EXPECTATIONS HIGH FOR STEVE SPURRIER’S 2014 SQUAD …
South Carolina’s resurgent football program has recorded three straight 11-win seasons, three straight New Year’s Day bowl victories and three straight Top Ten finishes – including a school-record No. 4 national ranking to close out the 2013 campaign.
But the Gamecocks have failed to win an SEC East championship over that stretch – coming in second to Georgia (2011), Georgia and Florida (2012) and Missouri (2013).
Will that change in 2014? Yes … according to the media analysts who cover the powerful Southeastern Conference.
Head coach Steve Spurrier‘s Gamecocks received 1,895 points in a preseason media survey – placing them ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs (1,777), Florida Gators (1,362) and Missouri Tigers (1,263). In the SEC West, Alabama is the runaway favorite to win the division with 1,915 points – ahead of last year’s SEC champion Auburn (1,735) and LSU (1,453).
Alabama is projected to defeat South Carolina in the 2014 SEC championship game, although it’s worth noting the media has correctly picked the eventual conference champ just four times in the last 22 seasons – and only twice in the last eighteen years.
Despite being projected SEC East champs, the Gamecocks did not place a single player on the media’s first-team All-SEC squad. Junior running back Mike Davis and senior offensive linemen A.J. Cann and Corey Robinson were second-team selections, while senior safety Brison Williams was named to the All-SEC preseason third-team.
Alabama had nine first-team All-SEC selections …
Spurrier appears to be quite confident heading into the 2014 season despite losing No. 1 NFL draft pick Jadeveon Clowney on defense and Connor Shaw – the winningest quarterback in school history – on offense.

LMAO!!
Last year the SEC media picks were wrong. They did not pick Auburn & Mizzou to make it to the SEC Championship. Probably wrong again!
Why would they (or anyone) have picked either of those two last year? They won a combined 2 conference games the year before. Are you saying you had them? If not you obviously don’t know either so why bother commenting?
Because it shows no one really knows, including your smartass!
Why? is a Douche Bag! If he is so fuck in smart, tell us who is going to be in the championship game!
For starters before I challenge someone to prove how smart he or she might be, I would write it correctly. You wrote “If he is so fuck in smart” Really? “Fuck in smart?” How about this, you are FUCKING stupid!! You want an honest thought? Yes it will be USC vs. Bama with both teams having 1 conference loss going into that game. USC will beat both UGA and Florida, and finish ahead of Florida, who will finish 2nd (also with just one loss, but USC wins the East with the tie breaker). USC’s loss will come against Auburn. UGA will have at least 2 conference losses, both USC and Florida, and perhaps a 3rd but that I am not sure of. Either way It will be USC in the Championship game. If I am correct you can kiss my ass, and if I am wrong you can go fuck yourself. Happy Bulldog? You will finish 3rd, I hope you beat Clemson but either way you wont beat the Gamecocks. Now go fuck yourself idiot
I wish I could cram your wrong prediction down your big fucking mouth, you piece of shit!
Well don’t you think you are big shit? Just because you wear your big girl panties, doesn’t meant you are grown up. Truth sucks don’t it?
0-5
DaaaaDaDaaDaDaDa……DaDaDaDaaaDaaDaDaDaDaaaa. I’m no music major, but you might recognize the tune. Hint: Think a guy on a horse with a spear. BTW, 6-0 from the Cocks too, farmer boy.
Steve Spurrier is a Tremendous Example of a LEADER, defying the odds and his enemies with determination. I thank him for being a USC coach. He is a winner. All leaders, political too, can learn a lot from him…
Read this very accurate write up of him: http://scdigest.blogspot.com/
Shut the fuck up, nobody gives a shit what you think of him.
I didn’t read your article Emily, but does it talk about him being an arrogant and cocky bastard?
No Squishy, I charge your gods, the liberals, like MoRon, with that.
I’m Glad Spurrier-hate MoRon was Shut-Up by The State. They finally figured out Spurrier is much bigger than them: You’re punishing yourself by not reading:
Sure you don’t want to take a peek: http://scdigest.blogspot.com/
You should consider it also, commie.
Do you cup his balls too?
But you do agree w/ the assessment, right?
Pre-season national champs again, huh?
Well..as long as they keep beating Clemson, they’ll probably put a statue of Slurrier in front the chicken coop.
Hmmm. I don’t see anything in the article predicting national championships. The only thing I see is where media from all 14 SEC teams (13 of which are unbiased) picked USC to win the east.
The mere mention of USC and Spurrier seems to immediately wad the panties of most Clemson fans. And since they can’t beat Spurrier anymore, they now resort to middle-school insults like “Slurrier.” I think it’s funny just how much he’s under your skin.
Well..is he drunk…again?
Was he drunk … once?
or tired?
Talking about slurs.
You ever been tired enough that you can’t talk? Normally That only happens to people after they get drunk.
Why’s it so hard to agree that he was shit faced on TV? I mean USC must have thought something was wrong too, or they wouldn’t have pulled that episode of his show from eth web site the next day. Its not a crime I don’t think..just embarrassing.
Haters gonna hate!!!
Taters gonna pout…until they inevitably win again and oh my, the noise we’ll hear then!
Spurrier already has a statue in front of Gator Stadium. I heard they were finally getting around to painting Daboo’s name on a parking space.
Didn’t you realize what the Yanity firing means?
Dabo gets to decide who gets named parking spaces.
Will they make the truck radiator and transmission shop move first?
The Auburn game will turn out to be one of the biggest games in the program. We win it, we win the East. I do think that given the weakness of the East this year, we could possibly win with two conference losses, but I sure as hell would hate to lose to UGA again, run the table in the East and lose the conference on a tie to UGA like we did a couple of years ago.
Weakness of SEC- East this year. It has been weak for at least 4 or 5 years.
I think Dylan can stand in the pocket and zing it all over the field. Mike Davis can punch it through or tear ass down the sidelines. The defense is loaded with talent.
Now for analysis you will not find at SC Political Digest. LSU has a Heisman in Freshman running back Fournette. LSU has Florida, Texas AM, Auburn, and Kentucky this year. Folks, those are losses for all four. GA and Missouri are must wins. GA plays Clemson then an open date before us. GA will ready for us. Missouri plays four tune up games then us. Missouri will lay it all on the line for us then they have an open date before GA. Texas AM must win against us. A loss will put them out. They will be ready for us. The East Division will be decided on October 11. LSU opens with Wisconsin. If they beat Wisconsin big, LSU will run the table up to Auburn Oct 4 on Nov 8’s home game with Alabama. We could see LSU for the title thanks to their help. Fournette looks unstoppable.
Good analysis. You know your football.
UGA and Missouri are at home. UGA will be a battle, but I think we win due to home-field advantage. Missouri won’t be the same team they were in 2013. They lose quite a bit. We should handle them easily at home. Texas A&M may be “ready” for us, but hype usually only carries a team for at best a quarter. They are nine-point underdogs for a reason. We can’t take them lightly, but I like our chances for a 7+ point win in their first game of the post-Manziel era..
Auburn is our achilles heel. We’ve never beaten them in SEC play, and we have to play them on the road. I don’t like our chances there.
Injuries play a role, Fournette has to stay healthy.
