LIBERAL “FORMER” DEMOCRAT NOW REIGNS SUPREME IN THE SO-CALLED “MOST REPUBLICAN STATE IN AMERICA”
Like a totalitarian dictator greedily gobbling up new titles and powers, S.C. Sen. Hugh Leatherman (RINO-Florence) solidified his already vice-like grip over South Carolina’s state government this week by adding the presidency of the State Senate to his resume.
Just as we predicted …
By a 42-2 vote, the “Republican-controlled” South Carolina Senate elected Leatherman – a former Democrat – to be its new leader.
The vote came moments after S.C. Sen. Yancey McGill (D-Williamsburg) – who held the powerful post for all of fifteen minutes – “ascended” to become lieutenant governor of South Carolina in the wake of the resignation of Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell from that office.
In addition to occupying the highest-ranking leadership position in the S.C. General Assembly, Leatherman is also chairman of the powerful Senate finance committee, a member of the state’s budget board and its debt-authorizing bond review board.
“Leatherman was already in a class above the others,” one S.C. State House observer told FITS. “Now he’s creating a new class of power like no one has ever seen in state government.”
The corrupt politician‘s stranglehold on power at the state level was not accomplished without objection, though.
Prior to the vote, S.C. Sen. Shane Massey – a part-time reformer from Aiken, S.C. – took to the podium to call Leatherman’s ascension into question.
“I don’t think what’s happened is decent. It is indecent,” Massey said.
He added that Leatherman effectively bribed his way into his new office by promising goodies to lawmakers via a “budget done in secret.”
“We all know he’s got the checkbook and isn’t afraid to use it,” Massey said.
Additionally, Massey said Leatherman helped orchestrate the hiring of McConnell at the College of Charleston – which is likely to become the recipient of tens of millions of state tax dollars in its bid to become South Carolina’s fourth government-funded “research university.”
That’s true … Leatherman was intimately involved in McConnell’s controversial hiring – as this website exclusively reported last December. He has also been instrumental in pushing additional funding for the college through the state budget.
Massey rebuked this dirty dealing … comparing Leatherman to a gangster.
“This was a well-orchestrated coup, a hit,” he said, adding that the “University of Charleston bill is what got the ball rolling.”
“This body has sanctioned the coup. We are accessories to the hit,” Massey added.
Unfortunately, he declined to nominate anyone – or himself – as an alternative.
Massey and S.C. Sen. Tom Davis – a free market fiscal conservative from Beaufort, S.C. – were the only lawmakers to vote against Leatherman, who ran unopposed.
After the vote, “Republican” majority leader Harvey Peeler made a motion to insert Massey’s remarks into the Senate Journal. That motion was objected to by liberal “Republican” Ray Cleary, though.

A Cockroach for All Seasons

McConnell orchestrated this like Arturo Toscannini.
Like the Sheriff said in Blazing Saddles, citizens are “basically morons.”
What’s all this “former” Democrat stuff Sic Willie. Thanks to the Republican Reconstruction of the latter part of the 19th century, ALL white SC politicians were Democrats. It wasn’t until 1964 that “Democrats” like Strom Thurmond became Republicans.
Isn’t it interesting that Ronald Reagan, like Strom Thurmond, is never referred to by Sic Willie and his ilk as a “former Democrat.”
And, former head of the Screen Actors Guild, a union.
why ?
Reagan, like Thurmond, built the modern day Republican Party, and joined before the Conservative Revolution took shape in 1994. Leatherman and other SC Senate members joined the Republican Party well after the Revolution and joined only to maintain power and to hold committee chairmanships. None of those former Democrat Senators share the conservative philosophy and hold no Republican ideals.
Fuck for the last 20 years of his life ol’ Stormy’s biggest concern was whether or not he was going to shit his pants if he farted.
Very good mention, friend. The ” White Herd ” switched at that point to deny anything to a party that was into black advancement within SC. I call that kinda raciest.
The crooks are now totally in charge. Nikki Haley did not put up much of fight, but that is not much of a surprise.
Hmm…….we wonder how informed black students at South Carolina State University can see what is happening via College of Charleston that South Carolina State can use in the next BUDGET …”negotiation”..!?
Doesn’t the State House have a basement? Is there any hope that someone can actually pull off a Guy Fawkes?
Well, Massey, welcome to a career on the Agriculture Committee.
Add Congressman to his political career when Duncan decides not to run
He is already on it as well as Corrections and Penology.
“S.C. Sen. Tom Davis – a free market fiscal conservative from Beaufort, S.C.” You left out that he voted for Jean Toal.
Hey when Fis gets his narrative going ,no silly thing like “facts” are going to get in the way!
“Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”
Well, YES, on that particular day….
Here’s your clip, with Fits starring as Bluto:

Germans? Do I need to explain the irony to sic will.
I had the privilege of watching Senator Massey’s speech objecting to this coup, and I am impressed with his bravery and conviction. He had the courage to speak the truth in the face of certain retribution. The members of the so-called William Wallace Caucus need to return their little sword pins to the Cracker Jack boxes where they found them.
Absolutely. Only Tom Davis has the balls to stand with him. Good for Massey and Davis.
Leatherman had almost a billion dollars “extra” to spend and he bought these clowns on the cheap. Kevin Bryant got a promise of a choice subcommittee assignment and he has been Leatherman’s butt boy ever since. Others cost a bit more, but in the end he got them all.
Bryant went Columbia a couple of years ago. He met a fine little philly, and lost his way. A young thing on the side generally make hypocrites talk more about Jesus, and Bryant seems to talk a whole lot these days!
The William Wallace Caucus is a fraud. They talk and talk and talk, but get nothing done. They are always there with their hand out, raising money, doing business, etc. Leatherman can count on them when he NEEDS them, otherwise he just lets them talk and talk and talk
I have known my Senator for 40 years, and will be voting against him in two year when he runs for reelection. I believe in democracy, not dictators.
Leatherman, Harrell, Cromer, Peeler(and his brother) Rankin,Martin, Magill, and Haley and a host of others need to go if this State is to move forward in a positive direction!! Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts ABSOLUTELY !!!!!
Good now that he has everything in place, maybe he’ll drop dead.
GREAT, then we would end up with the swamp slime Harvey Peeler. This State is totally screwed!
What do these elevations do to the retirement benefits of Leatherman and McGill?
Although, I’m sure they’re already receiving benefits, is there any way this can increase the amount?
Does Leatherman’s new position get a supplement? Yancey will be getting a salary…
Does anyone know what Senator did not vote. 44 voted we have 46 senators minus McGill who is now Lt Gov that makes 45. Someone did not vote.
Could it be Leatherman?
The SC Republicans have, or are about too:
Elect a Democrat Lt. Governor
Repudiate its core principles and give one man more power than any modern democracy should allow,
About to elect Molly Spearman, a pro-abortion, pro-common core, big government former Democrat and present RINO as Superintendent of Education,
Passed the largest budget in state history and did it without conference committee or proper transparency and debate.
About to re-elect a “conservative” Governor that only vetoes $18 million of a $24 billion budget.
The Republican Party, my Republican Party, in South Carolina has betrayed us.
“Your” Republican Party has been doing this kind of stuff for YEARS!And will continue to SUCKA!Anyway what you bellyaching about stooge? In November you’ll be there casting that straight ticket just like you always have?
No straight ticket voter here. Though no doubt you are.
I am not voting for Haley or Eckstrom.
for the politicaly attendant, is there any chance that the stop and start nature of very recent developments at the state capitol is tied to the indictments and potential for additional indictments? Are the players, including the gubna, trying to prepare for the worst, etc., etc. .
I love the Tom Davis reference. Reminds me of the infamous Dan Rather sign-off – “courage”.
Both, of course, are douches.
Tom, your voting against Leatherman when you knew he was going to win is not going to cut it. You voted for Toal and we now know why. Come clean Tom – even if if is just to Sic. You were bought.
Great – different- commentary:
Leatherman zings Sanford and the Liberal-tarians one more time.
The Sanford wing of the GOP is not happy.

Haley, the William Wallace Caucus and the rest of the GOP allowed one man to become the effective ruler of a modern state. Not since the “old days” has this happen. It brings sham on us all.
The worst insult is that the turncoats were bought off so cheaply. Of course, they were selling our rights and tax dollars, so the cost of the sale was pretty cheap to the sellers.
Pretty damn impressive if I say so myself considering sometimes you wonder if the S.O.B remembers his name half the time.
I bet they had to cut a good 18 inches off the bottom of that purple robe for ole Hugh not to trip over the hem.
Actually, I bet they had to go get a new one from the boy’s department.
it reminds me of the plot of star wars when the emperor overthrows the galactic senate. He even looks like emperor palpatine.
So this article has no point. Leatherman does not profit off of anything in Charleston or Columbia(which is by far the most corrupt part of the state by the way). His main interest should be the Florence and Pee Dee region which he has done little for since we remain the poorest part of the state which also has by far the worst roads and transportation system in the state.
Please make a note of this …. Leatherman will live out the rest of his years behind bars.
I’m ashamed to have Ray Cleary as my Senator!
Paul Thurmond, my senator, supported this corrupt bastard. Thurmond also got his picture in the local paper with Haley and a poster from http://www.stateintegrity.org showing South Carolina being one of the most corrupt states in the country.
Thurmond is both hypocritical and corrupt himself. I look forward to voting against him in the next election. And that this vote will hang around his neck like an albatross.
