GOVERNOR CHALLENGED BY FISCAL CONSERVATIVES …

Fiscal conservatives are urging Gov. Nikki Haley to veto a State Senate bill that would permit more than a dozen county governments to raise taxes on their citizens by more than $1.7 billion.

S.C. Sen. Kevin Bryant (R-Anderson) filibustered the authorizing legislation for the tax hikes last week – but his colleagues in the fiscally liberal chamber eventually mustered the votes necessary to sit him down.  Sadly, there was just too much special interest money (most of it from companies that will benefit from the tax hike) pushing the measure for a filibuster to succeed.

As a result the legislation is now sitting on the desk of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley – who is expected to either sign it into law or (more likely) permit it to become law without her signature.  The latter option is basically the same thing as the former, except cowardly.

Tea Party activists are stepping up their opposition to the legislation – demanding Haley veto it prior to it becoming law.

“Our only hope is for Governor Haley to veto this bill,” Talbert Black of the Palmetto Liberty political action committee (PAC) wrote in an email to his supporters. “Call her office today and demand that she veto what would likely be the largest tax increase for South Carolina in decades.”

Wait … call her office ?

Doesn’t Black know Haley doesn’t like that?

Seriously, though … we know Haley is afraid to use her veto pen to cut government, but this is an opportunity for her to restore a little bit of the credibility she’s lost with fiscal conservatives.

Will she take it? Or will she  – as she’s done in the past – watch the pitch go by?

For the past four years Haley has shown practically zero allegiance to South Carolina taxpayers – which is especially disappointing because she was generally a consistent vote on behalf of taxpayers during her six years in the S.C. General Assembly.

What happened to Haley?  We don’t know … but it’s about time she rediscovered her roots.

UPDATE: Well so much for that … Haley has signed the tax hike option into law.

Kevin Bryant voted for Leatherman’s budget! He did vote against the house version but the House budget was better from a a conservative’s standpoint, But he was all for the BLOATED RINO BUGHET WRITTEN BY HUGH LEATHERMAN! Bryant has been promised a better committee next year so he has backed the old Democrat/rino Leatherman all the way!

The great Talbot Black said that? Wow. Very impressive I am sure his supporters are flooding the lines. His endorsement of Lee Bright shows how influential he is. Do you just look for guys living in their moms basement for quotes?

Talbert Black can’t stand me … and I wouldn’t recognize him if he fell on my lap. I quoted him because his organization is weighing in credibly on the issue at hand.

I think you should have stopped at “weighing in.”

FITS is very vague on WHAT the tax is. Anytime FITS will not specifically show us what he is talking about, and we’re supposed to oppose it just because he, Sanford and Black told us to…RED FLAGS are shooting up…

It is money to combat abortion?
Is it funding (for guns) for ID checking in voter precincts w/ a history of cheating?
Is it a fee on food stamp recipients who are caught selling their food stamps because they get an abundance?
Is it a fee on RINOs and Liberal-Tarians for lying about what they promise, then doing something else?
Is it a tax for denying Global Warming?

If you weren’t borderline retarded, you’d have recognized home rule was the argument you should have led with in this case – the notion that municipalities and counties should be free to determine on their own what level of local taxation should apply to them. Then you could have attacked me for being a statist. Alas, you are a moron.

He’s just borderline?

FITS just set off a chain of orgasm among the suppressed LT&L (Liberal-Tarian and Liberal) Community…that registered 10.5 on the Richter Scale.

To give me the ‘What-For’ is the life of the circle-jerk. You also placed yourself in good standing, assuaging the sting of the few honest reports you offer on the total failure of Obama.

FITS, again, is Hero, Dragon-BigT-killer, for the day.

As for content, you are correct. I missed the reference to county governments. But you are aware that the state legislature has slowly failed on their obligation to return money to local governments. County governments have received less and less funding, ever since the Horrible Obama-conomy began to manifest.

It’s VERY easy to bash the local-boy governments that are charged to provide services, yet revenues have been decreased.

In true Liberal-Tarain (Sanford-esque) fashion, you complain, but offer no answer, or leadership, regarding responsibility or solution.

They all made asses of themselves @ Amelia Island and the ‘chickens are comin home to roost’. Just ask Cantor.

“RedState’s Erick Erickson reported that Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy will also attend, but an aide to McCarthy did not respond to Breitbart News’ request for comment or confirmation of his attendance. Erickson also reported that 25 other House Republicans are scheduled to attend, too, but a list of members is not publicly available.”

I vote for the tax for denying Global Warming. Glad to know we have that option.

The only reason there’s any real hope of this shit is that it’s an election year. If it weren’t you’d be wasting your breath. (You probably still are wasting it, though.)

Haley (Obama’s twin separated at birth) is NOT a CONSERVATIVE Republican!
She is a closet liberal on fiscal issues!!!!

What she can do? you should blame the RHINOS in both houses ( who are the majority), they are the one who submitted the bill.

I get the idea that Nikki is just not very bright when it comes to numbers. She claims to have an accounting degree, then again she also claims she had a Christian wedding.http://www.demotix.com/news/500075/relatives-nikki-haley-amritsar

Why not link to the bill. Why not link to a news story (even The Nerve is better than nothing) in order to give some context?

I thought the vote was to override her veto. How can she veto it again? If it is overridden, it is law. She does not have a say!

“RAIDED!!!!”, you mean how they walked in the door and spent an hour or so carefully pulling items they wanted to take and in a manner as to not upset the daily activity in the rest of the department? Dipshits like you think that they went in and started tipping over file cabinets and desks.

I went over to your “blog”, I see you’re still waiting for your first response to any of your articles. How long do you think you’ll go before you get tired of talking to yourself?

I thought it was a mantra of the Republican Party (which controls all levers of power in this state) that government worked best at the lowest levels — closest to the People. You know, not the oppressive feds or the corrupt state government, but counties and cities. Now I see demands that Haley veto a bill to permit taxation by local governments. Shouldn’t the argument be with the county politicians who want to raise taxes? Why do they get off the hook? Most of them in SC are Republicans too. Could this be just another little taste of GOP hypocrisy?

When there aren’t enough people to keep revenue neutral, spending cannot increase without an increase in taxation. To keep this from happening, on a permanent basis, the people who voted for this tax increase must be thrown out of office. The problem is that there are so many, many people in our state, whose highest goal is finding the next goat to marry. **Biblical Metaphor Alert**
