Rather than bitch and moan about how bad things have gotten in America (and trust us, they’ve gotten bad), we decided to offer up some ideas on improving the situation … while opening up our comment section as a “suggestion box.”

Well Will, this post has been up for more than five hours and no comments! I guess that’s what’s wrong with ‘Merica, they’ve run out of ideas. Hell, I thought at least Grand Tango would have jumped in if only to plug his “blog”.
I find Republicans and Tea Party types never have a suggestion. Only complaints. Tea Partiers do not even understand their own complaints, and Republican politicians have no desire to expose their very unpopular agenda, designed to benefit the wealthy and corporations at the expense of the middle class. They hide behind phrases like entitlement reform rather than saying we want to kill Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; and tax reform, rather than saying we want to shift more of the tax burden to the middle class and reduce taxes on the wealthy Its a way of lying without being accused of lying. Much like the bush tax cuts. They were really only for the rich, but they pretended they were for everyone.
What a pile of nonsense. Anyone who actually believes this type of silliness just shows how close minded and narrow their sources of information are.
There are aspects of both parties’ agendas that are more and less popular with the population at large. I would submit, however, that because most Democratic proposals to address the problems facing this country boil down to “more taxes, more government,” a very unpopular position, that it is the Democrats who have to resort more frequently to hiding what they are doing and demonizing anyone who dares to disagree with their approach (as you do in this post). Democrats have been very effective at winning this branding war, but that does not make their ideas any more popular. Exhibit A – Obamacare.
And you are either delusional or a liar about killing Social Security. What Republican really wants to “kill” Social Security? To even begin to justify that type of nonsense you have to define down as murder any reform of which you do not approve. The reality is that the only thing that will kill Social Security and other entitlements is doing nothing to fix the looming spending crisis with our entitlement programs. Those programs are bankrupting the government on their current paths. Look at the spending projections. The Obama administration has acknowledged the problem. To quote Obama’s previous Treasury Secretary to Paul Ryan: ” “We’re not coming before you to say we have a definitive solution to that long-term problem. What we do know is we don’t like yours.” Tell me again who has all the ideas in this country?
And the Bush tax cuts were incredibly progressive that you ridiculously claim were “only for the rich.” The richest 1% paid a higher proportion of all taxes as of 2005 than they had before Bush took office. Of course when you are a millionaire, a 1% tax cut would be a “bigger” benefit in absolute dollars than a 15% tax cut would be for a person making $50,000 BECAUSE THE RICH PAY MORE IN TAXES. Bush made the tax code much more progressive than most Democratic presidents would dream of doing, and you still idiotically claim they were “just for the rich.”
Both parties are in bed with the rich, and allow too much crony capitalism to go on. Special interests give money to buy influence that allows them to write the rules to protect themselves from competition. The lists of biggest political donors show that it is the democrats that dominate the contribution game, by the way. But neither party is innocent in that regard. At least for Republicans, this corporatism is a betrayal of conservative principles because free markets require competition, and the markets are distorted by monopolies, cartels, and government favoritism. For a progressive like Obama, however, corporatism is his governing economic philosophy. As this HuffPo writer summed up Obama, he is the “most fully realized CONSENSUS CORPORATIST CANDIDATE of the last decade.” So if you really want to decry the influence of the rich on government, you are directing your anger at the wrong party.
I can’t tell you how much I hate the term ” ‘merica, or ‘murica “, It’s suddenly the hipster-redneck term of the moment. It’s “America” dumbasses.
When you see the already tiresome term ‘Murica / ‘Merica used, you can pretty much discount whatever follows as a bunch of Marxist drivel from earring wearing hipster faggots.
