LINDSEY GRAHAM’S WORST NIGHTMARE IS TAKING SHAPE …
Readers of this website have long known about former S.C. Treasurer Thomas Ravenel’s plans to challenge incumbent “Republican” Lindsey Graham in his bid for a third six-year term in the United States Senate.
Back in April, Ravenel made it clear he would throw his hat in the ring as an independent candidate for this seat in the event Graham won the “Republican” nomination.
Graham did win – and now a pair of mainstream media outlets are confirming Ravenel is taking the steps necessary to appear on the ballot in November. Meanwhile Graham’s allies are reportedly taking steps of their own to try and keep Ravenel off of the ballot.
According to The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier , Ravenel is “collecting signatures to get on the November ballot for U.S. Senate against Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham.”
“We fully expect to get them,” Ravenel said of the signatures, 10,000 of which must be submitted to the S.C. Election Commission no later than July 15.
FITS has heard of several pro-Ravenel petition efforts – including one undertaken recently by a team of GOP activists in the conservative Upstate region of South Carolina. Other petitions are circulating closer to Ravenel’s Lowcountry home.
Meanwhile The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper published a story discussing Ravenel’s prospective candidacy – both his signature-gathering efforts as well as his foreign policy bona fides.
Ravenel takes the foreign policy issue – perceived as Graham’s strong suit – straight to the two-term incumbent in the story, challenging him for his support of “re-invading” Iraq.
“We need to have a defense strategy based on restraint, a strategy that doesn’t have us mobilizing upon every flare-up that happens across the globe,” he told The State.
Neither Graham nor any of his spokesmen responded to Ravenel’s criticism.
Ravenel told FITS this week he is preparing a more direct challenge to Graham on the issue – but declined to discuss details.
“He’s going to have to respond,” Ravenel said.

“T-Rav” – star of Bravo’s Southern Charm reality show – faces an uphill climb in his political comeback, although he is expected to draw votes from libertarian-leaning Republicans as well as independent voters frustrated with the failure of the two-party system.
Sources close to Graham’s campaign tell FITS they doubt Ravenel will qualify for the ballot but that if he does, “hell awaits him.” Specifically, one source close to a pro-Graham advocacy group says ads are already in the works that will brand Ravenel as a ladder-climbing politician who disgraced his former office and cannot be trusted.
“If by some miracle he qualifies he’ll be brutalized,” the source said. “Write this down: The Libertarian candidate in this race is going to get more votes than Thomas Ravenel.”
Wow … that’s a bold prediction seeing as FITS has already been provided with top lines from a pair of polls showing Ravenel already drawing double-digit support in a general election matchup against Graham and Democratic nominee Brad Hutto.

Considering that the drug prosecution against T-Rav was a statewide bi-partisan event, I fully expect a huge amount of money to be dumped over and above what Lindsey has already. Having seen how wretchedly the education candidates were sacrificed in the process of so many Democrats voting for Graham, I can no longer support him, or those who supported him – and that’s a boatload of people I know. I’m certainly not going to vote for Obamacare, which would be a vote for a Democrat. The TEA partiers have proven themselves to be incapable of useful organization or at least unwilling to organize. That leaves Nobody or Thomas. I will be waiting and observing to see if the cable gambit for name recognition worked, and if it didn’t piss off too many women, as it did my sweet wife from Union.

Polls this early are totally irrelevant (although I doubt he’s really breaking 10 in a legit poll of any size not conducted in Spartanburg County trailer parks). Could all of the angry, shrill, loud, bitter folks screaming about Graham band together and vote for Ravenel? Possibly, but it still wouldn’t amount to a hill of beans once we’re out in the general election (and they didn’t do well at all when they really had a shot in a low-turnout primary). One more bitch and then I’ll shut up- Ravenel has “foreign policy bona fides?” As in, some kind of foreign policy legitimacy or credentials? He’s been in the foreign service? Any service? Maybe a graduate degree in political science or international relations? Peace Corps, even? Not that I’ve ever heard. This is getting bizarre. Maybe he’ll mysteriously be unable to get the 10,000 signatures and that’ll be his escape hatch from the absolute ass-whipping he surely knows he’ll take in November.
But even that inevitable ass-whipping will boost the ratings for his show, so it won’t be a total loss after all.

The son rarely showed up for any classes and when he did…he was so hungover that he slept through the class, but somehow he always managed to make the dean’s list. Having a prominent, wealthy daddy sure does make a difference.

Having a connected (and wealthy) parent helps tremendously in this regard as well. He’s the one running for office, so he’s the one who gets evaluated in regard to “accomplishments” and intellectual ability.

If you’d check, I don’t think us stupid Charlestonians re-elected Miss Lindsey, or gave him the votes to win the Primary. As much as I love some of the upstate, there is a much stronger Lindsey support group there than there is here.

If the GOP/conservative vote is fractured by Graham/TRav and the libertarian, looking OK for Brad Hutto, I’d say. But the results of the primary do not, to me, indicate the GOP is fractured. they would rather have Lindsay around to bitch about than anyone else.
