MORE UNNECESSARY GOVERNMENT …
South Carolina taxpayers are about to be on the hook for $50 million of a $75 million “Slave Museum” in downtown Charleston, S.C., according to the Associated Press.
For those of you educated in one of the Palmetto State’s government-run schools, that’s two-thirds of the total estimated cost of the facility.
The project – which is being pushed by longtime Charleston mayor Joe Riley – is banking on $25 million from state taxpayers and another $25 million from city taxpayers. Private gifts would fund the remainder of the cost.
Here’s the thing, though … Charleston, S.C. already has a government-funded “Slave Museum,” the Old Slave Mart Museum on Chalmers Street. According to the city’s website, the museum “recounts the story of Charleston’s role in this inter-state slave trade by focusing on the history of this particular building and site and the slave sales that occurred here.”
Sources tell FITS the facility operates on an annual budget of $200,000 – although it has recently undergone renovations.
Why does Charleston need two government-subsidized “Slave Museums?” Easy: It doesn’t … nor does the state need to subsidize Confederate crap, either.
Museums of any kind (funded by any government entity at any level) … are unnecessary expenditures of taxpayer funds. And every last one of them should be privatized. Immediately. That goes for Charleston’s duplicative slave museums as well as the planned Confederate shrine to the H.L. Hunley submarine – which has already sucked millions of dollars from South Carolina taxpayers.

The Slave Market should be reopened under private management. Will favors legalized prostitution. If a women should be able to legally sell her body, why not be able to sell yourself into slavery? Then the new slave could be resold as often as wanted. This is a simple Libertarian solution that even Ron Paul would endorse. It would save the taxpayers a bundle. All of capital lost from emancipation could restore wealth and the sales would add to our GDP.
That’s why a true libertarian society is incompatible with our modern understanding of human rights. In a libertarian society, you own yourself, so you should be able to sell yourself. After all, it’s your body and you should be able to do what you want with it.

A world wide curse. At the founding of this great nation slavery was a fact of life. Even blacks owned slaves. In Europe there were more white slaves than black slaves. Looking back at a period of time from a current perspective does no justice to us or them.
I think the County is tossing in $12 million too. Of course, the County Council said the County would go bankrupt if they had to pay back the Transportation Infrastructure Bank about that much the Bank was trying to extort for what had been spent on the 526 debacle. Funny how that works.

What about a museum dedicated to the new slaves, aka the taxpayers? Most of us on here work to keep our masters in Federal, state, county, and municipal, governments with plenty of money which they regularly squander for their own pleasure or for the financial benefit of relatives, friends, and other cronies. I wish they’d rebuild the slave workhouse by the old city jail. There gangs of slaves were punished by being forced to trudge along on a giant treadmill that turned a corn mill. I think white tourists should be told it would be fun to experience walking on the treadmill while chained at the wrist and ankle. Then the blacks from the housing project across the street and pull up a chair and have a laugh.
