STANDARDS OF LIVING ON THE DECLINE IN PALMETTO STATE
A few years ago this website published a story entitled “South Carolina’s Lost Decade” in which we examined how the reckless expansion of government – all under “Republican” rule – had failed to move the Palmetto State forward.
Missed that post? CLICK HERE to read it.
“South Carolina has a choice … it can either continue down its current path or summon the courage to try something different,” we wrote at the time. “And while our state’s motto is ‘While I breathe, I hope,’ we’ve been around this block enough times to know better than to hold our breath. Also, when the only options at the ballot box are big spending Republicans versus big spending Democrats, it’s hard to see things changing anytime soon.”
And despite many promises to the contrary, nothing has changed …
Anyway, there’s a new report out this week highlighting the extent to which we were correct in sizing up the state’s “Lost Decade.” According to U.S. Census info released last month, 35.2 percent of South Carolinians (a little more than 1.5 million people) lived in poverty-stricken areas in 2010 – up from 20.8 percent a decade earlier. That ranks the Palmetto State seventh nationally … or near the top of yet another list you don’t want to lead.
So much for “moving on up,” right?
Why does this matter?
“Researchers have found that living in poor neighborhoods adds burdens to low-income families, such as poor housing conditions and fewer job opportunities,” the Census researchers noted.
In other words these areas have a tendency to swallow people up …
The Census report actually incorporated information from 2008-12 in its latest calculations, but listed 2010 as the year of record for the data.
What do we think of these results? Sad – but not surprising given the state’s ongoing economic lethargy.
Sadder still? South Carolina’s leaders – including “reformer” Nikki Haley – continue to piss away money on the same corrupt, duplicative, dysfunctional government.

Nothing will change unless we rid ourselves of them. And many certainly have crossed over into the dark side of corruption and committing felonies. The self policing political system in SC must be cleaned out. Bobby Harrell’s fall will see many of them going down with him. But until some thing like that happens, its just the same old same old fucked up shit with these people. Yeah … our state motto should be, “lying faces and beautiful places”
This is FITS at the Most Ignorant. I hope you have sold this website, and you’re not THIS stupid. Either way: I’m not sure how much longer you’ll be in business. MSNBC, CNN and other leftwing media liars, are bleeding red ink. I doubt such a shoestring operation as FITS can stay in business on leftwing mythology, in a Conservative state.
That report is from Obama’s Census Dept. The same administration that operates the IRS, the VA and is attempting (and failing) to administer Obamacare.
At any rate: South Carolina had a $1 Billion budget surplus in 2006. We’re on life support in 2014. And it’s ALL thanks to Barack Hussein Obama.
Some of the Largest increases in wealth EVER in South Carolina, came after the State ridded itself of democrat iron rule. We actually came into the modern age under Republicans.
While the armpits of the state still wallow in squalor with the election of democrat after democrat…
This is Dumb-@$$#ry at its best. Ignorance will lead to failure. How much more can FITS endure before he crumbles?
Why would we go over that ghost town of a blog that you, Emily, own? I find it humorous that you, Emily, consider the most popular political blog in SC, an one that you yourself, Emily, constantly comment in whereas you continue to try and beg people to visit your lame excuse for a SC political blog.
What’s the “Emily” thing (this is my true ignorance of the details, not my usual smartassery).
That’s GrandTango’s real name.
“Emily” is not much of a lady.
Oh, gotcha. I was reading way too much into that trying to figure out the reference… thanks.
And, he/she’s posting as Emily Peterkin with a cartoon picture at just about every local news site in the state shilling for his/her new blog.
I like Julia lots better.
that comment is difficult to understand. Why is this Fits at its most ignorant, other than the suggestion that the Census Bureau is tampering with numbers?
And how does what happened in 2006 demonstrate that this is Fits at its most ignorant? So the Census Bureau under Bush was absolutely clean?
The Bush Administration did not tamper w/ numbers, you Dumb@$$. If they did, the media would have been ALL over it.
In fact: it was the Media claiming catastrophe under Bush…when we were in MUCH, MUCH better shape than now.
And you act like we’re doing great, nationally, because o Obama, but you blame Haley and the GOP for SC. You are so F*#king Stupid (or corrupt) your lies – or double-talk – compound on you.
Haley’s MAIN achievement has been to Reject Obama policies as much as possible. Otherwise, the whole state would be in the shape the Democrat armpits are. You and FITS are totally @$$-Backward. If SC is inferior in any way, it’s because of Dumb@$$#$ like you.
Yeh the same Administration that lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied and lied(I could go on but there’s only so much time to waste on a piece of shit like you)about Iraq and caused the deaths of thousands “did not tamper with numbers.”
Hahahahahahahahaahaha!
Colin Powell is an Obama supporter. He made the case for Iraq. And Hillary and John Kerry, your guys, voted FOR Iraq (with the majority) because the American people believed it was a necessary act. No lying to it.
No,Bush just lied.
They cast their vote on the information they received, all of which was a lie. Same thing goes on in SC by the way. Get over it !
Emily, why is it that you spend more time over here on a blog that you disagree with than on your own blog that you are now begging people to visit?
Haley and Bush, they do go together, along with you. LOOL.
Your hero Bush, and all of the neocons of his administration, were still in power throughout the entirety of 2008, the year you cite above as the beginning of “life support”. Why do you conclude that Obama is responsible for the economic downfall that occurred during Bush’s presidency?
PS: I will never visit your blog because I have been reading your posts on this site for years and I think you are full of shit. Just like the post above, your posts contain glaring misstatements and flagrant omissions. Also, you should have a little self-respect and refrain from constantly promoting your digest blog on this site. I get the sense that most posters on this site think you are full of shit, too.
Bush is Gone Dumb@#$$..along w/ all the jobs, low energy prices, reasonable healthcare, low inflation rate, pride in America, and opportunity that we had when he was president..
So STFU and answer for the mess your Ignorant lord-god Obama has made….trying to exhume Bush’s corpse just leaves more Americans suffering, like we have since you took over our country…
You didnt mention he was WHITE!
Dont you remember? We discussed this at the Klavern last night where we all celebrated White July Fourth!
You ignorant F*#ks have about ridden that one-trick pony to death…
If that is all you got, what the F*#k are you braid dead F*#k$ going to do when Hillary runs???…”I ain’t no way tired”…makes her, and you, look like the F*#king idiots you are……Obama’s got all your mojo for the next 20 years…and his @$$ is about done…LMAO…Sucks to be you…
C
I’m votin for ya for Kleagle. Its Buster and those other guys who aint.Homer says he Aint running thou, did I spect them to support ya in the end
Keep on pimpin’ that shit site you refer to as a blog, Emily. Really pitiful that you can’t notice that only three people have ever left comments. BTW, do you call yourself Emily while in drag? Are you also Sandi?? For a DAD, you sure have gender issues.
Who do you ignorant F*#ks hate…me or Bush??…ooops..Sybil, never mind…LMAO…
Says GrandTango/Emily/BigT…
You LIE !
OH, Sybil, you make me LOL!!
Well now , you know, got zippo. Do you know how much was spent on lawsuits, within the Haley administration ? The total blunders ? Get used to it, you voted her now pay for it. It’s not rocket science. Vote her again and pay even more, stupid is as stupid does. Your brain is the size of a pea.. SC will pay more than I would even think, just wait until the Feds are done. Get ready for more taxes, pay’em and shut up moron.
You are right, Nikki made a shitload of states money.
Restore the South’s agricultural economy – grow marijuana!
Actually hemp farming would be very profitable if allowed by the USDA.
No shit, sherlock! It would be the smartest thing the South has done since choosing the waning gibbous crescent moon symbol as part of their flag.
gibbous crescent? Contradiction in terms. Gibbous is more than half illuminated.
http://fullmoonphases.com/waning-gibbous-moon/
Waning and waxing gibbous moons are both more than 50% illuminated. Waning and waxing crescent moons are less than 50% illuminated.
waning gibbous moon, is defined to occur when the Moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully illuminated by direct sunlight
—-
I stand corrected(twice). It is the waning crescent moon
Dear Machgielis,
You stick to correcting my English. I’ll handle the math and Geometry.
Your nemesis,
BT aka (Alexander Alekhine)
Ouch. That’s harsh!
[Bitchslaps eawe and Thumper*]
Not the moon.
A gorget.
*Metaphorically : )
+10 for knowing that the crescent shaped thingy is actually a gorget. The gorget is a vestigial piece of armor that by the Revolutionary War had become a sort of mark of rank. The gorget was worn on the caps of soldiers in the First and Second South Carolina Infantry regiments during the war. The gorget was inscribed “Liberty” or “Ultima Ratio”
Well, yes kinda. Originally.
http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20070711/PC1602/307119965
No kinda, there are surviving examples of the flag, contemporary historians reported on the cap badge and Moultrie himself mentions it in his memoirs – Moultrie would later become governor.
Not even remotely resembles a gorget.
The shape has been modified over time. It’s location and direction has changed with no real authorization from the gubamint.
The Legislature appointed a joint committee to devise a flag. Rep. Barnwell Rhett Jr., “father of the state flag,” said, “it shall be blue with a white palmetto tree and white crescent in the upper corner.” Lots of objections fell upon him. People called for a green palmetto tree; others wanted royal purple instead of blue. After the committee agreed to eliminate a white medallion and change the gold palmetto to white, the houses approved Rhett’s design 49 to 32.
That April, after capturing Fort Sumter, the new flag shared honors with the Confederate flag.
“The waning gibbous moon phase occurs first, followed by the last quarter moon when half of the Moon’s disc is illuminated. Next is the waning crescent moon, which wanes until the illumination is completely gone; a new moon.”
From your link.
I passed three levels of Calculus with Analytical Geometry and Differential Equations. Never passed all the English.
“advanced engineering mathematics”… what the fuck is that? A math course at Midlands Tech for an Associates degree in some engineering technology degree, otherwise known as Engineering Helper Degree.
I once saw him posting on the Maxwell Equations in the original (and almost undecipherable) curl notation. Anyone who knows what that is, far less what it represents, has indeed achieved in advanced engineering mathematics. I doubt anyone at a tech college (or you for that matter) understand these. They certainly don’t need too, not after Heaviside.
wow….you dropped Heaviside into the convo….sometimes your posts amaze me. Too bad they are infrequent.
Indeed!
Most of rural SC has been dirt poor since 1865, how is this news to anyone?
The sad thing to me is the Nikki Haley and other “R”‘s like her have no problem giving away BILLIONS in in welfare/handouts to Boeing and diaper plants, but accepting money form the Feds to expand healthcare for the poor is forbidden.
When will the simpletons that lap up Haley’s rhetoric ever awaken to the truth that she should be judged on what she has done, not what she has said?
I am not sure who I will be voting for this November, but it damn sure won’t be Haley.
but accepting money form the Feds… is forbidden.
——–
Mississippi has no such compunction, but they’re still dirt poor
And with that arrogant ignorance is a deep-rooted fear of anything remotely intellectual.
Protesting federal assistance is simply a knee-jerk reaction on the part of people still attempting to fight the Civil War. What they don’t understand is that the rest of the country has moved on and does not care about individuals living in the past.
That is unless Haley is begging for federal funds to cover her cabinet agnecy shortfalls…

Colonel, Did you build this float?

No but I wish I’d of helped with this one…http://www.moonbattery.com/karneval_float.jpg
Better try to persuade Jeb to run. Otherwise, the bark will be a lot worse than the bite.
That sounds good to me. A third Bush shows the futile effort of a dying party. Or try a Rommel, Christie, or any of the other freaks you want. Why not go with Haley, her track record is the best SC has ever had ? Someone named Hitler would receive 100% of the republican vote, try that ! I loved the outhouse photo, they should of faced the Obama the other way, had him open the door, and watch the republican clowns come out, one by one !!!
ooops…I am drunk. Sorry. I bet Obama has a big dick. Would love to suck it. I loved to suck dick in the Marines.
Hitler is Obama. Obama is Hitler. FACT!! I love being a queer!!! I am free!!!
Being from Mississippi, I can attest to the fact that Mississippi is not what the numbers make it out to be. Much of the “government money” is in the form of military bases and retirees, as well as shipbuilding like Engall’s Shipyard. The biggest difference between Mississippi and SC is that down there, crooked politicians get prosecuted. And convicted. Oh, and Mississippi didn’t get all that Katrina money like Louisiana did. Interestingly, BOTH states are “right to work”, and both states’ residents are dramatically underpaid compared to most other states.
Both have open ( any registered voter can vote in any ) primary.
Haley Barbour used his HUD Katrina money to get the casinos back up and running ASAP after the storm.
At least Barbour was able to get something done. Nagin just embezzled as much as he could while accomplishing nothing.
While accepting money to improve healthcare for the poor in this state will not cure all that ails us, it would be a start.
Seriously, other than her desire to whip up the passions of her base, can you give me a coherent argument as to why Haley rejected the federal funds? Keep in mind, her buddy Chris Christie took the funds for NJ.
Because she is a Republican.Republicans have a viscerally hostile reaction to persons who cant afford healthcare getting it.Its who they are.
“Seriously, other than her desire to whip up the passions of her base,
can you give me a coherent argument as to why Haley rejected the federal
funds?”
If you are serious, then consider the forced expansion of Medicaid and the lack of long term commitment towards funding it(after 3 years) once the rolls are swamped….
That all assumes the balance sheets of the Fed don’t explode in the mean time….I mean seriously..the ongoing deficit before these costs is already at ‘ludicrous speed’, so these is going to take it up a notch(as if that’s possible).
So on one hand, I understand your point….on the other hand…it seems that if you take the money for three years, swell your rolls and then the bottom falls out you’ve actually made the situation worse.
That’s a coherent argument, even if you don’t agree.
First, the feds pick up 100% at first then 90% thereafter SC only has to chip in 10% to get the federal funds after 3 years. Since SC taxpayers are going to continue to pay federal taxes regardless, the 90/10 ration seems pretty attractive.
I would imagine it is made even more attractive since SC taxpayers are going to pick up the tab for these folks one way or another. Seriously, if they end up using the ER as their doctor we are going to pay, even if you don’t agree.
I agree that the Federal balance sheet will likely swell and taxes will be raised. However, taxes will be raised on everyone, SC won’t be able to opt out. So our tax monies will go to the states that expand and we will be left to pay the additional taxes AND pay for the healthcare for the poor.
I don’t get it ?
Horseshit. If Haley has done anything right it is in regards to Obamacare and Medicaid. An expansion of Medicaid would bankrupt SC.
Just like Obama has changed the ACA 40 times the dems will pull the plug on the fed money after the 2016 elections if in power.
we are paying for it regardless, we are just not getting the fed $$ other states are getting, nor are we helping as many people. States like NJ where Haley’s buddy Chris Christie accepting the Medicaid expansion $$$.
http://www.wjbf.com/story/23911588/medicaid-to-cost-467-million-more-in-sc-next-year
Can I suck your dick?
SC is bankrupt stupid one, why do you think your taxes are going up ? Haley cost SC millions dumbass !!
Your entire assumption is based on the presumption that the Fed can keep the balance sheet intact…no amount of raising taxes will allow for that….period.
If that is true then why did Haley’s buddy Chris Christie, the Republican Gov of NJ take the money for his state. He seems to be well thought of in conservative circles.
I have no idea, but if that is the substance of your argument, it’s severely lacking.
“I have no idea…”
Of course you don’t, because you are not even willing to accept the possibility that Haley rejected the money for political reasons rather than rational ones.
Again, you are going to pay for healthcare for these folks one way or another. Either they are going to be covered by Medicaid with the feds picking up most of the tab (with our tax dollars) or you can pay higher state fees and taxes when these folks simply use the ER as their source of medical care.
EITHER WAY YOUR TAXES ARE GOING UP…wake up and smell the hypocrisy…it has “R” written all over it.
“because you are not even willing to accept the possibility that Haley rejected the money for political reasons rather than rational ones.”
Where did I say that? Maybe she is, but the bottom line is the Federal balance sheet doesn’t support it, and if you enlarge the Medicaid recepient base and the Feds don’t pay their bill you are stuck with a massive problem.
It’s you that making it a partisan issue, I haven’t once brought up “R” or “D”, I’m debating the merits of doing it.
And the larger point is the base is going to get expanded in the majority of states…AND everyone, including taxpayers in SC is going to pay for it. We are going to pay for it whether we expand in SC or not.. Oh, and as I have mentioned several times, we (SC taxpayers) are going to pay for the healthcare for the poor whether they are covered by Medicaid or not.
So the choice is actually quite simple, take the Medicaid expansion money form the feds and cover the poor (thus letting the taxpayers from all 50 states share the burden), or refuse it and pay SC’s share of the nationwide medicaid expansion AND pay higher fees and taxes in-state to cover the poor.
Your budget argument is valid, however this IS going to happen whether your agree or not. If you believe there is ANY will on either side (R or D) to repeal Obamacare you have simply not been paying attention. Sure the Republicans are going to bitch and posture, but do you believe that businesses and the hospital / medical lobby want it repealed? Of course not and they and other special interests will make sure it remains the law of the land.
Uh yeah, because idiotic rednecks don’t exist above the mason-dixon… thanks for the history living, you rotten wooded mill village living, tacky NFL jersey wearing, inbred from Allentown.
http://tinyurl.com/op2sty5
Republicans are your friend.
I take it you voted for her ” Transparent movement ” last election ?
No, I did not. I did not vote for her in the primary nor in the general election.
With ya Bro, I could see a snake as you did. Thank god for that, vote anyone other than her or Katrina.
Paul I got a small “snake” so I can spot BIG snakes!!!
Paul, your post is very on point. Idiots like the Colonel prove that. Silly metaphors and down grading of humans will be their downfall. I wish I would be old enough to see all people like Tango/Colonel gone from the planet ! Trust god, and your heart, my friend.
‘traitor’ tommy Ervin and his old lady apparently got lots of money.
They have given THOUSANDS to the dems and Ervin loaned his campaign to elect Sheheen, around a HALF MILLION DOLLARS.
Why don’t those two fucking clowns STFU , get some help and help the poor.? They both look like they have been “Embalmed”. :-)
Who cares, Just get rid of Haley !!!
Why? Just because she is ‘brown’ .That really is what bothers Ervin , Sheheen and the ‘good ole boys’ trying to destroy her , isn’t it?
If she was white, in my opinion , Ervin and the old lady would probably invite her to their church and make her a partner in the law firm even though she is not an attorney. :-)
and Sandi earns her $1 from the Haley campaign for today.
In my opinion We should get rid of her because she is a totally incompetent idiot. How may of her hand picked “rock star” cabinet heads have resigned in disgrace? How much has the DOR hack cost us, how much will it continue to cost us? How many lawsuits has she lost that the taxpayers have to foot the bill for?
Because she shitted on EVERYONE in SC, including you, moron !
I doesn’t matter. She’ll have the magical “R” beside her name on the ballot and win reelection. All the sheep say “baaa.”
Ignorant clichés, like you, ARE the evidence of ignorance in this state. Thank God, most are not as easily led as you.
Look in the mirror Sandi !
GrandTango you got some big balls!!! Bigger than mine. In fact I ain’t really THAT liberal. Just say so cause I am a homosexual transvestite that loves anal sex with cows.I love you and wish I was as smart as you. I hate being on food stamps and having a yard sale everyday.
“SOUTH CAROLINA: DIRT POOR”
And the band played on . . . .
At times a person must make a decision to come in out of the rain.
After we take their food stamps from them, we can refuse to expand Medicaid. That will certainly help. Not!
Well as long as you have have a selfserving Governor like Haley in office and Teabaggers in the house and senate, the standard of living will never rise. Look at our crumbling roads for instance, you have Haley saying hey I have a plan but I want tell you what it is unless you vote my sorry ass back in office. Which only means she will use federal dollars meant for the poor and disabled vets and state employees to fund it. When the state has enough lawsuits over crumbling roadways causing wrecks that result in fatalities they will react and fix the roads. No company is coming here unless they can bring their employees get corporate welfare and higher SC employees at minimum wage say a tire company for example. Wake up people vote Haley and the rest of these idiots out this fall.
Spot on sir!!!!
Haley’s plan is to give an Indian tribe the go-ahead for a casino in Myrtle Beach. It only requires her signing off on it. Does not have to be a tribe from South Carolina, and likely will not be. She knows that many among her base will balk at that, so she’s kicking the can down the road on revealing it.
I believe you, the first plan with Rommel didn’t go too well. Plan ‘ B ” will be interesting, since SC voters are stupid !
Buz the liar said it! Deo Vindice BELIEVES it!!! Oh MY!!
So what do you think is Haley’s secret plan for funding roads that can’t be revealed until after she’s safely elected? A state-wide pot brownie bake sale?
A tribe from anywhere in the US can have a casino anywhere in SC if the governor signs off on it. If a tribe is not involved, it would require a change in the constitution first to allow for it to be put to a referendum. Facts. Check them out for yourself. All the buzz on this did not come out of nowhere.
Totally fabricated like EVERYTHING else you create in your bizarre and weird world of conspiracy theories and allegations.
This one is no different than your lies about the MBACC and the campaign donations as well as the false allegation. you apparently made about a driving incident and the mayor of MB a few years ago.
Just plain fuckin lies from you , 24/7.
We should agree on 1 thing for sure. Any Nikki Haley plan or action is for Nikki’s benefit.
Always.
I was far from being the originator of ANYTHING said about the MBACC and campaign donations. Most of it came from a respected Republican political consultant with far more integrity than most, and from a deservedly award-winning investigative reporter. Save the bullshit about the verdict in the Kelley suit. It is under appeal and will be overturned at the federal level. None of it came from me, and nobody but you thinks it did, or claims it did. I merely talked about them openly, while most people were afraid to do so.
It remains to be seen whether or not there will be any action on all of that. It will have to happen in the next month or not happen at all. If it does not happen, it’s not because nothing was corrupt about any of it, but because such corruption is actually technically legal in this hopelessly fucked-up state.
As for questions about John’s accident (I never made any allegations about it at all, I only asked questions), I posted all that only after getting about a dozen messages on it from different people, and reading a transcription of a scanner report about it.
Give it up, Bob. Nobody gives a shit about anything that any of your sock-puppets have to say.
Give it up, Bob Hall. Nobody gives a shit about anything that you, your drinking buddies, or any of your sock-puppets have to say.
“Save the bullshit about the verdict in the Kelley suit. It is under appeal and will be overturned at the federal level.”
LMAO!!! 600 GRAND TSN and Wren owe Kelley. That “bullshit” SNOB , TSN apparently allowed you to own and operate , in my opinion , cost em that civil judgement in Horry County.
I ain’t got no doubt you will FUCK FITS as well cause in my opinion that is just what you do- try and FUCK EVERYBODY!!
The SNOB had nothing at all to do with the Kelley bullshit lawsuit. In reality, you and your drunk-ass friends trying to dominate that blog was the reason it got switched to Facebook commenting. And under that mode of commenting y’all could no longer dominate through all you sock-puppet IDs. Most of them that you tried to transition to FB have been discovered and deleted. I remain in good standing with TSN, and unlike your love-hate butt-buddy TD, I don’t get my posted deleted for being a sociopath and borderline psychopath.
Damn BOz. Good to know you are working so closely with the editors at tsn? Maybe they can get you involved in the next lawsuit?
The guy is an idiot. My guess the reason The Sun News let him back on its online site after being banned numerous times is that they are afraid of him and and he pats em on the back after they get sued for publishing apparently defaming allegations. Just my opinion.
Well, it looks like your drunken butt-buddy Tom Davis fucked HIMSELF, hillbilly.
And it’s for damn sure I didn’t make this one up.

wow :-(
Is Thomas Gordon Davis a “public figure” ? Is he running for a political office? Why would you post such on FITS? Why would you do this to another human being UNLESS you are NOT human? Posted his damn picture!!
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Who is Thomas Gordon Davis?
Why would you do this?
Who is the ‘hillbilly’? Who is Freeland ?
Amusing.
This is all a matter of public record.
Looks like you drunken sociopath butt-buddy has fucked HIMSELF, hillbilly:
With the obama economy it is the same anywhere in the country you go !!!!!!!!
And maybe we never attacked Iraq and Afghanistan, I know a lot of servicemen that differ.
Glad to see FITS has seen the error of his ways and is ready to embrace the Democrats.
I agree, after a genration of republican rule it is apparent their ideology is bankrupt. Only a fool would continue down the path they and the tea party types have carried us down.
Unfortunately I fear the ignorant racist knuckle dragging crowd will have to see it get a lot worse before they to see the light. On the plus side we get to watch the rednecks too dumb or racist to be ready for change suffer for their stupidity.
Nebraska has crashed and burned so badly under con-servative, tax cutter on the rich and member of The Family/The Fellowship/C Street Sam Brownback that he is running even with his Democrat challenger in a Red as blood state…and still can’t admit trickle down is a joke.
NJ under Christie is in almost the same fix. He caught a break because the MSM loves it some bi-partisan, moderate Republicans.
When one party has one economic solution for every kind of situation – cutting taxes on the rich – sooner or later they end up in deep doo-doo.
Is Brownback not in Kansas anymore?
Yo! But we can spend $100 million on the Hunley submarine.
South Carolinians are so stupid they prefer living in the past instead of the present.
… eating moldy bread, drinking spoiled milk, re-electing crooked legislators.
Now how can you say bumpkin ?
South Carolina is also one of the 3 most corrupt states in the nation. It is in the Democrats best interest to keep “them” dumb, so that they votes can be rented as needed. Jean Toal, Vinny Sheheen, Bobby Harrell, Stevie Benjamin, E. W. Cromartie, Jim Clyburn……..And do not tell me Harrell, Leatherman, McConnell and Wes Hayes are Republicans. They are not now, nor have they ever been.
Harrell, Leatherman,McConnell, and Wes Hayes are Republicans.
They are now and have been and will continue to be.
Hell throw Nikki and Lindsay in too!
An interesting facet of modern day Republicans is their obsession ,played out here by Fits, a conservative libertarian Republican , and his various hangers on ,to read out of the Republican Party those they disagree with.
Fits goes so far as to “claim” he isnt even a Republican when he plainly is.
There have been internal political battles within political parties for years, yet this fairly recent phenomenon of referring to any Republican that another Republican doesnt agree with as a “RINO” borders on the ludicrous.
Indeed, based on the election results, it would seem that many of these “RINOs” so heartily denounced by Fits and others have a much better claim on the title,”Republican” than those doing the denouncing.
The ignorance in South Carolina and in this room at times is much worse than being poor.
Been here long ?
Will, this report is wrong. I just read, in the State newspaper, that Hugh Leatherman has been focused on education for 30 years and had been very successful.
How can we be so poor with Leatherman’ s self-selfproclaimed success?
Until Haley is out of house and done milking the state it will remain poor.
Yeah cause things were booming right up until she took over.
Damning with faint praise?
Let’s talk about birth control
The Supreme Court ruled that most private companies can decline to cover their employees’ contraception for religious reasons. This verdict is wildly controversial as a piece of legal reasoning—but its scientific logic is wanting, as well. The contraceptive drugs and devices at issue in the case, after all, do not cause abortion, as Hobby Lobby Stores, the company at the center of the case, claimed. So Hobby Lobby didn’t just have religious objections to those drugs; it had false religious objections.
Justice Samuel Alito, writing for the court’s conservative 5-4 majority, didn’t even care whether the entire basis for Hobby Lobby’s beliefs was true.
This decision isn’t about birth control, it’s about abortion.
Scalia himself said in 2011’s ruling in Brown v. Plata, a lawsuit over California’s overcrowded prisons
…the idea that the three District Judges in this case relied solely on the credibility of the testifying expert witnesses is fanciful. Of course they were relying largely on their own beliefs about penology and recidivism. And of course different district judges, of different policy views, would have “found” that rehabilitation would not work and that releasing prisoners would increase the crime rate. I am not saying that the District Judges rendered their factual findings in bad faith. I am saying that it is impossible for judges to make “factual findings” without inserting their own policy judgments, when the factual findings are policy judgments.
Don’t worry. There will still be 1.5 million abortions this year.
A life begins at CONCEPTION unless you are a soulless creature that worships the devil and evil.
Why would someone murder their own child or support legislation to do such unless they were a depraved human being?
You appear to be an expert on the above. Please explain?

Not according to the constitution – and its interpretation by the Supreme court.
There are actually some doctors grounded in science who will tell you that pregnancy begins with implantation.
some doctors grounded in science
——-
um, if you mean *medical* science, that would be all of them.
You have more faith in your doctor than I’ve seen in some of mine.
You know there is huge resistance to evidence based medicine in the medical business?
I was taking you at your word – “doctors grounded in science,” and extending that to “doctors grounded in medical science.” It would seem that would exclude those with resistance to evidence based medicine, since science does not resist evidence, but relies solely upon it.

This is not about abortion. All the100s of restrictions bubbling up through the Red states since 2010 are about abortion. They are giving this court majority to chip away – which is the way they do things – and chip away until it’s gone and they hope most people aren’t paying attention.
Chipping away is their MO. They want to keep their constant overruling of precedent as low key as possible until the big ruling on whatever issue comes down.
Hobby Lobby and the ‘clarification’ make clear this is about 5 Catholic, some Opus Dei, justices imposing their Catholic dogma on all American women and the wives and daughters of American men who innocently and ignorantly went to work for businesses who believe that the “religious freedoms and rights” of the owner/massas trump the “religious freedoms and rights” of individual employees – libertarians SHOULD be up in arms.
Maybe the South was right to reject Kennedy because he was a Catholic – if that bigotry had been allowed to flower and bear fruit, we might not have any Catholics in the Supreme Court at all….
If the South’s influence would have been stronger, no Catholics, no Jews, no Latinos, no blacks…. which Justices would remain?
They are acting like politicians instead of Justices, and I don’t think they appreciate how vile their constituents are.
John F. Kennedy Sept. 1960
…I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute–where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote–where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference–and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him.
I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish–where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source–where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials–and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all.

John Kennedy was not a member of a right wing Catholic cult that may be more crazy than the Taliban. And, it doesn’t bother me to oppose them as much as I oppose the Taliban.

Kennedy wasn’t, but Scalia is. And all but Sotomayor think similarly. If we had Buddhist statues instead of the Presidents on Mount Rushmore, they’d have them destroyed.

We certainly need some mainstream Protestants, and I would love to see an agnostic or two.
We certainly need some mainstream Protestants, and I would love to see an agnostic or two.
———
A 2007 Barna group poll found that about 20 million people say they are atheist, have no religious faith, or are agnostic, with 5 million of that number claiming to be atheists.
A 2008 Gallup survey reported that religion is not an important part of daily life for 34% of Americans
That should be support enough for 1/3 * 9 = 3 agnostic Justices.
We don’t even have 1.
For all the high minded platitudes about the Hobby Lobby case all it boiled down to do we force a company to violate its owners beliefs or do we take money from insurance companies? It had nothing to do with women’s rights, corporate personhood, wars on religion, wars on women or anything else that is being hyped up in the mainstream media to generate votes for or keep the base engaged on both sides of the political aisle. The below is a direct quote from the opinion.
The employees of these religious nonprofit
corporations still have access to insurance coverage
without cost sharing for all FDA-approved contraceptives; and according to HHS, this system imposes no net
economic burden on the insurance companies that are
required to provide or secure the coverage.
Although HHS has made this system available to religious
nonprofits that have religious objections to the contraceptive
mandate, HHS has provided no reason why the
same system cannot be made available when the owners of
for-profit corporations have similar religious objections.
We therefore conclude that this system constitutes an
alternative that achieves all of the Government’s aims
while providing greater respect for religious liberty. And
under RFRA, that conclusion means that enforcement of
the HHS contraceptive mandate against the objecting
parties in these cases is unlawful.
For all the high minded platitudes about the Hobby Lobby case all it boiled down to do we force a company to violate its owners beliefs or do we force the employees to pretend those beliefs are true, even though they contradict legal reality, as part of our employment agreement?
Except they are still getting coverage. The insurance companies have to eat the difference under the ACA agreements. Read the opinion, all it was about is does Hobby Lobby pay or it’s insurance carriers. No employee lost any benefits or had to go anywhere.
When voters realize that people like Haley are the cause of most of the problems in this state nothing will change. People like Haley have forgotten they were elected to be public servants not how rich can I get in office. I say if you like not havinh enough money to pay your bills put her back in office another 4 years…
1. DATA BREACH
2. GEORGIA PORT DEAL
3. DSS DEATHS
4. USED STATE ASSETS TO CAMPAIGN FOR MONEY
5. ETC….
As a Sheheen Campaign Strategy, I’d say: Loser, Loser, Loser, Loser and…….Loser…..
No one really cares about most of those, or she’s removed enough, the others cannot be used against Haley. Sorry…try again in 2018.
That could be your ” PEW ” pole you must be accessing. Your stupid mental illness of ideas you have grown to love.
One more thing. I said Grand Tango has a mental illness. Ever seen Psycho or One Who Flew Over The cukoo Nest?
Me and Boz starred in em. Boz was Norman and I was Nurse Ratchett.
Hey FITS-Liberals: The liberals are bickering -playing the blame game – among themselves, about the penny tax in Lexington County. Must be worried it’s going to fail…

State and County employees in the retirement system listen up. A friend of mine who works at the P EBA board said Haley was heard saying she wants to find a way to cut retirees benefits next year to save money. I advise you to vote her ass out before its to late this November. Good luck.
PEBA is paying exorbitant rates for pharmaceuticals and certain medical providers (that give large donations) and the PEBA Board seems uninterested in the high cost. The Health plan itself is failing many of us and the cost is rising. The Investment Commission underperforms and that underperformance translates into hight debt and higher rates for the retirees. Haley is not the problem. Sheehan is mostly silent and I have yet to hear from the other guy.
All cost, in one way or the other, are passed along to we retirees. Management, or the lack of it, is the problem.
One of the many problems with big government is that is creates a large voting bloc of self-serving bureaucrats who threaten any elected official who seeks to cut off the gravy train.
Yeh cut retirees but millions for Boeing, the biggest corporate welfare case in the country.
Thats called Republican “fiscal conservatism.”
REELECT NIKKI!
It’s called corporate whores for personal gain, it’s not new by the way.
I am a WHORE and love cock!! Call me Pee Wee, Mr.”sexy” swampland!!! Call me at BR5-49h-hehw .”Obama “phone.
You don’t need to worry. In SC, white state employees and school teachers seem to vote R, voting against their own interests, their clients’ and the taxpayer’s and the level of services they deserve, just like all R voters.
God, please help us keep our raciest political system in place, thanks, people of SC.

Raciest is a superlative form of racy. adjective [rac·i·er, rac·i·est.]
1. slightly improper or indelicate; suggestive; risqué.
2. vigorous; lively; spirited.
3. sprightly; piquant; pungent: a racy literary style.
You’re right. Examples: Benjamin, Sanford, Ravenel and lies about Haley.
The main point of this story is that we just keep voting GOP to run this state. Make sure not to change anything at all.
As long as we have intelligent design being taught, abortion banned, christian prayer in public schools, spanking by teachers, no environmental controls, lots and lots and lots of guns for everyone, and tons of corruption….things have to get better.
Keep voting GOP S.C., we’ve come this far…we might as well keep going eh?
You say that like it’s a bad thing.
There is really only one thing voters need to figure out to know what to do. This state has been going backwards since Republicans took over both houses. The average South Carolinian is worse off today than he was in 1980. Will they figure that out? Not anytime soon. SCs electorate is too obsessed with race to figure out they are being played by Republicans working for wealthy corporations. Its easy to blame poor minorities than it is to figure out what is really going on.
The next push will be to get rid of public education. After all, why do you need anyone educated to do anything other than the job you want them to perform at the least cost possible. We can do that with mill schools. If we can get things back to where they were in 1900 Republicans may finally be happy.

State legislators aren’t suffering similar income losses.
House Speaker Bobby Harrell, a millionaire, is still flying his private plane, driving his BMW, and tooling around in his expensive motorboat.
Some expenses of which are subsidized by PAC money.
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
But dey be happy Massa.
