ON “VEHICULAR HEAT STROKE” …
By Will Folks || I have four children under the age of ten years. And trust me … it is a royal pain in the ass taking all four of them inside a store for any duration of time – even when two parents are presiding over the chaos.
They are the definition of buck wild. Cracked out. Into everything. Oh … and LOUD.
Frankly, I don’t know how my wife manages to take them anywhere by herself. But she does … every day.
That’s why the rash of recent stories about kids dying because their parents left them in hot cars is so troubling.
Are people really that stupid? Or that lazy? Or both?
Yes, apparently …
At least fifteen children have died this year after being left in hot cars by their caretakers – and more than 600 have died due to “vehicular heat stroke” over the past fifteen years. And yes, there’s a disproportionately high number of those deaths occurring in South Carolina.
Why is this happening? Tiny bodies are more susceptible to extreme temperatures, overheating three to five times faster than adults. When the thermostat hits 107 degrees, their organs start shutting down.
My solution?
Forget putting these “parents” in prison … let them experience what “vehicular heat stroke” is all about for themselves.
Maybe that way people will remember not to leave their kids in hot cars … as if that’s something any human being should have to be reminded of in the first place.

That headline is incredibly distasteful, if not sickening. Not sure if it’s ignorance or callous insensitvity. But you might want to reconsider what you wrote.
Agreed. The “herd” you so callously say is being thinned is made up of children who did nothing more than be born. Blame the parents or whatever, but don’t act like they’re doing the world some favor by killing their own children.
I think Will is referring to his idea of baking the parents who do this, not to “thinning the herd” by killing their children.

it ain’t a great headline….
The headline is great “click-bait”, Just like T-Rav stories, internet gold.
Yeah from that perspective it probably is a good headline…
Will has to eat and pay bandwidth, hosting and other bills; otherwise we can’t come here an grouse.
Really? People are dying to know what’s happening with T-Rav? Why is that interesting? He’s on a boat. He’s holding his baby. He’s on a reality show. He’s running for something. Oh, yeah, he’s a convicted felon who served very little time for something that millions of other people would still be in jail for. Um. I GUESS that makes the stories interesting. Me? I could barely stay awake to finish typing that.
LOL! I don’t understand it, but apparently the hit counter goes crazy on T-Rav stories, along the comments section. My guess is T-Rav is a always a scandal of some sort. The Southern Charm thing probably brings in the hits from out of state because while not the most successful show in history it is seems to have a dedicated fan base. Personally I find T-Rav about as interesting as watching paint dry, but I have a low tolerance for celebrity based tripe anyway.
I love T-Rav stories, mostly because I love reminding people that he’s a convicted drug dealer, baby daddy, drunk driver, FEC regulation violator, any chance I get. ;^}
Yeah, if he didn’t have an ass-load of money and the good name of his family that he has drug though shit who would pay any attention to him, his show or his run for the Senate?
To me, whether he calls himself a libertarian or not now, he personifies Republican hypocrisy. When I sold timeshare there were company honchos (all Repubs) who used to party at his place before the bust. They said Limbaugh was there for one soiree, lots of other party big-shots. Motherfuckers. Coke is one of the reasons so many politicians stay so greedy and so crazy. Dumb-fuck T-Rav got caught, that’s all. He does not deserve a do-over.
So Cocaine and Rush’s special pills were available, Republican heaven, fucking morons will throw a person in jail for weed and make us pay for it !
Was it really such a good name? His old man is a nasty piece of work.
I’m with you! That’s the funniest part of the whole Ravenel debacle- the more exposure he gets the better is for Graham. Are the stories also click-baiting? Of course they are, but as Doc Holliday / Val Kilmer said so eloquently in Tombstone, “I’m your huckleberry; that’s just my game.”
Bring it on!
Really? People are dying to know what’s happening with T-Rav?
There’s a whole flock of people out there that have to have something to do inbetween episodes of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, I suppose.
Of course, covering shit that doesn’t matter is exactly what sent CNN down the drain, but oh well.
speaking of, how’s that petition thingy going for pink and white boy?
Everybody knows what Will meant, you just have to be smarter than a runny dog turd to interpret it and not pull the equivalent of a race card.
Funny how liberals, who will unmercifully crucify those you hate, over a misunderstanding that originates w/ your own ignorance…But you’ll bend over backward to perform a service of pleasure on one of your gods.
Uh oh, looks like Emily’s getting emotional, did Aunt Flo come to visit?
Jackie is exactly right.
Set the Machine Guns at the border eh Tango ?
It’s called click-bait GT, and it’s internet gold.
Now I understand you, you didn’t die though.
you care ? Say it ain’t so, hell thousands of Military personnel died for nothing, moron !!
So now Emily has determined that her blog is a failure, so her solution is to tell a successful blog owner how to run his site. Brilliant!!!
Perhaps it has something to do with the truth, genetics, and the reason those Darwin Awards are named after Mr Darwin. Yeah, the idea of an innocent child (or even a dog or other animal, for that manner) dying such a grisly death is not pleasant. That said, perhaps it is natures way of keeping the stupidity gene of the parents in some of these cases from being passed on. Don’t like it, then take it up with God, Mother Nature, etc.
I believe Stupidity has flourished due to well meaning efforts to soften the blows that Stupidity earns you. Whatever happened to the saying “You gotta be tough if you want to be dumb”? Instead of the ditch digger job your folks always said you will have from bad report cards, the Government shields you from your consequences, thus creating anti-Darwinian freaks of nature, like a super locust or something.
Taz, I believe you hit the nail squarely on the head!
All the US military deaths, and you complain about children. And even want to complain about Hispanic children coming to the US. Distasteful ? You are a ” Great Republican ” . I can’t wait until your breed is toast !!!
Read in the paper a woman was cited for cruelty to children for leaving her kids in her locked, air-conditioned, running automobile no doubt watching Disney movies on the entertainment system while she ran in to buy something from a store the kids had no interest in entering. Seems a “good Samaritan” noted this dangerous situation and alerted the authorities.
This is something I have done for twenty years, though I doubt someone will call the cops because my sixteen year old daughter chose to remain in the car instagramming on her iPhone instead of wandering through Lowes.
North Carolina actually has a law prohibiting any child under the age of nine from being left in a car unless watched by someone older than 14.
I’m guessing that tapping on the window and asking the kids if they were doing OK was too difficult?
Pics of the daughter?
Guess we need to start talking about sensible automobile control legislation.
Too bad we can’t legislate against stupidity but if we could we would have to start with legislators.
Maybe having children should require a license. Hell, I have to have one of them to go fishing.
Darwin awards, anyone?
I’ll be the first to admit that I was so caught up in the huge list of errands that had to do one day off way back when I was a young father that I ALMOST drove off with my daughter in her car seat on the trunk. So I understand how it might happen. That being said, the majority of these cases have proven to be murder. A few years back I remember a case in the Southwest where a distraught Father shot himself after finding
his daughter dead in the car. That was all to real of a case of forgetfulness.
My father gave me a piece of advice that I will never forget. He said son don’t ever place anything on the trunk or roof of your car for just a second that you don’t mind losing. I’ve added the bumper of my Suburban to the list now.
Once I faltered and while in a rush I laid a pair of sunglasses on the roof and it served as a good reminder of what the old man had said.
Surprising that there are any babies in Arizona, Mexico, etc. 107?
Mommy used to leave me in hot cars all the time as a kid, and I turned out OK. I’m the weather guy at a popular station and a potted plant.
“I’m Brick Tamland. People seem to like me because I am polite and I
am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair
of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48
and am what some people call mentally retarded.”
Our cars tell us when we leave the lights on, maybe they should design a warning for weight on the backseat or that the kids are in the car. Since the carseats buckle into the seatbelt system a signal they could sound that the belts are latched when the ignition is turned off.
“That’s why the rash of recent stories about kids dying because their parents left them in hot cars is so troubling.”
But not so troubling you can resist calling it herd thinning.
I know people who work at Allied Barton and they say what this guard did flies in the face of AB policy. They are not supposed to use any physical force unless there is no other way of handling a situation. They are supposed to call local LE and let them handle situations. You really need to dig further into this. File a complaint with Allied Barton’s office in Columbia on Stoneridge Drive. You can file a complaint with SLED too. What he did was over the top and probably highly unlawful.
Any man leaves his kid in a hot car spends a night in the box!
Don’t forget about the pets. Dogs are often left in hot cars “with the windows cracked”.
This is a huge problem that is getting a lot of media attention every time it happens. Cracked windows are increasing becoming broken windows as social awareness increases.
