supreme Court, if need be. Why is that simple fact so difficult for you to comprehend, numbnuts?
Good to see you crawl out of the sewer and comment.
So what the case is being appealed? Anybody can appeal anything.
Appealed to SCOTUS? LMAO! Wren appears to be a talented reporter. Hope he learned his lesson about defamation. He is young and can overcome this mistake.
Wren and The Sun News are hardly cowering in fear. And McClatchy stands behind them 100%. It is an important case. If the verdict is not overturned it will become case law and have a chilling effect on investigative reporters all over the USA. Of course, given your posts and the pols you defend, I think you’d like that.
One thing to say an individual is a liar or a horrible person. It is another to accuse even a public figure with crimes and felonious activity.
Given your track record of posting falsehoods and bizzare allegations of criminal activity by those you disagree with in MB/Harry County (ZERO which have proven to be true) I can understand why case law which holds those that defame good people accountable bothers you.
In my opinion you and TSN deserve each other.
Wren never accused Kelley of wrongdoing. In fact he stated in several different ways that the lobbyist had done nothing wrong. It was a witness called by Kelley’s attorney, namely Ms. Hazelwood of the state ethics commission, who stated that Kelley had broken the law in another way. If a writer can be shut down for simply stating who was sitting at a table with two people, when an envelope full of questionable checks changed hands between two of them — while going out of his way to state that the third person DID NOT break the law — then it goes well beyond mere “chilling effect.” It is the death of investigative journalism.
What’s that got to do with the indictment of Viers?
What has Sandi Morals bullshit ever got to do with ANYTHING?

TELL IT!!!
This is a very good letter, and it hits all the main points – but I have just one small quibble:
The writer left out Coastal Uncorked, another way that the ad tax has enriched the power elite of Myrtle Beach that back Tom Rice, on the pretense of boosting tourism.
Overall, though, these are the questions that Andre Bauer and the other candidates not in the pockets of the MB Mafia should have been asking all along. I don’t really fault Andre so much for that, though. Perhaps some of his local supporters are not quite fully over the Stockholm Syndrome that has gripped them for lo these many years while those scoundrels and thieves held them and their businesses hostage, killed off other businesses with the help of local government in their extreme crony capitalist way, and took total control of commerce in MB and much of the Grand Strand.
The mainstream media should have been asking them as well, but of course we know that some of them, locally, are in the MB Mafia’s pocket as well, owing to their involvement on the Board level with the MBACC.
I hope this gets sent out far and wide via social media today. I’ll do my part, for sure.
Thank you Nolan, and thank you Paul for providing such a platform for free expression of the REAL
issues in this area.
TOM RICE MUST BE STOPPED! VOTE FOR ANDRE BAUER TODAY!!!

You are a lying psycho!!!! No “bullshit”. :-)
Is that you, Wrenzie? Ha!
For the record, I’ve made my peace with Mayor John Roads and have had some cordial conversations with him. As for Bauer, he’s not the worst pol around, but his operatives are scum, so I cut him and them loose.
Getting back to the subject of Will’s original post, I hate to see Thad in this much trouble. He has a good side many don’t see, and had great potential in public service. While I do not believe he will spend the rest of his life behind bars, by any means, I’m afraid this will finish him off politically. I’m sad about this turn of events.
No. It must be Cahaly.
Whoever you are, fool, here’s reality: Everything about Davis’ arrest, not to mention all his past arrests, was and is a matter of public record with the counties of Horry and Georgetown, and with the State of South Carolina. I did not accuse Davis of murder. Luckily, he hit cars with no occupants, apparently. Hilton — yeah he HAS murdered, twice, not to mention maming a woman for life. And btw, FUCK HALEY!!!

lol YOU are the one that is obsessed with me.YOU are the one that replied too a comment of mine that had NOTHING too do with you. I never addressed you yet you call me a profane name?
I have never met you however I quickly learned what a despicable human being you were when you posted an apparent arrest/booking picture of a private citizen, Thomas G.Davis, on FITS. Only a worthless piece of shit would do that to another human being , in my opinion.
Tell ya what loser.I won’t reply to your insanity and you don’t reply to my factual comments.
Couple of other things. Don’t threaten me and careful with making false and foolish allegations of ‘drunkenness’ and ‘murder’ on ANY forum directed toward me. Public figure or not ,anonymous blogger or not, you just find yourself in the same position as TSN and Wren did.
Have a great life and vote Haley! :-)
I think they both have a great future on Southern Charm
Pre
Chances are many more in the Legislature should be with him. But with the way this White House destroys evidence I would not convict Viers of crap. This nation is as crooked as any.
Some speculation. makes sense. why did Nettles not have a news conference to announce this when he has them on indictments for much lesser offenses? Why absolutely throw the book at the guy when he just did what other politicians in Sourth Carolina do every day?
Thad Viers and Coastal Kickback: What If…
http://grandstranddaily.com/thad-viers-coastal-kickback/
I hope he is convicted and loses his right to own a firearm. While he likes to boast that he owns quite a few firearms and is “pro-gun”, his actions indicate something quite the opposite. He introduced the infamous “Viers Amendment” to a piece of pro-gun legislation a few years ago, effectively killing that bill. Thad’s amendment, would have removed the current ability of any citizen who can legally possess a firearm to carry it in their glove box and relegated it to only those with a CWP from a state that is reciprocal with SC.
This is similar (maybe even connected?) with behavior of SC House Representative Mikey Pitts (R-Greenwood and Laurens), who will introduce or otherwise “support” a piece of pro-gun legislation and then sabotage it with amendments designed to make it more harmful than good to gun owners if it is passed.
Mikey’s most recent examples of this behavior were when the SC Restaurant Carry bill was in play. Mikey Pitts introduced measures to increase penalties for CWP holders who inadvertently carried into restricted zones. His secretary had the gall to tell me he was trying to make the penalties civil in nature, rather than criminal. Sorry Mikey, I am not that stupid. Increasing fines from in the hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars and jail time from days or months to years in length is not making anything better for us. Don’t piss down my back and try to tell me it is raining.
Time wounds all heels.
