“thestate”newspaper stands behind the article stating Tom Ervin’s wife , attorney Kathryn Williams , gave Sheheen $4500 and the SC Democrat Party $50,000 in 2010.
In my opinion they are a “team”, kinda like Bill and Hillary. Apparently she is using Tom to try and elect democrat Sheheen as governor to help Obama , Pelosi and Reid.
Follow the money gang. 2% Tommy may just elect Sheheen.

That’s worked out real well, hasn’t it?
When Brad Warthen, Cindi Scoppe and the editorial board of The State admit they made as gigantic mistake pushing the cabinet as Scoope this made this week by admitting the ‘judgment’ mistake she/they made endorsing Zais, I will have some hope.
But, since they haven’t admitted the mistake they made on Steve Benjamin, I won’t hold my breath.
Plus, Warthen will NEVER admit to making a mistake on anything.

Let’s just issue every prisoner in the whole dorm a baseball bat with a couple of nails driven through it and let them go at it – the winners get to live, until the next time. You could film it for Pay Per View and repave every road in the state with the proceeds.
If you are someone who has a relative in prison or are a prisoner’s rights activist, I am doing what is known as being sarcastic – I don’t really think we should give prisoners baseball bats with nails driven through them (the baseball bat will probably be enough…)

Georgia and South Carolina should build a joint facility on St. Catherines Island island off the Georgia Coast. It’s 10 miles long and about 3 miles wide. Currently it’s uninhabited and part of the Golden Isles of Georgia. It’s isolated and swampy.

“The island is involved with the conservation of the ring-tailed lemur. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1969”
Found it on Wiki — it seems too important to be designated a prison facility. Although the reference to the ring-tailed lemurs, who are infamous for throwing their own shit at folks, is appropriate for the politicians.

The ring tailed lemur being a primate, perhaps it suggests a solution to the riot problems on the island..we simply throw bananas in the prison to quell the population.

The bananas should not be too green, or they could be used as sexual devices. Perhaps if the peels were removed, or maybe just give them banana pudding.

Believe it or not but back during my last rote to the “Big Sandy” in 2005 I took my personal DVD of “Cool Hand Luke” with me.

Hardly any of the airmen had seen it and even less knew knew about it but it became the most watched DVD in the common area of our tent (we had a ratty piece-of-shit couch and some fold-up chairs and God only knows where the TV and DVD player came from – we had to used “canned air” to blow out the optics of the DVD player almost daily).

I’ll never forget some females stopping by and remarking: “That is the only time I’ve seen you SOB’s keep your mouth shut for the entire flick”

“Mission complete”

A very respected Captain in the Foreign Legion was transferred to a remote desert outpost. On his orientation tour he noticed a very old seedy looking camel tied out behind the enlisted men’s barracks. He asked the Sergeant leading the tour, “Why is a camel tied to the barracks?” The Sergeant replied, “Well sir, it’s a long way from anywhere, and the men have natural sexual urges, so when they do … uh … we have the camel ready for them.”

On his orientation tour he noticed a very old, seedy looking camel tied out back of the enlisted men’s barracks. He asked the Sergeant leading the tour, “What’s the camel for?”
The Sergeant replied, “Well sir it’s a long way from anywhere, and the men have natural sexual urges, so when they do, uh, we have the camel.”

The captain said, “Well if it’s good for morale, then I guess it’s all right with me.”

After he had been at the fort for about 6 months the captain could not stand it any more so he told his Sergeant, “BRING IN THE CAMEL!!!”

The sarge shrugged his shoulders and led the camel into the captain’s quarters. The captain got a footstool and proceeded to have vigorous sex with the camel. As he stepped, satisfied, down from the stool, and was buttoning his pants he asked the Sergeant, “Is that how the enlisted men do it?”

The Sergeant replied, “Well sir, they usually just use it to ride to town and pick up women…” s all right with me”. After he had been stationed at the fort for six long, lonely months, the Captain simply couldn’t control his sexual angst any longer. He barked to his Sergeant: “BRING THE CAMEL INTO MY TENT!”

The Sergeant shrugged his shoulders, looked at the other men, and lead the camel into the Captain’s quarters. Within a few minutes, the Captain emerged from his tent, fastening his trousers, almost beaming with pride.

“So, Sergeant, is that how the enlisted men do it?” he asked.
The Sergeant replied, “Well, sir, usually they just use it to ride into town.”

(2) — A felon was convicted and sent away to the state penitentiary. His wife came to see him. As they talked, she remembered something and said, “Oh, honey, I just had to tell you — I’m not frigid anymore.

(3) — A lovely girl is filing a complaint against
her boyfriend. “He made violent love to me after he won my heart completely,” she tells the police officer. “I thought at last I’d had found the one thing every woman dreams of. I gave
him my all. My life, my love, my money, my soul. He took everything. And then drove off, leaving me alone with bitter memories.”

“The cad!” exclaims the officer.

“No, he took the Chevy.”

Covering up and lying about incidents in SCDC is an old and “proud” tradition, there. When I was working at one notorious facility, which no longer exists, we had officers going each shift to guard an inmate at Baptist hospital who was dying with AIDS.

At the same time, the department’s paid liar (I forget his name) was on the news frequently telling the public that there were no diagnosed cases of HIV in SCDC, yet.

When the man died (in the days before HIPPA), someone at my facility dropped a dime to local news agencies, giving them the name and room number of the deceased inmate so the news agencies could check it out for themselves. Suddenly, the paid liar was having to respond to reports in the news of an inmate death due to AIDS.

I don’t know what period you are speaking of, but when I worked there in the late ’80’s and early ’90’s, there was no effort to ‘hid’ the fact that some inmates had HIV.

SCDC is not the place for an amateur. A significant riot or death could rightfully be blamed on the Governor making an inappropriate choice.

No argument on your last sentence and point, Vic! By the time you were there, the presence of HIV and AIDS in SCDC facilities was well-known, given a boost by the phone calls made the night that the first guy died.

This was mid-eighties that I am speaking of. The nursing staff in our Infirmary were wonderful on my shift. According to their orders, for whatever stupid reason, they were not supposed to divulge the names of the HIV inmates to the security employees. This was a huge officer safety issue in that we might on any given day be involved in a fight with someone who was HIV+ or be exposed to blood or body fluids of someone who was. The nurses stuck their necks out and shared this vital info with us. There was all the apprehension and uncertainty about this “new” disease and how contagious it might or might not be as there would be if we were dealing with Ebola here at home, now.

Methinks you are ignorant of how poorly prison guards are paid and where prisons are located. The guards may not be able to afford internet access and the closest library may be 20+ miles away.
It’s probably smarter to go to SCDEW – I liked it so much better when it was Job Service; why do these GOPer governors have to rename everything? – and access everything at once. Some companies list only with SCDEW because they want them to do the screening.

A writer from “Better Homes and Gardens” goes to a maximum security prison to interview Horace Schmeely, an inmate who is reported to be an amazing landscape gardener. As Horace shows the interviewer around the grounds, she is flabbergasted. Everything is immaculate. The flowers are beautiful, the grass is perfectly manicured, and the trees are expertly pruned. And his running commentary on each shrub and bush is equally impressive. She can’t believe it. Here’s this guy in a maximum security prison, and he’s probably the most talented gardener and landscape designer she’s ever me, with an inexhaustible knowledge of every aspect of gardening.

At the end of the tour, she says to Horace, “I am enormously impressed with your work. Not only am I going to write a feature article about you and your work, but I’m going to petition the Governor to have you released from here, so you can get a good job on the outside. Your considerable talents shouldn’t go to waste.”

She turns and walks away. When she gets about twenty feet away from him, a huge brick hits her between her shoulder blades and Horace yells, “You won’t forget about me, will you?”

A former inmate at one of the state’s largest prisons for 22 years told me that the warden typically obtained high-priced, top-quality steaks via the prison’s purchasing system wherein the supplier falsified invoices at his direction.

Deliveries to the prison were made on Fridays and the warden took the steaks home with him that day.

High-ranking prison officers reporting to the warden were also given steaks to shut them up.

Prisoners naturally got beans and franks.

The OIG should investigate this untold waste, fraud and abuse under the nose of our governor.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Officials are looking for a person they say
helped try to use a drone to sneak cellphones, marijuana and other
contraband into a maximum-security prison in South Carolina.

Corrections
Department spokeswoman Stephanie Givens said Wednesday that officials
found a crashed drone in bushes outside Lee Correctional Institution in
Bishopville. At the site, Givens says officers on April 21 also found
the cellphones, marijuana and tobacco products.

One man has been
arrested and charged with trying to give contraband materials to
inmates, and authorities are looking for a second suspect.

Givens says this is the first time officials know of a drone being used to smuggle banned items into a South Carolina prison.

There are tried and proven methods for operating a safe and secure prison. It doesn’t appear South Carolina is utilizing those practices. Insufficient staffing levels and inmate overcrowding never produce a positive outcome. Additional staff and higher pay to attract good candidates for employment and up-to-date security features don’t come cheap, but in the long wrong, the cost would be less than the costs for repairs after a major riot, not to mention the lawsuits from inmates and staff due to the state not providing a safe environment. South Carolina has two prison experts from another state living here, they should be hired as consultants to bring the state’s prison system into the 21st century. Of course, it’s easy to play fast and loose with the safety of staff and the general public from your desk in the Governor’s office.
