BANK SHUTS DOWN ACCOUNTS BECAUSE STORE OWNER SELLS GUNS

The owner of a South Carolina pawn shop was forced to close his accounts with the increasingly liberal SunTrust Bank – possible evidence of the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ)’s ongoing assault on the Second Amendment.

Morris Williams – owner of the Inman Gun and Pawn shop – was forced to close his accounts with the bank because he was labeled a “prohibited business type.”

“Under the Rules and Regulations for Deposit Accounts, and as a result of our recent decision, we must ask you to close the below listed SunTrust accounts,” a letter from the bank informed him.

According to Williams, he was targeted because his business sells firearms – and has the word “gun” in its name.

SunTrust’s decision may be part of “Operation Choke Point,” an insidious effort by the federal government to deny certain law-abiding companies access to banking services.

Or it may be the result of the bank kowtowing to liberals – as it did when it shut down the accounts of David and Jason Benham, two socially conservative brothers who were going to star in a reality TV program about flipping houses.

Clearly SunTrust – which taxpayers bailed out several years ago to the tune of $3.5 million – is a financial institution supporters of the First and Second Amendments should avoid.  More to the point, when is a court going to stand up against the flagrant violation of due process associated with the government denying banking services to private businesses that are not suspected of breaking any laws?

Where is an “activist judge” who is willing to stand up against such tyranny?

I usually go with small FDIC banks/credit unions instead of the big boys.

Which is actually a better choice in a lot of ways! I’m still with Wells Fartgo for now. They still have a few perks which are advantageous to me. This however, is subject to change without notice.

“government denying banking services to private businesses that are not suspected of breaking any laws”

Even if they are “suspected” of breaking laws the government cannot penalize them. They have to prove/convict them of breaking laws before they can penalize them.

“Even if they are “suspected” of breaking laws the government cannot penalize them. ”

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Our gov’t is lawless for the most part.

This attitude is running downhill too, the police confiscate money from drivers without a hearing and know it costs too much to fight them to get your money back if they’ve taken less than $20K. Likewise, very few have the means to fight the Feds even when they are wrong/oppressive…including banks let alone small gun shops.

Oh, while their at it, how about running through Obama’s SSN? I can’t help but think all arrests and convictions are illegal as long as President Obama remains President with a forged BC and someone else’s SSN. Right?

SunTrust Screwed Themselve August 7, 2014 at 1:37 pm

Certainly a way to make attempt to control the sale of firearms. And it certainly appears that is the obvious crux here. The bank doesn’t agree with the business he is in, thus, no longer wants any association with him. If he was black … .. .? Nevertheless, he will have to take the time to open accounts elsewhere, sad to say.

I wonder if this is somehow connected to Bloomberg? I remember he has his boys from New York conduct a convert sting operation in South Carolina back around 2006. He was sued by South Carolina gun shop owners.

The problem is they’ve been branded…the shop might get an account for a week or two…but if he’s been flagged by the Feds they’ll just close the next account too. (usually the Feds flag gun shops selling stuff over the internet they don’t like, like AR16 receivers for example)

Where’s your celebration of free-market principles when the corporation is liberal? You know, kind of like when you got all excited about Chik-fil-A?

Reply
Smirks August 7, 2014 at 5:08 pm

Because when the corporation is promoting something not in line with the right wing, the wingnuts go apeshit over it. To keep in line with your Chick-Fil-A mention, Google “rainbow oreo” or “proud whopper reaction” and look at the rampant homophobic reactions.

But boycotting Chick-Fil-A is wrong because “muh religion” and “punishing them for muh First Amendment” and so on.

That’s a mighty fine strawman you’ve erected there Smirks. Be ashamed if something happened to it.

No one cares if you boycott CFA. Be shorter lines for tasty chicken sammiches and sweet tea.

*Sorry ’bout your little strawman, Chief.*

Did Chick-Fil-A refuse to serve chicken sammiches to the LBGT community?

There is absolutely no information, much less documented fact, about what happened here, other than from the pawn shop owner.
Was this just an exercise to see how dumb some FITS readers are? How easy they are to whip into a frenzy when you say “GUN!”?

True dat. ChokePoint is also shutting down accounts of pawnshops that do not sell GUNZ. It’s about pawnshops not about GUNZ. But to the gun nuts, everything is about GUNZ.

Let’s see – we need the government to make banks lend money to gun sellers, but not to enforce gun control legislation, or make catholic hospitals provide birth control pills.

Yeah , and Sasquatch may be one of the shape-shifts of the greys… beaming suggestive rays to keep weak humans from embracing guns.

You’re going to show me a grainy, blurred photo of a bear in the woods behind some bushes, and claim it’s an invasion of Sasauatch from outer space to force banks to stop funding the manufacture and sales of firearms?

You’re off the deep end, man.

Re-cap August 8, 2014 at 8:48 pm

Well, I am off the deep end. That not withstanding, you should really reconsider.

euwe max August 8, 2014 at 9:10 pm

Reconsider what? That Operation Choke point is trying to decrease the number of guns being sold in the US?

Or that Sasquatch is real?

There are very few facts here. How do you know the issue was guns? Illegal money laundering is a common problem with pawn shops. Cops know this.

The prohibited business type is probably Pawn Shop that deals in stolen goods. Not uncommon. I think this article is BS and based on nothing. The people who believe this garbage are DAS. Dumb as Shit.

Wait until they come for you and your stuff. Then it will be oppression. Now since it it someone else it is BS. Just wait sheep-boy; just because you surrender to them does not mean the will be merciful to you.

If was was because of fencing stolen goods there would have been maw enforcement action instead of the bank saying, “We don’t want you.”

It’s a straight-up business that’s been around for at least 20 years, probably more. Morris is the 2nd owner and is a stand-up guy. I don’t know details about this case but I’ve done business there, with Morris and the original founder of the shop, and they’re both very decent gentlemen.

Not Sun Trusts’ fault. This is an Obama game plan to stop the sale of guns in America. It’s clearly unconstitutional and strikes at the very heart of America’s free enterprise systems. It won’t stand up in court, and the owner should just sue.

My credit card from South Carolina state credit union was blocked because of fraudulent charges. When I call them they read to me 5 articles I bought from legal good standing stores . All of the articles were guns or gun accessories bought in stores or internet. I seems they have them flagged….Obama laws….I don’t know but it seems fishy. They unblocked the CC after I advised I did indeed buy the item’s.
